Saw the word Attitude on your list of words and it immediately made me smile. Think I need more attitude so I am going with this one. Thanks for the inspiration!

I chose two words for 2009: quiet and strength. I spent half of 2008 dealing with breast cancer and its effects on my body and mind. I found myself easily angered, panicked even, and totally fatigued. So this year I would to re-build the quietness of my life and the vigor of my body.

I was looking over the list yesterday and did not see my word. However, I took another peek today and there is was. I read through the comments and noticed a lady named Judi had the same idea I did. My word for 2009 is dash. Judi's comment: 'My word is more of a phrase. "Its all about the Dash" The Dash is the time between being Born and Death. I am trying to make my Dash count.' These are my feelings as well. There are so many 'things' in life that really don't matter. What does matter is how to live and love. I need to slow down and consider what is real and true, think more about others, smile more, change things that need to be changed, be more patient and less quick to be angered by something or someone. I want to love the people in my life like I've never loved them before. We never know how much time we have left and I want to make the most of it. I want God to look at what I have done with my dash and as the poem says, say "Well done".

Hi Ali! Thanks for putting this list together. I'm coming in on this a little late this year, but my word for 2009 is Honesty.
At first I was questioning my word, but after picking up vol. 1 of Susan Sontag's biography and reading it in the very first passage, I knew it was the word for me. She writes this; I believe: (b) That the most desirable thing in the world is freedom to be true to oneself, i.e., Honesty
Possibly you could add Honesty to your list.

My word would have to be DISCIPLINED. I want to get off my fanny, away from this computer, scrap more, be active and get exercise, make better choices about what I eat, get organized, and be resourceful with what I have, pay more attention to my budget and all these things require me to discipline myself.

Hi Ali....I wanted to leave you a quick note to tell you about something that may be of interest to you. Brenda Arnall had a wonderful idea of a way to be more mindful of our blessings in life...big & small. This evolved into a community of people who have all decided to join her in this 52 blessings journey. The link to the gratitue project web site that was created is on my blog (Jan 3rds post). I thought this might be something you might interested in.
p.s. - my word this year is "change". As always..thanks for being a continuing source of inspiration for so many of us & congrats on the new addition soon to join your family.

My choices don't have to fit any box. I can (and hope to better)listen to within and make a path that is right for me.

Wow, mostly a lurker, and haven't decided on my work yet, but "ready" from Libby really hit the nail on the head for me.
I am ready to take charge, tackle things that I have been putting off, and take the good with the bad because I am ready to make choices for ME!
    Phew, that feels good!
Thanks Ali, so cool to see how many people you have inspired with just one little word!

    Ali,
Thank you so much for continuing this tradition each year. It means so much, not only to me, but to so many others as well. Last year was BELIEVE. I have it in bold letters above my desk. I made a little graphic that I stuck everywhere. I am going to do the same this year. I have already done the graphic and have it everywhere. Just a small jolt in wherever I find myself - in the house, in the car, in my purse. This year is COURAGE and I have already been jolted several times. Again, I thank you and your celebrity and sharing it with us for changing so many lives in this small way. I remember reading that you did not start it, but it certainly feels that way to me and many others. I hope your find NURTURE to be a jolting word for you and yours this year! Happy 2009!

I read your word posts some days ago and thought it to late to post anything - so I didn't even bother thinking of a word. But suddenly out of the blue a word came to me and I knew it will be my word for 2009. Unfold. I have so many projects stored in my head and the list seems to pile up every january - seldom diminishing as I never seem to get things done - so this year I will unfold my projects - I am going to write a list - a detailed list and commit to finishing a certain number of them in 2009. Thank you Ali for jogging on my unconscious!

I did post my words, but I thought of a great word to add to your list: GREEN! I spent much of '08 working on being more green, and '09 will be no different!
