One little word.

Vitality

Now that many of you have chosen a word for the year, what will you do to keep it in mind throughout the year? It can be very simple or complex, a craft/scrapbooking project or a simple reminder in your planner or on your bulletin board. Some sort of visual reminder is a great way to add a bit of focus to your word.

Here's a couple ideas for honoring your word this year:

• Go through some magazines looking for your word or themes/phrases/etc that relate to your word. Cut them out and collage them together as a visual reminder. This could grow and expand throughout the year.
• Commission or locate a piece of jewelry that features your word. I am ordering a necklace with "vitality" from Lisa Leonard. Love this as a daily visual reminder.
• Print out a word card (see photo above) and place it where you will see it everyday (a bathroom mirror or refrigerator or bulletin board are all front and center).
• Create a canvas that introduces your word. Dump some paint right on there and go for it.
• Start a journal to document thoughts, feelings, experiences you have with your word over the course of the year. This could be a visual journal or just focus on the words. Your journal could be as simple as a Word document on your computer.
• Expand your interest in words by playing along with the challenges on the one little word blog.

What are the ways you are planning to honor your word in 2008?

My word this year: Dwell. I've done a whole post on it at my blog. I plan to do a canvas with my word sometime this weekend.
Thanks Ali, for being such a great inspiration!

FOCUS. Focus on what's important. Focus on the moment. Focus on those who love you. Focus on living and experiencing as much as possible. Focus on learning. Focus yourself.

I have a word for all time, which is courage. So for 2008 I decided to adopt a phrase that I ran across on Flickr, "Keep Calm and Carry On..." Thanks for sharing your great ideas and your life. I think I'll try to do a canvas with this phrase.

Each year I set up an 8 1/2 x 11 3 ring book, usually American Crafts. I put my word on the spine, decorate the exterior with whatever strikes me and fill it much as you did your December Daily book. This year I have added to the mix with a daily photo. I include journaling and snippets of things I pick up along the way. I think with the addition of the photos it might turn into a 2 volume year. My entires aren't always daily, though the photos will be this year. I also post my word in my studio and think that I will order a bracelet with my word to wear - love that idea. Susan

I'm thinking of the word "relax" Not just because I need to relax physically but because I stress about EVERYTHING! I am a very anxious person and would like to learn to not take things so seriously. Just relax.

My word is Tolerance. I plan to practice this word everyday by avoiding the very things that have destroyed my self worth in the past few months.
Tolerance is a word I shall be looking forward to making my acquaintance with.
    Im liking it a lot.
    Thank you xx

Since this fits in with my plan for a Better Nat...and ties in handily with my blog name...I've chosen "Squash" for my word.
Reason? I happen to have a VERY loud inner-dialogue voice that runs constantly. Call me mental (it's happened before), but lots of times this voice tends to lean towards the negative side of things and screws with my ability to remain positive or to find the good in a situation. I've been working on ignoring that voice in the past few months and it's something that falls on my resolution list for this year too. So, I've decided that 'squash' is appropriate as I'll be working on 'squashing' negative thoughts, negative actions and negative things from my life. www.betternat.blogspot.com

It's beautiful, simple and something that will keep my word in the front of my mind whether I'm in the car, outside, visiting friends or just at home. Thanks for the inspiration.

I've decided my word is POSSBILITY. I was recently inspired by the quote from Emily Dickinson "I dwell in possibility".
I hope to keep a focus on possibility this year instead of feeling leashed by my life's obligations. I hope to take more enjoyment out of my family and just living. Happy New Year!

    Hi Ali,
It is fun to learn what others are doing with their words and projects. I don't have a blog or any other public forum to display my attempts at making art but, I do sometimes play along with what I find others playing at. My word for the year, this year, is kindness. To myself, to others, in thought, deed and action.
Thanks for all your great ideas.
    Kelly

    Hi Ali,
thanks for letting me live my life more in the moment and thinking about myself and not only about the people around me.
I am a perfectionist inside and out, but it drains me and I need to find a balance in my energy level. And not to meddle in everyones business, even with all the best intentions!
Therefore my word for 2008 is definitely:
RELAX: become less active and more calm and happy & making rules or the control of something less severe.
I'm creating different wallpapers with these fabulous photos I've downloaded from realsimple.com. Love them, they really express my feelings connected to my 2008 word!
    Thanks, Marlies

Very cool Tim. A challenge from you each month!
I have been thinking of a word...hummm I think Focus would be the word for me. LOL I am the hyper type and need to focus my energy in just one direction at a time...(Like that would truly happen, but maybe...I can certaintly slow my life down a little.) I am getting some great ideas as to what I can do with this one word...
I look forward to spending time with you each and every month! Ahhh 2008 is going to be a very GOOD year!

I've decided to put my word in my blog as well as in my album I'm going to make in 2008 about Faith. It was funny today as I was out at a LSS someone had done a layout with the word Faithful. I talked to the LSS owner about choosing a word for the year. She liked that a lot.

    Hi Ali -
    I chose HONOR.
I lost my marriage in 2007 and this is perfect timing for me as I open myself back up to life and realize how deeply and openly I want to live.
    You rock. Keep it up.

Wow Ali, you really got me thinking and doing a lot of looking inside to find a word and come to find out I really need this this year. It looks to be a really long work year and I chose breathe to remind me that is all I really have to do to get through anything life brings good and not so good if I just stop to breathe!! I also loved the jewelry and am in the process of ordering a ring as a visual reminder I can keep with me at work...thanks for the push, and thanks for sharing your ideas!! You keep me reaching!
