Wednesday Giveaway : Superhero

Superhero

Today I want to celebrate a wonderful blogger, jewelry artist, mother, and life coach who has become a friend: Andrea Scher of Superhero Designs. [ photo below by Boho Girl Denise Andrade ]

Andrea is the reason I began blogging back in 2004. I was working on a project for a workshop about designing with color (& color inspiration) and was searching the internet using the search terms "colorful jewelry." I stumbled onto Andrea's Superhero site (and of course I had to order a handmade necklace as part of my research), started reading her blog and checking out all her inspiring links, and decided then and there that what she was doing was cool and I wanted to start my own blog.

Andrea_ben_by_denise

I finally got to meet Andrea in person last summer after corresponding back and forth from time to time over the past four years. It was awesome. She has a heart of gold, a wonderful written voice, and a gift for helping people get in touch with their own inner superhero.

Today, lucky readers, Andrea is giving away a one of her fantastic, colorful bead necklaces. In addition, she has a special holiday sale happening now that includes $20 off necklaces bead necklaces. Passion would make a great gift for a special friend (or a suggestion for a spouse who may need a little help in choosing a Valentine gift).

Here's a little FAQ on her lovely necklaces. She has also added these very cool silver pendant necklaces to her offerings.

To be entered into the drawing today leave a comment that highlights your own personal superpower (or superpowers). And before you think you have none, stop and consider the possibility
for a moment. What is something you are just awesome at? Take a
minute to be proud of something about ourselves and share it publicly.
I bet you are your very own superhero in some very special way.

Comments will be closed at 8pm Pacific tonight with the winner posted shortly after.

Well yes, my first reaction was that I don't have superpowers but then I sat down and gave it some thought. I don't know why it is, but women NEVER like to blow their own trumpets. Even though there is a LOT of blowing to be done!
    So here are mine :-)
My husband tells me that I have a super high pain threshold. Big babies, no drugs. (My last baby was 9 lbs 7ozs. He was induced two weeks early because my OBGYN said he was going to be over 11 lbs, LOL).
I beat 3 years of Post-Partum depression after my second child. When I say that hole was BLACK, DARK and LONELY, that is a huge understatement.
I also decided that I was going to lose all the weight I had gained so I went on to lose 83 lbs in weight during that PPD time and dared to get pregnant again three years later.
I asked my kids what I am good at:
Darcey 6 1/2 said "Singing, baking and making her bed, lol"
Cameron 5 1/2 said "Playing Mario Cart and being silly"
When I asked Noah 2 1/2 "Babylicious, what do you like Mummy to do?" He said "'Tiss Mom, Hug, cueeze" Which to you means he likes me to kiss him, hug him and squeeze him. LOL Then he took off singing "Mama Mia, Here I go again....." LOL. Can't believe he knows that song!
My Dad calls my Mum 'Phenomenal Phyllis',even though her name is Jean. The name pretty much explains itself! Now my DH taken to calling me that and when I asked him why he said that "I get an awful lot done in a day". My first reaction was to get it on paper! LOL, the second was he is a sweet boy :-) and tells the truth........hee hee.

My super power is that I have a memory of steel! No matter what my hubby has misplaced I'm able to remember where it last was. :)

Mine is making the hubby smile. Sometimes he comes home from work and just seems so defeated and tired. I let him have his "decompression" time and then I just give him my heart and mind. He needs that. And if I give him a hour he's usually back to the hubby that makes ME smile!

My super power is being patient enough that I let 25 five year olds paint Eric Carle paper today - - - at once, using three colors per paper and about two gallons of tempura paint. It was an explosion of color and paint, and spilled out into the hallway to make room for it to dry. Tomorrow we start making the Very Hungry Caterpiller with our papers, which will be turned into notecard sized stationary through the magic of offset printing. I don't actually fly, but my sudents wouldn't be suprised if I could.

My superpower is empathy and support! Sometimes I assume that everyone has empathy, but I've learned that isn't true. I love to be able to listen to and understand the people I work with and the greatest joy I have is when I know that they feel supported. Today was a really great affirmation of that, and this post fit in well!

I can see through walls...at least my children thought so when they were little and I could catch them doing something without even seeing them.
Really, I am very organized. Love organizations.

Love the necklace now for my "power" as a typical Brit I find it hard to talk about myself but do find that I tend to be the "rock" when friends have problems or just need help.

My superpower would probably be my ability to cook, clean, organize, find lost things, teach, read, know where everything is, snuggle, and love my family simultaneously without losing my mind (most days!). :)

my superpower is being able to sing. It's a God given gift and I use it every saturday night at church to sing praise. I also sing the first Friday of every month at my children's school mass. I hope that by hearing my voice, people who come to our mass feel some of what I do when I sing.
    thanks Ali!!

My superpower would be multi-tasking. I have 3 kids who all play sports on different teams. I manage them and no one has missed a game or practice!

my super power is inherited from my mother and only came to fruition more than 22 years ago when i became a mother for the first time. i developed all-seeing, discerning eyes which is kind of ironic considering that my "normal" vision is so poor that i have been wearing glasses since age 8 mos that are coke bottle thick. but back to my super power, i see everything related to my 5 children. they never stand a chance hiding from me. But fortunately, since i am blessed with pretty great kids, i don't have to use my super powers too often. or perhaps it is because they are smarter than i was as a kid because i never understood how mom knew when i would try to get away with things behind her back. LOL i guess my kids figured out pretty quick that they couldn't so they didn't :)
i am such a big fan of andrea's blog and her amazing designs.

My "superpower" is that I am really great at reading people, sensing their energy and feeling what it is that may do for them - such as smile, say hello, take them dinner etc. I have been so blessed with happiness and joy and beautiful friendships everyday to have this gift.

Photographic memory. I can even remember what page number in a specific book that a certain quote is on. (I swear it's the only way I got all A's in college.) And now, in my law enforcement career, I can remember an incident months later just based on a name, even after having contact with hundreds of people.

Thanks for sharing such happy jewelry! I love all the colors. My superpower is running. I'm thankful to be able to run on behalf of charities and help them raise money for much needed cancer research. Believe me I'm not in perfect shape and you might not think to look at me that I'm a runner. But I am proof that if you can handle the training (for weeks and weeks) you can run/walk for the races and causes that you love. Thanks for making me think about me today!
