an end + a beginning + my word

In between working on projects, still battling this ear infection/cold, getting ready for tonight's festivities, drinking coffee, etc, I cleared off the boards above my computer. I do this every so often and today seemed like a pretty good day to invite something new. I am also changing things up by adding some clipboards on the other wall next to my desk for project organization (inspired by Lotta Jansdotter's studio tour).

A fresh start. A new beginning.

I took everything down, put the things worth keeping in an inspiration notebook, and am now ready for new images, new words, new things to motivate + inspire + help me grow in 2008.

For me, in 2008, I am looking forward to getting to the heart of the matter - whatever that is. Clearing away excesses. Focusing on the most important things and not worrying about the rest. Taking a deep breath and beginning one foot in front of the other.

My word for 2008: vitality.

Vitality is the state of being strong and active; energy. Physically. Mentally. Spiritually. Creatively.

Here's to moving forward. To fullness of life. To you and yours.

If you have decided on a word for the year I would love to read what it is - feel free to share in the comments.

Also: Loved this post over at Photojojo on Photo Resolutions. And I think this is the year I will do a 365 project.

I love this idea..!! My word for the year is "hope". I have a daughter that will graduate this year and has gone thru some tough times during her high school years. So my wish for her is "hope" for her future. I also wish for "hope" for my family and friends that they have a happy, healthty new year. I also wish this for you Ali, "hope" for all things that you want to achieve in the year 2008!

    My word is "Believe."
"Believe in the Magic of Your Dreams," has always been a theme for me with my daughters. They are 3.5 and 5 now.
I've been planning to put it above their beds for months now. I just can't commit to how. I've also been thinking about putting it above my scrap table, but I need to repaint that room first.

    RESILIENT
    re·sil·ient
    1. Marked by the ability to recover readily, as from misfortune.
    2. Capable of returning to an original shape or position, as after having been compressed
I've had to learn to do this alot in the last year and I will continue to do this in the year ahead.
Some things are small and some things are bigger and I need to let the small things go and continue to be resilient when the big things do happen.

Finally came to me! I thought about my children and the relationship I want with them this year. Also, my nana just passing away and a very important lesson she taught me so long ago when I was younger.
So my word is - Patience.
As a teacher I felt like I had tons of patience with my students.
This past year, I feel a little of that has been missing with my five year old son who has been a challenge. And just being sleep deprived with a new baby has me on a short fuse some days.
So I am looking for patience with myself and others!

I'm reusing my word from last year. Organize. You can read about it on my blog here: http://jlandthensome.blogspot.com/2007/12/one-little-word.html

My word for the year is PRESENT as in be present. I tend to not 'live in the moment' but always jump to the next thing, which in turn at times can cause me to 'tune out' my son, which saddens me deeply, so I will now focus on the here and now....be present in all that I do!

My word for 2008 is STRONG. I want to work at being stronger physically and emotionally. I want to stay strong in my desire to be a better mom, wife and friend. I will have a stronger marriage and a stronger relationship with my son. I will be strong when I am tempted not to.
Thank you so much for the inspiration.

I think my word for this year will be BECOME. There are so many things that I want to become: More organized, a better mom, a better teacher, a better wife, a better adult, a more disciplined person, a smaller (in weight) person, a more creative person,...the list just keeps on going. So this year I have chosen BECOME. I am going to strive to BECOME all that I have always wanted to be and more. I know I won't succeed at everything but I sure will enjoy challenging my self. I think I might even make a little scrapbook about the journey. I am feeling more creative already!

    Love the journal!
My word would have to be FLOURISH as in to grow. I'm still a teen, well for 15 more days(eek!)and then I turn 20 and I want to grow and learn through many different aspects of life during this time and beyond. I still have a long way to go in life and I think flourishing would really help give me a boost in the path I'm going to take.

As I was thinking about resolutions (http://onlysleepn.wordpress.com/2007/12/31/happy-new-year/) and why I am making just a few, there is one thing that has shown itself as my overwhelming need for this year. And that is my word - Peace.

My word for 2008 is "Create."
Looking back, I feel like I spend more time taking in and taking on than I have putting myself and my work out there. 2008 will be about creating the new . . . friendships, writing and art, family traditions, habits, a better living space . . . and really stretching myself. Perhaps there's room to create a more physically fit me, too.
I read with true wonder the comments where people really found their lives drawn in the direction of their word. I would be absolutely delighted if that happened for me. There's no other way than to give it a try.
    Here's to 2008 and "create."

I have my word! It's OFFER.
As in: Have I made someone an offer they can't (but might still) refuse today?
The writer's reality means no offer, no nuthin'.
So my word for 2008 is OFFER. I know it will serve me well. Thanks for the exercise, Ali.

My word for 2008 is INSPIRED.
I have 6 month old twin boys and they have inspired me to be a better person; to put all of my baggage aside and live for today, not tomorrow or yesterday; to see the cup half-full, not half-empty; to be the best person that I can be, for them and for me.

I hate to have to do this, but my word is going to have to change from complete (which didn't quite give me the warm feeling) to moments! I love the word moments for this year! I feel it. But, I am also keeping my word from last year (BELIVE) because I love that word so so much!
    Thanks, ALI!!!!!

I highly enjoyed the word-focus last year. My word CELEBRATE was perfect for me! I certainly did a lot of that...even during the trying parts of the year, like when we lost dear family members (my granny and my husband's two grandfathers.) Keeping that perspective truly helped see the passing away of our loved ones as a time to celebrate their life as well as the beautiful memories of them that will always live in our hearts.
As far as my focus for the new 2008, I can tell you that it will include APPRECIATION of the everyday little things, ACCEPTANCE of those things we cannot chance and keeping an open mind to the amazing POSSIBILITIES that life has to offer. As you can see, I couldn't pick just one! But who is counting, right? It's my year and that's the fun part of being me. I get to make my own rules. Thanks for the inspiration and the invitation to share of ourselves! :)

I love all the words that have been chosen! It is so cool to think about what everyone will accomplish.
My word this year is "Heart".
The heart is the center of things. Having heart means having courage. Showing your heart means to show caring and love.
This year I will become a grandma. This year I want to open my heart to the possibility of not being alone. This year I want to use my heart to accomplish the things I have meant to do for too long.
