an end + a beginning + my word

In between working on projects, still battling this ear infection/cold, getting ready for tonight's festivities, drinking coffee, etc, I cleared off the boards above my computer. I do this every so often and today seemed like a pretty good day to invite something new. I am also changing things up by adding some clipboards on the other wall next to my desk for project organization (inspired by Lotta Jansdotter's studio tour).

A fresh start. A new beginning.

I took everything down, put the things worth keeping in an inspiration notebook, and am now ready for new images, new words, new things to motivate + inspire + help me grow in 2008.

For me, in 2008, I am looking forward to getting to the heart of the matter - whatever that is. Clearing away excesses. Focusing on the most important things and not worrying about the rest. Taking a deep breath and beginning one foot in front of the other.

My word for 2008: vitality.

Vitality is the state of being strong and active; energy. Physically. Mentally. Spiritually. Creatively.

Here's to moving forward. To fullness of life. To you and yours.

If you have decided on a word for the year I would love to read what it is - feel free to share in the comments.

Also: Loved this post over at Photojojo on Photo Resolutions. And I think this is the year I will do a 365 project.

    My word has got to be SIMPLIFY. I've got too much baggage weighing me down and holding me back from whats ahead of me. 2007 was a big year in that I had to find me feet again after my unexpected divorce. That and now finding myself as a single mom and starting over in a new country has brought a whole heap bagagge that I'm so keen to leave behind me. Its been a little too heavy lately. It's time to SIMPLFY and hopefully I start to move forward again.

    My word for the year is...SIMPLIFY! After getting married a little over a year ago and with me working for a fashion brand, we have accumulated quite a bit of "stuff". My goal is to simplify my life by purging and organizing!!

    My word for 2007 was focus, in 2008 it will be GROWTH. Lots of things happened in 2007 and the past few months have been a true journey.
    Growth in myself, my values and beliefs taking time to "just be", meditate and get back to simply being in the moment.
    Growth in my scrapbooking, trying new things (and not just in scrapbooking!). New ventures, new teams, new opportunities. Pushing myself.
    Growth because I want 2008 to be the year I reclaim my garden and landscape it. I plan to have a little veggie garden and make us a little more self sufficient with our own organic fruits and vegetables.
    Growth because for the last 6 years I've been unable to work due to visa restrictions and now we have our greencard to work in the USA and I am ready! I have no limits now. I am free to do whatever I wish in this land of opportunity, and I'm ready to grow into this new life!
    thanks so much for the prompt!

    My word is deliberate.
    adj.
    Done with or marked by full consciousness of the nature and effects; intentional.
    Arising from or marked by careful consideration: a deliberate decision. Unhurried in action, movement, or manner, as if trying to avoid error: moved at a deliberate pace.
    v.intr.
    To think carefully and often slowly, as about a choice to be made.
    To consult with another or others in a process of reaching a decision.
    v.tr.
    To consider (a matter) carefully and often slowly, as by weighing alternatives.
    Peace, Mary Kate

    My word for 2008 is NOW
    Be here in the present Now. Enjoy what I have Now. Be grateful for Now. And of course do things Now not later - no more procrastinating! Now I'm off to clean off my bulletin board, Now :)

    Hi Ali,
    Hope you are feeling better today. I've just recently started reading your blog and throughly enjoy it!
    I love your idea of choosing a word each year, so, for 2008, I've chosen JOY. There are many things going on in my life right now beyond my influence. However, I can still choose JOY in the midst of it all. I saw a quote once that said "Life is not the way it is supposed to be. The way you react to it is what makes the difference." So, my goal for 2008 is to react JOYOUSLY. Thank you for the inspiration!

    Great word...looking forward to seeing how it works out in your life!
    My word is TODAY. Your today stamp will come in handy this year, I think! I spend so much time planning for the future...classes, travel, details, etc. that I sometimes miss out on today. Also, the tomorrows sometimes seem overwhelming, but I can handle today!

    I have put alot of thought into what I thought my word for 2008 should be, and I have decided that "ENJOY" is it.
    I need to slow down and Enjoy my life, kids, husband, work, art, my day-to-day, my everything.
    There were many other words to choose from, but I think for my Enjoy is the word that all around fits what I want my life to be this coming year.
    Thanks for your inspiration!

    Without reading everyone's chosen words so if I duplicate, it's by accident, I'm picking: vibrance
    Chosen Definition: exciting; stimulating; lively
    Yep. That's me. Or what I strive to be.
    Once again, you speak to me Ali.
    I've once again linked to you on my blog...

    Thank you for sharing this blog entry. I didn't set out to have a special word last year, but a word just kept appearing, and it really did change me, change my outlook on life, and my responses to it. Last year my word was AUTHENTICITY. When I read this blog, my word for this year came to me immediately. I believe that this word is one that God wants to use in my life in many ways this year. The word is PRIORITIZE. It is very easy for me to get caught up in all of the daily things that grab my attention and not intentionally prioritize my life. I look forward to the adventures of 2008.

    like a few others . . my word for 2008 is simplify. we're off to a great start already and it's still 2007. not just to get rid of the physical clutter . . . but the emotional excess, the time stealers, and a whole lot more in order to just be "me" and for our family to be "us".
    you are such an inspiration in so many ways . . .raising a blue moon (my current favorite brew) to you and your family for a wonderful new year.

    My word is opposite of most people's sentiments, but mine is MAINTAIN. Every year the doctors try new meds, new therapies, and I lose months of my life being homebound and fighting a disease that won't get better. I want to spend one year just maintaining instead of experimenting. I want to stay on the same meds and not push so hard and see if I can maintain an even keel and maybe experience more of life as it is rather than missing life while trying to make a better one. MAINTAIN. Simply going out for coffee once in awhile will make me the happiest girl on earth. So, that's my word.

    Ali,
    I have chosen my word for 2008 - it is FOCUS.
    I need to:
    Focus on losing weight and eating healthy;
    Focus on my family - 2 in college and a newly added son-in-law;
    Focus on the simple, everyday things and photographing and scrapbooking them;
    Focus on getting organized and minimizing stuff in my house;
    Focus on getting rid of extra debt.
    I will put this word on my bulletin board in my Scrapbook room. When I see it often, at least I can be reminded that I need to stay focused.
    Thanks for your continued inspiration.

    I had a hard time chosing a word for 2008, but this morning, I found the word: BELIEVE. I started an acrylic mini album, the title being "This I Believe." I'm scrolling through hundreds of photos on my computer to find the ones I want. Some of the categories that I want to focus on are
    1. I believe in God.
    2. I believe in family.
    3. I believe in friendship.
    4. I believe in beauty.
    5. I believe in new beginnings.
    I have some old metalic charms that I rediscovered while cleaning (didn't know I had them!) to use as labels on the tabs of the album. Now, I just have to work out the design for the pages.

    My word is POSITIVE because I really want to focus on the positive in 2008, because last year I had a really bad year, and it was mostly because I always focus on all the negative around me. So here is to a more positive year in 2008.

    Hi Ali..
    Word has it...for me its "PURSUE!" It seemed to fit into all of my endeavors for this next year. I also made a list of my 100 for '08. You can read it on my blog tomorrow..just in time for the NEW YEAR! Some things are practical, others are dreams...but whatever and however I get any of these done or accomplished...I will pursue them.
