my mother used to grow these when I was growing up in NY - I remember that little ants were attracted to them outside - and she used to fill the house with them when they were buds so they would open up in the house and fill the air with a sweet fragrance - I loved it! thanks for bringing those memories back~!~

Oh Ali thank you for sharing this. Since moving to south Florida I have missed spring flowers the most. I loved my peony and iris bed with the lilacs on the fence...I especially miss the wonderful perfume of peonies on my dining room table. You just made my day!

Peonies are beautiful! I'm enjoying the peony bush in my neighbor's yard across the street.

How pretty! Ours opened last week here in chicago. Do you have ants all over yours too? If so, how do you get rid of them. Just wondering what method you use.

I do love the peonies - one is tattooed on my arm in fact! After Kelly Rae's post the other day, I almost bought some when I went to Whole Foods market - but holy schnikees they were super expensive!!! Hoping that it won't rain on Friday so I can get some at the Farmer's Market instead - even if they are a bit spendy, I'd rather support the local farmer, KWIM?
Anyway, till then, I'll have to keep this post and Kelly Rae's open on my desktop so I can live vicariously through yours!
    Have a great Monday!

I don't have ants on my peony shrubs outside (these ones were purchased)...we seem to mainly have issues with snails.

I just bought some peonies yesterday...so pretty! For those people who have peonies in their yard with ants...try spraying a mixture of water and mild dish detergent on them...the suds will suffocate the ants.
