December Daily 2010 | Day Nineteen

Welcome to Day Nineteen!

Today's story includes a little of the calm and a little of the merry chaos of the season (and of my everyday life).

Page one includes a quote from my Christmas Quotes Vol. 1 package and "calm" from my Painted Christmas word set. I stitched around the edge before adhering the photo to the cardstock back of day 18. On the weekends we all take a little quiet time when Anna has her afternoon nap. I'm currently reading (and definitely into) Fall of Giants by Ken Follett.

Photo taken with a timer.

Page two is the merry chaos.

I should probably say "mostly merry chaos."

Nothing quite like The Wiggles to cause some merriment for these two.

I repeated the red stitching and Painted Christmas word. Journaling was done with my typewriter.

JOURNALING : It is the rhythm of most days. Part calm and part crazy and merry. Quiet and so very loud. I actually love both in my heart of hearts, but it is those quiet moments that I find myself wishing for most often. And then I remind myself not to wish away the glorious loud of now.

Oh Ali, you captured my thoughts exactly on this one. The quiet and the noise, I love both but quiet is my favorite. The older the kids are getting the louder they get, like you said though I try not to wish it away because it is going by way too fast. This layout is wonderful and they are so cute in their pj's and being merry together. The painted words and your stitiching are becoming a favorite of mine to see.

The kids start their vaction today so my house will be louder then normal now for the next two weeks, and I will breath and try to relax and not countdown to the days they go back to school and leave me to my quiet days and routine. Will bring a little Merry into our everyday instead.

I love how frequently Simon writes notes and letters to you and your husband. Not only are they perfect for scrapbooking and giving you more tangible memories to hold on to in hearing Simon's voice, but the handwritten word is infrequent these days. I love that he asks for things in writing notes and he frequently says "thank you." I would love to know what ways you directly or indirectly encourage this behavior in him. Kuddos on raising such a thankful child.

Thank you again for your blog. It's such an inspiration in more ways that one (scrapbooking).

This may be my favorite spread yet! I love the simplicity of two pictures and the story that goes with it.

Hi Ali, I love the everyday moments in your pages today. The links are for day eighteen. I don't know if you have to reset them or if you meant for this.

Love sewing on my pages. I do mostly (almost all) vintage or male pages. It is a dimension that fits both. Love today's pages and your journaling on the photo. I want to do more of than.

Just curious, I noticed in this post you mentioned the Hambly Clearly Heavy Overlay. Did you attach the KI numbers to it? And if so, what kind of adhesive do you use? I have tried so many various ones and not found results that I am completely thrilled with yet.

PS. Btw, I am loving your december daily. While I haven't assembled anything yet. I am photographing and blogging daily the story of the day and loving it! This is my first year actually doing your version and I'm amazed that I am keeping up (with the photo and blog part) and enjoying it immensely. Thank you!

Thank you very much. I had thought about trying that but I used spray for a differnt product and it was so sticky... it worked with the felt and wood I was using but I wasn't sure if it would work well with paper. Anyway, thank you I really appreciate it!

Hi Kim - I used a spray adhesive on the back of the numbers to stick them to the Hambly overlay.

I get it. I get it.

Yesterday my husband got back from his bicycle trip in Florida, and as much as I love my freedom and quiet when he's gone, I really start to miss him and his presence by day 5. The yin and the yang of life.

Oh, how I'm longing for some CALM! But it's not going to happen for a few days yet...

I just love how you stitched around the word art on your photos. So beautiful.

Your home looks so calming..very cozy. May I ask about your ottoman? I love it, looks large enough for more than two to put feet up or eat on...would you buy this style again? Do you recommend it? thanks so much for your insight!!!!

Wonderful pages! Coincidently I also did pages today in which I used your "Marry" and "calm" painted words. Love the context in which you contrasted the two.

"...and Mom and Dad can hardly wait for school to start again..."

Trying to remind myself too not to get stuck in that place in my head, that joyful noise is good noise and a big part of a happy childhood. The house will be all too quiet years from now, when the children have grown and gone. Love your pages. :)

For those of you with small, noisy children remember the chaos and the noise and treasure it as it is so quickly replaced by a quiet, calm empty nest! With both our adult daughters and one husband with us this year, for the first time in five years, I relishing the noise and crowded rooms again. The season seems so much more festive than the last few. Of course, I would not be honest if I didn't confess to escaping for a few moments quiet in my craft roon occasionally :) But the chatter of a family gathered is truly the magical soundtrack of our lives and I am loving having it back again.

Wondering if you have any tricks for sewing on your pages. I have the same Brother machine as you and every time I attempt to sew on my pages, I get marks from the presser foot on my photos. Does this ever happen to anyone else or is it just my machine? It's driving me nuts! Love the look of the stitching but not the marks! Thanks!

I enjoyed the calm today while the big two were at Grandma's but didn't enjoy the extra merry of no sleep at Grandma's! Didn't get any pics, wonder how I can incorporate today into my book...
