Get It Scrapped is giving away one spot in Pattie Knox's "More Mad Digital Skillz" online workshop.

Pattie Knox’s favorite part of digital scrapbooking is learning new techniques for creating realistic--as in “I can’t believe that’s not paper!”--layouts. In “More Mad Digital Skillz,” you’ll learn how to create torn edges on your photos and papers, how to insert photos into type, Pattie’s method for digital dry embossing, and much more about making your own brushes, working with custom shapes, and creating depth and interest with texture. Each lesson is accompanied by beautiful digital products from the talented artists at Designer Digitals—including Ali Edwards! Class starts May 25th at Get It Scrapped!

I keep a spiral journal for all scrapbooking topics: lists of subjects to scrapbook about, responses to writing prompts, transcripts from family interviews, good quotes, old and new memory stories, event info. Everything is in one place. I try to write SOMETHING every few days.

Partly it helps that I'm a writer by nature it's something I've always loved to do but I keep a journal, I have a blog and I carry notebooks with me everywhere I go. I feel it's important to just get everything down and then when you go to journal you can tell a complete story.

My tip is simple - write it down! Kids say the best things but life passes by and you forget exactly what they say and if you don't write it down right away you loose it.

One of the best tips I ever received was to imagine I was telling a friend the story behind the picture--and then to write that as my journaling. It's a great way to capture the "who, what, where, why" along with the reasons the picture(s) are important to me.

Write it down somewhere sooner rather than later. Also maybe ask the kids or others in the photos their thoughts on the day or activity and include it in the journaling.

When I'm stuck, I will think of sitting with someone I love, going through a photo album, explaining to her what's going on in the pictures. I also focus sometimes on what isn't in the picture, the back story.
    Great question, Ali. : )

Journaling with a pen you enjoy workds best for me. AND journaling soon after an event happens to remember the details!

My tip is to write it down as soon as you can. Sometimes I get in that habit, and sometimes I forget. But it is amazing how fast you can forget the stories. I usually just open a new word doc and start typing. I also started a private blog to add stories to as well.

My journaling tip is that I generally finish my layout before I do any journaling. I usually know how I want my LO to look, but sometimes I am inspired to do something different during the process. I like for my journaling to "match" the LO, if that makes sense. In my head my journaling may be funny, but after completing a page I may see the story differently and then change the way I tell the story.

LOVE that Blue Moon package! My family thinks I'm the queen of the post-it note! I figure that it doesn't really matter where it's written down, just that it is.

I carry a little notebook in my purse for quick thoughts or details. If we've been traveling I do a little internet research on the destination for journaling details. Great prize offerings this week -- thanks!

I try to remember smells, temperatures, tastes and sounds of the place that I am journaling about- it puts me right back there in that spot so that I can genuinely jot down the emotions & memories from that time.

When I have gone on week long vacations I keep a journal. It would probably work with my daily ramblings if I would stick with it.

Just write! Overthinking and trying to get my wording perfect only results in it never being done. I have to just do it because it's the documentation that is important...not my wording or bad handwriting!

I like to ask my daughters (3 and 5) their perspective, what they remember, and journal their words. I'll ask them what was their favorite part of the day, event, etc. and document their quotes.

The best tip that was ever given to me was to keep a photo journal (small booklet) in my camera bag. That way I can jot it down quickly with the date etc. Then I can scrap and note the memories. It was the best tip I heard! Thanks again A, for the great blog and chances to win fun prizes :)

My best journaling tip is to use my family blog as a "holding place" for my journaling topics and ideas. Composing for a larger audience always helps my written voice, and since everything is organized chronologically on my blog, it is easy to find the entry I want to turn into a scrapbook journaling piece. The blog is so easy and non-threatening that I find myself recording much more fun and interesting details about our daily life than I would ever capture in a traditional album. Blogs and scrapbook journaling are great compliments to each other in my life.

I love using bullet lists. It's an easy way to capture the moment/thought in a concise way, but allowing for good description in each small piece.

I'm a very, very left-brained person so my most comfortable journaling style is bullets with details--the W's, things said, impressions. Prose style journaling is very awkward to me.

I often refer to the Shortcut Quizzes by Simple Scrapbooking when I'm having a tough time with journaling. Usually one or two questions are enough to help.

I keep a notebook too. . .I write down funny things my kids say right away and date it and refer to it when I have the perfect pic to pair with it. I also cut inspiring quotes from magazines and keep them in that notebook. =)
