Threethingsjan14

This week we are taking a peek at a couple Valentine/Love related products. Look for another round of three next week - there are just too many cool things out there for creating projects that celebrate those you love.

• Thinking a little tiny bit about Valentine projects (must be all the pink). Planning to use my new "Loving Stamps" from Technique Tuesday on something Valentine related. You can also pick up a similar digital version called "Loving Life Word Art." You can download the new Technique Tuesday 2009 Winter Supplement (pdf)
to see the entire line of stamps (or go here).

• Speaking of Valentine's, one of my favorite product lines from CHA last summer
(the big Craft & Hobby show) was from Little Yellow Bicycle called "Love Letters." I love the cardstock stickers (shown above),

• This wonderful print that is going to hang somewhere in my house (maybe in the baby's room or a bathroom) from isophotography (found via poppytalk handmade). It would make a great gift for a loved one.

• And one more lovey thing I couldn't resist this week: little love notes tickets from Making Memories.

Every holiday, for me, gets more special now that I have kids. I always make them special Valentines treats to give to their friends. And as they get older they help me with making their own Valentine cards. I usually make special treats for them at home, too. And they get Valentine's gifts from mommy & daddy. The whole day is about love :)

Hi Ali! My kids and I have been making marshmallow lollipops dipped in candy melts and decorated with sprinkles. They have been a hit in both preschool and now in elementary school. We even went further with it last year and matched the colors of the melted candy/sprinkles with each child's valentines (I have three school-age kids and they always have different Valentines). For example, my son who had Scooby-Doo cards dipped his marshmallows in purple candy melts and we used bright green and blue sprinkles -- tied with matching ribbon, it looked very cute!

For the past few years, I've been making homemade valentine's for my four boys and my husband. Last year, I made them each a small heart-shaped mini-album telling them three reasons why I love them. This is the perfect holiday to be creative and make something homemade!

We love to stay at home and celebrate as a family. I usually make a favorite dish for dinner. My husband and I will then pick another day (our regular date night is Sunday nights) to have our very own 'Valentines Night' :)
God's richest blessings with your new addition - yeah, another one to LOVE!!!

years ago my husband got a tacky red box with a BIG flower on it, i think we are going on 8 years that he has filled the same box for me. Now, my two kids have their own box, my son's box has a cute little tie on it and my daughter has a BIG flower just like me. He fills it with all sorts of sweet treats for us. Last year, my daughter demanded we go out to eat and all of us get dressed up, ties, dresses the whole bit but we had a great time.

Each of the girls get a red carnation from their granddad--they love that special attention. There are heart-shaped cookies with special decorations to make and decorations for the windows to put up. It's a nice holiday in the middle of the cold winter days.

These giveaways are great! My oldest son is just big enough now to cut out heart shapes w/ his own scissors so we will probably make some Valentines of our own as well as some heart shaped cut-out cookies for his teachers and the kids at school.

For Valentine's Day, we all share a favorite story about each other over hot cocoa. I must note that our little girls are 3 and 5 so the stories we hear are quite entertaining!! Thanks for the fun!!

We usually have a special dinner with the kids and I make them each their own heart cake for dessert. The sweetest thing is when my husband pulls out gifts for the girls (which I have no idea what they are) and to see thier faces. It reminds me of when my dad sent me my own flowers when I was a little girl...I was only 6 but I will never forget it!! Thanks! Dawn H

It's always a tradition in our house that Daddy gets the girls a new stuffed animal of some sorts. They keep them all too! I love to make everything heart shaped (from pancakes to sandwiches) and we always do handmade Valentines.

My husband and I usually exchange cards and little treats and go out to dinner. This year my little guy will probably get a little treat, too. Maybe he'll get a rare evening with a babysitter, too. :-o

Several years ago I splurged at Home Goods and bought Valentine dishes. I make a fancy and sometimes "heart shaped" dinner for our family and we eat in the dining room by candlelight. I have favors every year at the table - everything from heart shaped chocolate suckers to valentine pajamas are gifts that are at their places. When they were littler I made heart shaped hamburgers and to this day my daughter asks me to form her hamburger in a heart shape when we have them for dinner.

I started making my husband mini-books about things I love about him for Valentine's Day. We also like to bring our neighbors plates of homemade goodies with handmade cards. I teach 2nd grade and it's a big day of showing gratitude for each other and people that we appreciate at school, instead of focusing on all the candy. We read 100 books we love and list 100 words we love, etc..

We don't have any Valentine's day traditions, it's not that big in Finland. The kids make cards for their friends though. Your sponsors' new lines are really sweet!

We don't always do something special on Valentine's Day. I get the kids a little box of candy and my husband will buy me flowers. Keep it simple.

We're not very good at celebrating Valentine's Day. It exists here in Sweden too, but I have looked upon it as a commercial thing that the industry is trying to hausse in order to sell a lot of stuff and make a lot of money. And this has perhaps made me a little more reluctant towards the whole Valentine-thing than is really necessary. ;-)
The whole idea of showing your loved ones a little extra love is of course great! And I believe me and the kids have made Valentine's cards for their daddy a few times. But we don't have any other tradition.... yet... :)

    Hi Ali!
My husband and I usually write short letters to each other expressing our love and what we are grateful for. I love keeping these to read years later. Much better than anything from the store.

Last year was my son's first valentine's and he couldn't really enjoy it. This year I am going to start several tradtions. Starting on February 1st, we will have the 14 days of Valentine's...each day he will get some little prize. Then on Valentine's day, he will get a special breakfast on his own special valentine's plate (purchased at Target). For my husband, I like to do somethin handmade. It seems to mean more to the both of us.

My kids are very young so last year we made our valentines to give to our preschool classmates -- it was so fun! This year I want to decorate a valentine tree either using one of our small Christmas trees or some bare branches from outside. All the products you showcased are beautiful!

As a teacher, Valentine's Day is a great way to show each student how much he/she means to me and each other. One rule, if you hand out cards, everyone gets one. And we all write little notes to pass out to everyone, something simple. "I really like the way you shared your pencils with me. Thank you." Just notes of appreciation to each other. My cards all include a note, plus some little goodie!

My mom always gave me a 4 piece Whittman Sampler and I give the same to my kids. I also have a special dinner with my husband after the kids go to bed.

I got this idea from Heidi Swapp. I decorate the top of Valentine's heart shaped candy boxes (people's favorites of course) with pictures, paper and embellishments. This is both a gift and the card and everyone loves it!!!
