More to come...

Dc_1

Just a quick post to say hi from Virginia. Today is the last day of the Get Croppin event - one more class this morning and then heading home this evening.

It has been awhile since I laughed so much - the four of us (Margie, Danelle, and Donna) are seriously having a fun time together.

And oh yea, it is COLD here.

Much more to come on this whole adventure tonight or tomorrow.

In the mean time, check out this post about autism from Michelle Ward.

Thank you, Ali, for the link to Michelle's blog entry about autism. While I'm not dealing with autism, I am learning that even things such as ADD require the parent to be advocate. I am not saying that my son deserves special treatment, but as a parent, I have to learn how best to help Aaron learn. I want Aaron to be responsible and independent, and for me that means that I have to let him fail sometimes so that he understands that there are consequences to not knowing how his learning disability affects him. Your posts about Simon and your links to others who deal with similar situations are really helping me get through this difficult academic year. Thank you again.

It's great to hear that you guys are having such a fun time. Say hi to Danelle for me (my teacher from CKU San Jose).
You do look pretty cold in that picture. I know you will be in California in a couple of weeks. Usually, we would have beautiful weather for you, but it has been a tad bit nippy around here lately. Hopefully, it will warm up soon.

    Ali-
It was so great to meet you yesterday at Get Croppin. As I told the guy at registration, "I feel like I just saw Elvis!" Class was wonderful - hope you return to the East Coast soon!

Thanks for the link to Michelle's post about Autism. It made me think about my son (Tourette's and ADHD) and the way I need to start approaching this and being an advocate for him. Your posts are always inspiring, in one way or another. TFS!

Thanks for the link to Michelle Ward's blog. My cousin has shared with me some of her hurdles with her daughter's autism (her story has many similarities with Michelle's). Thanks for the link and for sharing your personal stories as well. I am trying to educate myself so I can be a better support system for my cousin.
As a group we can make a difference.

    Hi Ali,
It was such a pleasure meeting you this weekend. It's something I can cross off my life list. You are such an inspiration and I thank you for sharing your time, talents, and stories with all of us.
I'm the one who recommended the Signing Time videos. (www.signingtime.com) You're local library may have some for you to check out before you decide to purchase. I think they are up to 12 volumes now. #3, Everyday Signs, is what got us hooked. But Simon may like the newer ones as they kids in the videos age and they may be more his age. Just a thought. My son has thoroughly enjoyed them. Not only are they engaging and fun...music and lots of kids in them, good colors, and just good energy.
I think you would like Rachel, and her philosophy. Ok, enough about that...it's not like I work for her or anything... it's just been such a great find for us.
    All the best, Jenny
