an end + a beginning + my word

In between working on projects, still battling this ear infection/cold, getting ready for tonight's festivities, drinking coffee, etc, I cleared off the boards above my computer. I do this every so often and today seemed like a pretty good day to invite something new. I am also changing things up by adding some clipboards on the other wall next to my desk for project organization (inspired by Lotta Jansdotter's studio tour).

A fresh start. A new beginning.

I took everything down, put the things worth keeping in an inspiration notebook, and am now ready for new images, new words, new things to motivate + inspire + help me grow in 2008.

For me, in 2008, I am looking forward to getting to the heart of the matter - whatever that is. Clearing away excesses. Focusing on the most important things and not worrying about the rest. Taking a deep breath and beginning one foot in front of the other.

My word for 2008: vitality.

Vitality is the state of being strong and active; energy. Physically. Mentally. Spiritually. Creatively.

Here's to moving forward. To fullness of life. To you and yours.

If you have decided on a word for the year I would love to read what it is - feel free to share in the comments.

Also: Loved this post over at Photojojo on Photo Resolutions. And I think this is the year I will do a 365 project.

Hi Ali, I love your style and passion for scrapbooking. It seems like it comes natural. The difficulty I have is getting into my scrapbook 'space' physically and mentally. My basement is unfinished, being dark and dreary, so it's hard to get down there to start. Also, my mind is busy with good intentions but no ideas.
My word for the year is RESPECT - respect for self, others, and the earth.

I am SO ready for a fresh start, a semi-blank canvas, in my home. Your picture of your office has me drooling... no kidding.
    My word for 2008: FLOURISH
...to grow luxuriantly, or thrive in growth... to be in one's prime.

    My word is BALANCE
I give too much of me to work, so initially I thought this would be about balance between work and home. But there’s really so much more.
    It’s about balance…
between pleasing others and pleasing myself
between dreaming of doing things and doing them
between must do’s and want to’s
between people time and alone time
between what is truly important and what just seems that way
    between perfect and good enough
less “I’m going to” and more “I did it”
    less polluting and more conserving
less problem focus and more solution focus
less TV and more … anything else
    less schedule and more spontaneity
    less things and more experiences
    Balance.
Thanks so much for all your inspiration and for getting me thinking about this. Best wishes for 2008!

Very inspiring - thank you! Since I tend to be super focused and almost OCD about somethings I like the word 'DETACHMENT'. Sometimes you can be so tied into the outcome that you push it away or miss the journey so I usually tell myself 'Buddhist art of detachment'.

A 365 is really fun. I am up to day 123 of a 365 of self portraits. Not easy but stretching me in all kinds of ways. I am putting them all in a slide-in photo album (with a brief description) so I can look back on my year when I am done. No fancy stuff - too much like work :)

Thanks for being REAL Ali - I think we'd be friends if we lived near each other :) I'd definitely bring you coffee!
My word for this year is Purge. It's time. I started last year with "Green" and going organic and entering a basic cleansing phase, but this year, I'm going to really continue it with:
    Purge the excess "stuff".
    Purge the negative self talk.
    Purge the yelling.
    Purge the excess body weight.
    Purge people who aren't healthy.
    Purge bad habits.
    Purge limiting yourself.
Purge the urge to spread yourself too thin.
Purge the urge to...etc., etc. and so forth :)
    Have a great 2008!

Hey Ali, I'm doing a photo-a-day-project this year, with no theme or anything, just 366 photos at the end of the year to bind.
Concerning the word of the year, last year I had focus. This year I'm really undecided but I think GIVE is a good one. Give of myself in my art, give time, love and attention to my family, give good gifts to people around me.

    Dear Ali,
I have chosen the word SIMPLIFY. All my stuff is getting in the way of really being in the moment. I am starting to really get the Idea that less is more. I want to pass this along to my kids to want what you have not what you dont. Thanks for all your inspiration. You seem very real and thats nice.

Had to think about it for a few days and my word for 2008 is TIME.
    The use of...
    Cherish...
    Goes by so fast...
    Make the most of it...
    etc.
Yes, that works for me right now. This time in my life.

My word for 2008 is CHANGE. I don't handle change well at all. I like my life simple and my routines staying the same. =) Well, in 3 short months (YIKES!) we'll welcome our 2nd child into the world and that's a pretty big change. LOL I'm trying to prepare myself for the change and embrace whatever craziness comes my way!

My word for the year is SPARKLE. I choose this word because it makes me think of words like bright, shiny, happy, fun, and pizzazz. In addition, when you see something sparkle you usually have to stop and refocus or look harder to see it clearly. When you put those two threads of thought together you get exactly what I need to do this year. I need to regroup and refocus and stop being so stressed all the time so that I can bring the fun, pizzazz, and sparkle back into my life this year.

My word is actually two- "in time". I am always feeling stressed to do more and get more accomplished and it's hard to enjoy the moment due to that. So, in 2008, I will tell myself that in time, I will get the work done; in time, I will take care of the laundry; in time, I will miss the kids yelling; in time, I will get to where I am going. I even made a visual reminder (frame + 7G stickers + embellishments)to sit out and remind me of my new way of looking at life. Thanks for the inspiration.

Hi Ali, Happy New Year... I chose my Word for this year... It's TRUE. I need to be true to myself because I tend to please others and I loose myself in the process. It's time for me to stand up and say what I feel at all times... Thanks for so much inspiration... Here's to an awesome year (as I toast with a glass of wine)
