One Little Word 2009 & Giveaways

Nurture

I am so excited to embark on a new word for 2009.

My word is nurture.

Nurturedefinition

For me, especially with a new baby on the way within the next month or so, I have been thinking a lot about nurturing. It's such a soft, slow, gentle word.

There are many things in my life I would like to focus on nurturing this coming year. Our new baby girl. Simon and the transition to big brotherhood. My relationship with Chris. Photography. Patience. My business & this blog.

I am also going to be conscious of nurturing myself during this time of major transition in our lives.

There is something very special about this word for me. It represents slowing down, simplifying, and pinpointing what is really important to me in my life (not just the next 365 days). I am nervous and excited and so looking forward to what is to come.

The idea behind the one little word concept is to give yourself something to focus on throughout the year. As I stated in my newsletter back in January 2007, "A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow."

Also from that same newsletter:

Can you identify a single word that sums up what you want
for yourself in 2009?

It can be something tangible or intangible. It could be a
thought or a feeling or an emotion. It can be singular or
plural. The key is to find something that has personal
meaning for you. This is not your mother's word or your
spouse's word or your child's word - this is YOUR
word.

One little word can have big meaning in your life if you allow
yourself to be open to the possibilities. And here's one thing
that is totally interesting: sometimes a word will pop into
your brain and it will not make any sense to you right now.
Give it some time. Let it percolate a bit. I have often
found that our hearts speak to us in very unique ways.
Maybe this is a word you need to hear but just aren't ready
for it yet. Again, be open to the possibilities.

I can't wait to see all the words for 2009.

Good morning! I think my word is going to be "example." I want to remind myself each and everyday that I am the best example for my son, and that he will repeat everything I do. I don't want to have the attitude of do as I say, not as I do - I want him to know that I hold dear to my heart all of the things that I'm trying to teach him.

    CELEBRATE
As a reminder to celebrate the people and good things in your life ...
As a reminder that celebration doesn't need to be done on a big scale, but that it needs to happen in small ways every day ...
As a reminder that words are things, and that saying the words and recording the feelings are gifts to yourself and those you love.

My word for the new year us SIMPLICITY. I have two little boys and a little girl on the way. I want everything to be as simple as possible. The cooking, cleaning, the amount of stuff we have in our home, my scrapbooking, etc. I am very excited about making some changes to our lives and can't wait to see how our family is enriched this year.

My word for 2009 will be TEN. This past year a friend asked me how happy I was on a scale of 1 to 10 and I replied with 9. After saying it I realized there are only a few areas holding me back from being able to say 10. Including taking control of my health and adding more structure to my daily routine.
I want to strive this year to change those last few habits that keep me from living my fullest life and being able to confidently answer....TEN!

My word last year was celebrate - as in celebrate my home, family and life each day. I did 365 and did celebrate it!
This year, I'm not sure yet, still pondering which word will fit best...

I just love reading everyone else's words.
I haven't quite decided on mine for this year yet. (I have less than 24 hours to do so - so like me. Maybe I should make it "unprocrastinate" if that IS a word!) :)
I may go with last year's PURPOSEFUL. I feel like I didn't get all the "use" out of it that I could.
Two other possibilities: SUPPORT or SIMPLIFY. Both of these are speaking to me in a big way. The first speaks more to what others in my life are needing from me right now (and I want to give) and the 2nd is a yearning that I always seem to have in my soul - and especially at this time of the year!
    We shall see...

I didn't have to think to long about my word this year. It is Patience. I need some patience with myself, my kids, my work...really everything. I have been praying for more patience for months now and when saw your first post about the word of the year I knew right away what mine would be. I am definitely making some things with my word on it this year for several different rooms in my house. I'm excited to do a page or several...with my word on it.
I can't wait to come back and read everyone's ideas. As always you are a true inspiration.

Right now, I am thinking that my word should be RESOURCEFUL -- considering the economy and the possibility that my hubby's job may be eliminated in 09 -- however, that may not look so good on a necklace! I will think on other words that would relate to this --- thanks for the giveaway and Happy New Year.

My word this year will be "roll" as in roll with the punches. This last year has been one whopper punch after another in my life and my career and the changes are taking place on a minute by minute basis. I'm totally in love with two country songs right now 1) "Roll On" by Kid Rock and 2) "Roll With Me" by Montgomery Gentry so the word "Roll" just fits this year.

My word for 2008 was "breathe" and I wore it around my neck all year on a Lisa Leonard necklace to remind me to take time for myself evey once and awhile. This year I think my word will be "change" though I am not quite sure yet. I also have a new baby on the way and I know how dramatically things are going to change in my life when it is not just me and my husband anymore. This is a great giveaway and I am anxious to see what word everyone chooses for the year.

I think I will be going with the word EMBRACE for 2009 as there will be some huge changes that I will be undertaking, some good and some not so good. Embrace will encourage me to face this changes in a positive way and hopefully give me the inner strength that I might need.
I hope 2009 is a wonderful year for you and your family!
