Get It Scrapped is giving away one spot in Pattie Knox's "More Mad Digital Skillz" online workshop.

Pattie Knox’s favorite part of digital scrapbooking is learning new techniques for creating realistic--as in “I can’t believe that’s not paper!”--layouts. In “More Mad Digital Skillz,” you’ll learn how to create torn edges on your photos and papers, how to insert photos into type, Pattie’s method for digital dry embossing, and much more about making your own brushes, working with custom shapes, and creating depth and interest with texture. Each lesson is accompanied by beautiful digital products from the talented artists at Designer Digitals—including Ali Edwards! Class starts May 25th at Get It Scrapped!

I have been keeping a journal for my Project 365 which makes it easy to remember everything about a photo. That has been very helpful in my scrapbooking lately.

I don't know if this is really a tip or not, but my best advice for writing is to stop worrying about it. I was so worried I'd miss something or that it wouldn't be "right" that I'd never do it. I'd rather have SOMETHING than nothing because I'm scared it's not right.

My best tip is to journal in a little notebook about the event, and go back later to record it.

I keep a little note book and write down memories as they happen or as I remember past things. This helps when I get to scrapbook to have some notes to look back at!

I'd say, make a few notes as soon as you can so the memories are fresh (I have a great diary with notebook pages opposite), then vary how you record on the page - a few key words, a list, using numbers to tell the story, a letter to your husband/child/sister/self etc...

Tip #1: Look through your sent email messages, blog / forum postings, Facebook posts, etc. for details you can use in your layouts.
Tip #2: just do it! I usually start with the journaling before planning the rest of my layout. Write down the basic facts/thoughts on a piece of scrap paper, then you can write it out again and expand on your thoughts - or not! Doing it on scrap paper first gives you an idea of how much space you will need in your layout. Thanks for the giveaway!

Write what you feel...don't worry about pleasing somebody else w/your writing style. It doesn't have to be a perfect literary piece, just make sure it tells your story the way you felt and remember it.

I put stories up on my blog and on my facebook account, and when I go to do my page, often I can just "cut and paste" the story right into photoshop. Or I can edit out the parts that don't easily work on my page with very little effort. I want my journaling to sound like the way I would tell the story to my friends or my mom, and that's why I use my blog and my facebook.

Sometimes it's quotes from a conversation, at times what happened and sometimes nothing. The style and what goes in it hugely depends on the layout

I have sticky notes that I keep on my desk and just jot down what I think will eventually end up on a layout. Not really a good system but it works for me. I've also started writing on a small notebook so I think between the two journaling systems I should be ok.

I have a blog that I use to recap events of the day every night. I have often used my blog "journal" to help me create journaling for my pages. Sometimes I simply copy and paste the entire thing.

My best tip is nothing new. The standard "keep a note pad handy". But for me its especially at night when my mind is racing and I cannot fall asleep. In the dark and quiet, everthing comes out so much clearer and my best ideas and thoughts are born! And that gives me the peace to fall asleep:)

I have to write down thoughts soon after taking photos, if I wait until I finally scrapbook the pictures it's too hard to remember the exact moment/feeling.

Doing Project 365 for a year and a half now, I find that I have journaling in the back of my mind almost all the time. It has helped me see/record the little moments and record them, not just big stuff.

Many times when I have been stumped for journaling I refer to my blog. If nothing else it is a jumping off point.

My mind works in lists, so it's easiest for me to jot down a few bullet points to highlight what I'd like to journal about until I have the time to sit down and expound the story. I can get really wordy at times, so this helps me to remember what I was thinking and feeling and why I wanted to record it.

I started a file on my computer where I have typed in my reflections about those special days in our lives. On the weekend of our daughter's graduation, I created a file and typed in the facts but also some personal reflections and then I used that to journal about the event. I also carry a small planner in my purse to write down ideas and ah ha moments.

My tip is that perfection is over-rated. I am a horrible speller and if I misspell a word on a layout (I always use my own handwriting) then that is just a little bit of me that gets left for my posterity.

Before I write it down I ask myself what are the important points that I want to make sure I include in my story and then I make sure I save enough room for them and don't fill my space with too many unnecessary details (a habit of mine).

Consider your audience. Most of my pages are about (and for) my son, so I always write TO him.

when I get stuck, I start with the words of the person the page is about. Either a quote or I think about how they would tell me the story, I find it helps me find my voice, almost like a conversation.

Here is my FAVORITE tip- I have the cutest green apple Centro, and I have lists in my "memos" where I quickly type in cute things that my kids say, game scores that I want to remember for pages, and any other things that strike my fancy. I have one for color combos that I saw, inspirational things I have seen, books to look up- I even have a list for "new" releases from my favorite manufacturers that I want to buy. It is SO convenient and simple. I back up my phone about once a week, so I don't lose anything. I have even emailed the lists to myself so that I could print them out to scrap!

I have to write my journaling down on scrap paper first. I have a hard time journaling - sometimes I write too much and others I don't write enough.

Just write...don't make it perfect, for it is just for you and your family to treasure in the years to come.
