Three Things : Creative Books (+ a giveaway)

Threethings_books

Three books to inspire, challenge and fill you up creatively this week:

True Vision: Authentic Art Journaling by LK Ludwig : I got to meet LK at Artfest last year and enjoyed her art just about as much as her personality. I ordered this book last night and am looking forward to some new ideas (it's been quite awhile since I picked up my art journal). After looking through the next book on the list (see below) I have some good ideas for backgrounds to try.

Acrylic Revolution by Nancy Reyner : This book is packed full with techniques for working with acrylic paint. I have been looking through it the last couple of evenings, dreaming about potentially doing some painting, and being really inspired to get out my paints and try something new and different (new + different for me).

Taking Flight: Inspiration And Techniques To Give Your Creative Spirit Wings by Kelly Rae Roberts : I was lucky to see an advanced copy of this book on my recent girl's weekend and I can't wait to get my own. There are a bunch of mixed media how-to's as well as a lot of words (of which you know I am a fan - I like to know the thoughts behind the actions whenever possible). According to Kelly Rae, "this book isn't a traditional how-to book, but rather a book that dives deeper into telling our stories about how we came into the creative life - as a way to inspire others to stretch their wings and see what is possible for their own creativity."

Here's one of the Amazon reviews on this book:

Kelly Rae Roberts is an amazingly talented artist and apparently
equally gifted as a writer as well. This book is a journey from her
soul right into yours. It's part journal, part sitting around getting
deep with your girlfriends, part interviews with other talented artists
and part art instruction. So very different from other art books, even
from the same publisher. It goes above and beyond and straight into
your heart & head, making you think about your own creativity.

And until you find your creative spirit, the how-to make art
sections are very clearly thought out and well written. I know that I
will be able duplicate even the pieces that had materials I've never
used before.

This book is a treasure that I know I will refer to again and again.

I have two copies of Taking Flight to give away this week. To be entered into the drawing leave a comment below and let me know about your favorite creative technique is these days (it can be scrapbooking, mixed media, anything). Comments will be closed tomorrow (Wednesday) at 5pm Pacific and the winners announced shortly after.

Scrapbooking for me. I lose myself in it. It keeps me grounded. I love the entire process. SOmetimes its just cardstock, pictures, and words. Other times the pages are filled with embelishments. I love how I can do whatever I want. I love how our stories are on paper. I love how my family dives into my books. :)

Right now my favorite technique is sewing. It's a new thing for me but at the moment I'm enjoying combining different fabrics and other stuff into bags.

I love all things paper, well, except bills.
I haven't been doing much scrapping lately, I've been more focused on making cards. My cards are made mostly from scraps so it's also been a time for cleaning out and reorganizing. Thanks for sharing what inspires you.

I've been working at expanding my horizons outside of scrapbooking, my first love, and am finding so many wonderful things in the world of art!

My favourite 'technique', recently, seems to be experimenting with different ways of journalling on my LOs - painting titles/hand-writing in different fonts for titles/doodling text boxes for containing the journalling etc etc. It's the journalling that matters to me on my LOs (and will matter to people who look at them in the future) so I've really been spending time, concentrating, on coming up with different ways of presenting that.

I do mostly card making. My favorite thing these days are embossing folders that create wonderful texture. Texture is good.

Thank you for the offering the books! I am really bad and finishing things and usually am better when I go to a crop. During the past week I finished several projects at home - mini-books started in classes or kits that I had purchased. I finished the week with a class taught by Michelle Van Etten.

Right now I'm a very traditional scrapbooker and I rely mostly on patterned paper for creative impact. I just got a new computer yesterday and I can't wait to get into all of the digital goodies that are out there. :)

The Techniques that I am into right now are playing with paint and Heidi Swapp masks. Also layering items like transparencies, Magic Mesh and stamped images.

I took a break from hand-stitching on my art quilted pieces, and am playing with a new art journal. LOVE trying different techniques on each spread.....and when the altered book is finished, it will become my journal for creative thoughts.

I haven't scrapbooked in months, 10 to be exact, when my 3rd child was born. My favorite medium is free time! This book could get me inspired to jump back in!

My husband and I just got back from Peace Corps and still feel like semi-nomadic people. So, while I'm literally itching to get my easel out of storage, I have to satisfy my creative energy with Photoshop and paper. I've been working on putting an album of our PC experience together. It's so great to re-live what we've just done so soon afterward, while the memories are still fresh! My favorite thing I've been doing is hybrid scrapbooking! I love it! It's so much more mess-free! :)

Love Kelly Rae's work. Would love the opportunity to have a copy. I am enjoying using vintage pieces on my scrapbook pages right now. Found some vintage old maid cards while hitting yard sales as well as vintage book pages. Love the texture they bring.

I have been simplifying my creative path. Taking the pressure off and adding photos in protective sleeves and scrapbooking the ones that tell the story. Living in the moment.......thanks for the opportunity to win a really neat book.
