On My Mind : Random Wednesday Thoughts

Leaf

1. If you are local (live in Lane County, Oregon) don't forget that your mail-in ballot requires two stamps this time (actually 59 cents)...you may have missed that on the notes inside the ballot which was not listed on the outside of the return envelope. You can also drop-off your ballot at one of the approved drop-off locations.

2. This very interesting article from the New York Times: Reaching An Autistic Teenager

3. This song: All My Days by Alexi Murdoch

4. Baking lasagna tonight. Being home more (with a ton less travel than in the past) has really enabled me to do some cooking and baking and organizing done in the kitchen. Totally enjoying that right now. Yes, probably another symptom of early nesting.

Babyclothes

5. Another nesting symptom above. Hanging up baby clothes. Right now my office is still in the baby's room but I did make some space in the closet so I could see what I have and what we need (right now I have a nice little bit of pink mixed in with reds and oranges). And yes, I like matching hangers. Edited: Baby hangers can be found here.

6. I plan to post my 2007 Halloween minibook tomorrow. Finished it up yesterday and need to take pictures.

7. Scrapbook.com now has my new Technique Tuesday stamps available: Today You, Bits & Pieces, and Capture The Moment.

8. Loving that Simon really likes the new coat he helped pick out at Target the other day. He picked the blue one.

9. Robert Guest's letters to his kids (via Cookie). Imagine if you did this just once a month. Or once a year. I have done a few scrapbook layouts that are letters to Simon...it's another great way to approach your journaling.

10. A great list of eco-friendly gift ideas for kids: Bkids.

I love all the reds and oranges and not just completely pink! :) And I love the matching hangers, I wish I could be 10% as organized.
The blog looks great, thanks for posting the Christmas projects from the past couple years in all one place. I think I'm going to try to make the stamped picture frame! I love that and I just picked up some similar frames really cheap the other weekend, perfect timing! Looking forward to the Halloween minibook too!

DO you know how comforting it is to know that you just finished your Halloween 07 album -- for those of us who still lament over the stockpile of photos that we need or want to scrap?? I am looking forward to seeing it -- I am actually thinking of doing a Halloween mini album with 2 pages per year.

Ali, I too have to have the same kind of hanger - not necessarily all the same color but I don't and refuse to use anything wire!
I love the 10 random things... I think I need to do that more often to just remind myself of the little things that make life great! We are waiting for an OT to evaluate my son who was diagnosed with Asperger's a few months back... lots of sensory issues going on. Can't wait to see the Halloween album. Glad the pregnancy is going well.

I remember your Halloween cover from last year with the textured technique. Looking forward to the seeing the finished book. I had never made a special halloween focused project, but you inspired me to do so. I just finished last week and I must say the kids have loved flipping through it this past week. It's driving up their excitment level. Thanks for the idea, Ali.

My husband & I both write a letter to our daughters on their birthday each year. It's been a tradition I want to do their entire life. My husband has missed maybe 2 ( my girls are 8 and 7 now) but i haven't missed one...how it differs from their journals and all the scrap pages i do, not sure, but it just seems more personal when it's addressed to them on one sheet, although each journal entry starts, "dear savannah" "dear ava".....
can't wait to see your Halloween Mini! i did one of the 2006 halloween party we had for the girls!

do you have to mail in your ballot? or can you actually go and vote? i would think if people have to use their own stamps that might not be a good thing? off to find some answers about this?

Ali, you are going to love having a daughter...our new little girl, Ada Dorothy (whose old fashioned names are in honor of two great grandmothers), arrived on October 3rd. So excited for your family.

Thanks for the heads up about the postage - I don't know if Douglas County is the same, but I'll be looking for it. (Plus, I just saw Chris on the news talking about it, which was slightly weird because I was reading your blog at the same time. LOL!)

Thanks for sharing the article Ali. Still a bit scary thinking toward teenage years with an autistic child. We are making great strides right now with Brody at 6 years, huge gains - smart boy. Each day is a new adventure and sometimes challenging, but a blessing.
We have been approved for a service dog - NSD in Canada provides service dogs for Autistic children - took us about a year to be approved, now we have about 1 1/2 years to await our dog. We are so excited - can't wait.
God bless you all - can't wait to see the Halloween album. Are you also going to share tips are getting started for the December album that you did last year - would love some tips so that I can get organized for this year and carry the project out.
Almost done my week in the life - just adding my journaling and then ready to go to the printers
    Have a great day!!

    Hi Ali,
Not sure if the nesting thing is just pregnancy related; I tend to nest a lil every fall in worrying about the coming winter weather. I love the alexi murdoch song All My Days, thanks for introducing me to some new music.I have a 6 year old niece and almost 2 year old nephew, I know the joy they bring me; can't wait for you to enjoy being mom to a lil girl as well as your pride and joy - Simon. Take care, thanks for always inspiring me :)

Thanks for the NYT article link. It's always exciting to see how some people push the envelope and see results. You are doing wonderfully with Simon; although it must be exhausting, it must also be so rewarding to see him making progress.
Love the link to the baby hangers. My daughter is 3 months pregnant and I'm looking for cool things to give as gifts.
Just finished my voting last night...wondering if Douglas County ballot is heavy enough for 2 stamps - think I'll put two on, just in case.

Fabulous assortment of baby girl clothing. I too had my boy first then my girl. She is 2 now - such a fun age with her. It has been so amazing to me how they both come from the same genes and they are so drastically different. My boy is quiet and a hard thinker - She is loud, rambuctious, fiesty and a love. I find that they both feed off of each other and I guess that is where their differences benefit. I'm excited for you!

    Hi Ali,
Thanks for the article. Love the idea of a school like that for my boy he is only 8, but I do worry what will come his way. Love that he is so smart, he also has the sleeping issues as mentioned in the article. I will share this article with my parents group tonight. Enjoy the day.
