Paying Attention

Payingattention
[ Image from Keri Smith's book The Guerilla Art Kit. ]

I am beyond excited that my sister and niece are coming for a visit this week. I'm hoping to work on my "paying attention" skills by becoming a bit of a tourist in my own town. Looking forward to showing my sister and Gabrielle (who is just a month younger than Anna) around and exploring some of my favorite shops & restaurants that I don't get to visit often enough.

And along these same lines I have a guest post about my life right now called "Around Here" posted at WishStudio. Definitely going to incorporate those words into a layout soon.

I am a teacher and I love that quote. Thanks for sharing. I am going to make something with the quote on it and put it on my desk in my classroom. Being fully present is more than half the battle. Thanks for sharing and enjoy your family time.

One of the great things about having company is giving yourself permission to stop and enjoy hometown wonderfulness that we usually don't make time for. Enjoy, and make sure to include a river walk along the Willamette. That is one of the things I miss most about being away from Eugene.

Loved your "Around here" post- especially the mention of a new bed for Simon to make room for his lego collection...with two boys of my own, I completely know what you are talking about there!

Have fun! We just did the tourist in your home town for the last couple of weeks while my kids were on a school break.

Honestly no one touches my heart the way you do Ali, you have such a gift for cutting right to the heart of things, things that are also in my heart but struggle to get out. Bless your heart and bless your family, and thank you for sharing.

Love that quote! It's something of a mantra in our house. But mostly, I am sighing something of a huge relief in reading on the wish studio site that you have two baby sitters. I've been wondering what on earth you put in your coffee to make it possible to be a mom to two, a wife, and have such a successful, prolific career.

:) - this is my passion and my job and I definitely could not do it without help. I have gone through periods where I tried to do it on my own - especially when Simon was really small as my business/career was growing - and it was very, very hard. With the addition of Anna to the family it was more than necessary to have babysitters :).

I really liked your post on WishStudio, especially the part about modeling "following passions, self-care, exercise, compassion, patience, laughter." I read that several times to let it sink in. And I feel inspired by the "Around here..." prompt. A great way to capture the everyday at this moment in time.

Thanks to your reminder to simplify and learn to recognize what products you use over and over; I spent the morning cleaning my scrap room. I have a stack of books waiting to be donated to the library, large bag of stamps I'll donate to a local after school group. Thanks for reminding us that less really is more.

Hope you enjoy the time with your sister and niece, and have a wonderful week! =)

I hope you keep track of the cool places you explore with your sister & niece. With a daughter going to school in Eugene, we're often popping down, and would love a list of places you love! If you don't feel this is "blog-worthy" 'cause of the international scope of your readers, maybe you could create a little side link that can be expanded as you think of other places that need to be checked out in your area! Please?!? P.S. loved your "Around here" interview! Thanks!

For a special occasion (and a little more money) I always love Marche. For everyday meals we love CafeYumm, Laughing Planet, or a Mexican restaurant called Los Dos Amigos.

Read your "around here" blog and saw the younger picture of you. That picture was the first time I thought Simon looked like you. I think it is the eyes. I love reading your stuff. You are so inspiring.
