Sister time. Re-arranging time.

Sisters

Hello September.

This past week I was really lucky to have my sister Jessica come to visit. The best part? She is also going to have a baby in the new year so we are getting to go through this experience together. We spent a few days shopping (I hadn't started collecting anything for this baby yet so it was even more fun) at baby stores in Portland and Eugene before taking her down to my parents house on the coast.

Getting to spend time with Jessica and shopping really made me start getting even more excited about what is to come.

This baby is like starting over in so many ways. Besides being just about seven years removed from being mama to an infant, all the baby stuff we had used with Simon has been passed on or sold in a garage sale back in May (great timing I know). This means that I have a good list of things to acquire over the next few months - working hard to keep it simple and not go overboard. I think baby stuff is just about as crazy as scrapbooking stuff when it comes to options and potential to have too much.

Around here this week one of the big things we are doing (besides Simon going back to school) is starting to move rooms around. Our small house (which we love) requires a bit of adjustment - my office is moving to Chris' office (not a small task at all), his desk/computer is moving to an area off the living room, and the baby will have a room in my current office. I am actually really excited about this change. I am ready to move things around, reorganize, etc - all part of getting ready for baby.

I am dreaming about adding one or two of these to my office space for storage.

I also think I might be getting excited about taking photos again. It's been awhile since I felt in the mood to be capturing stuff. Maybe it's the change in seasons. Maybe it's back to school time. Maybe it's that I finally feel just a tad bit like my regular self and not a monster pregnant grump. I need to go to the photo shop and pick up my lens that was being repaired.

I have added a google custom search box to the left column. This search box only searches this blog, my newsletter archives, Studio A archives (hoping to update soon), and Designer Digitals. I am hoping this will act as a great resource for future reference.

It sounds like you a wonderful weekend! My sister just had a baby two Wednesdays ago, and I have been so careful about buying this time as compared to my first nephew 2 years ago. I bought him so much stuff, I remember he wore the outfits I bought maybe 1 or 2 times each because he had so much. This time I just waited to find out what my sister needed after the fact. It has worked out much better!
It will be nice to have that forced reorganization when you move into the new office. I'm sure it will inspire a lot of creativity! Those red bookshelves are very cool! I think they'll look great in your space!

Babies, scrapbooking and moving furniture! What could be better than those? I've been doing a lot of the last two lately (too old for babies unless they are grandchildren or borrowed). What a wonderful time in your lives. Karen

It sounds like a fun weekend with your sister. Such an exciting time for your family! Smaller homes can be efficient and it sounds like you're going to get the most out of yours with your expanding family.

Search AE tool...very nice. I have been doing alot of searching on your blog this weekend...so nice addition!
I always have fun reorganizing. You find things you haven't used before that may strike a creative nerve and also find ways to repurpose old items. Have fun!

My two children are five years apart and it's so true that it seems like starting over :0)
And this time around with not being a first time mom, I knew exactly what we needed and what we could live without as far as baby gear (can you say no diaper warmers lol)
But a nice thing was with Evan, my oldest being in school all day, I was able to give my daughter Erin the same kind of one on one bonding time I had with her big brother.
And he was so much more independent and able to do things for himself in those crazy early newborn months :0)
    Congratulations!!!

Selfishly thrilled to get to see a new creative space set up:-)
Are you starting to show? Does Simon "get" the news (I imagine so with his baby nephew experience)?
I had just dropped off the last of our baby-stuff to my sister three states away before coming home and finding out we were expecting last August. She mailed back some essentials to me when the time came, like the bjorn carrier and boppy pillow. But in general, it was nice to have a clean slate and keep it simple.
I'm just so happy for your family. Wishing you an energy boot in this trimester!

My sister had a baby 10 days before I did last December. It was wonderful to go through the pregnancies together, and even better to go through this first year with a new little one. Even though we live very far apart (we haven't even met our nephews yet!) I still feel so connected to her by phone and online. Babies are such a wonderful thing to share with your sister!

Sounds like a really nice time of sisters sharing. Your mom is a lucky woman to have you two come visit with these great changes going on.
I shifted rooms with my dh about 2 years and it was a good way of sorting even more and clearing out. I emptied the last box last week and I feel I'm finally getting a handle on what I need and where I need it.

Ali, glad you're feeling excited about nesting and rearranging - love the red bookcases! I looked at these too, but decided they were too big for my space. Thanks too, for the google search; I was just looking for an old post a few weeks ago, and didn't have any luck. I'll check again on the google search! =)

Love the new search function--thank you. I don't know how often I go back through your site looking for stuff from before!
I remember how miserable I was during that first trimester and how the only thing I wanted to do was lay around and watch t.v. Ugh.
Can't wait to see all the exciting rearranging!

I was wondering where you were going to put the baby since you live in a small house. What fun you will have getting it all ready and setting up a new scrap book room. That always makes you want to create new stuff in a new room...Have fun and enjoy the moment !! Please show pictures when your done, would love to see it. Have a GREAT week.
