You Are Worthy : You Are Enough : Brené Brown DVD Giveaway

Brenebrown045

For quite a number of years now, I have believed that scrapbooking is a way to own our story.

Through documentation and exploration and simply getting the story down on paper we come to know ourselves better. And as my friend Dr. Brené Brown says, "we gain access to our worthiness."

I first met Brené, a researcher, writer and professor, a few years back at our now annual Oregon Coast summer retreat. She is an exceptional woman who inspires me in so many ways, most especially through her concept of wholeheartedness. We bonded over some of our "better" type-A qualities, years & years of swimming, good old sarcasm, and the fact that we both "like our crazy right up front."

Karen did a great interview yesterday with Brené here.

BBrownCaseFrontMed This week Brené is celebrating the release of her new DVD titled The Hustle for Worthiness with a Week of Worthiness on her blog. To help her celebrate I am giving away one of these DVD's today.

One of my favorite ways to celebrate "who I am" and "what I believe" is to capture the ordinary moments of life - the moments that tell the real everyday stories of our family. Leave a comment below sharing one of your favorite ordinary moments for a chance to win Brené's new DVD.

Comments will be closed tonight at 8pm Pacific with the winner posted shortly after.

Your post reminds me that I need to slow down and truly enjoy more of those ordinary moments. One of my favorites is snuggling with my dog, Lucy. Her joy and energy are an inspiration to everyone in the house.

When I get home from work and my husband and dogs come out to the car to greet me. It's good to be home.

My favorite ordinary moment is a "real" moment... when I leave work each day. While I like my job, leaving each day reminds me that there is more to life than WORK! Thank heavens for that!

I love the moment when my kids get off the school bus. Seeing them run in the house and babbling about the days events just is so ordinary and wonderful all at the same time. :-) peace...

When I take time to relax and hear what is going on around me. Like last night - listening to the rain, or this morning - listening to the birds. It is very calming.

mine is when all 3 of my kiddos pile into our bed on Saturday and Sunday mornings. There is nothing like waking up to 3 smiling faces that are so excited to see their MOMMA! I struggle with this comparing myself to others, always wanting more. Not material things either. Just be a "better" parent, be that skinny lady sipping her coffee at the shop, etc. It's something I've been wanting to tackl! LOVE MYSELF and enjoy who I am. What I bring to this world and to my children. :-)

Ordinary moments I love: working with my kids on doing their chores and teaching them how to take responsibility and do a good job.

My favorite moment(s) is watching my children sleep. I can only imagine what is swimming around in their brains. What are they dreaming about? Will they go to the beach? Will the be taken on a roller coaster ride? It is so peaceful and amazing to watch them and know that I created that human. WOW! Thank you God for that gift!

One night cooking - with an 18 year old and the 21 year old twins packed into the kitchen - the laughter and sharing - what a perfectly 'ordinary' moment that I never want to forget.

I love lying on my daughter's bed each night and talking with her before she falls asleep. She's almost 11 now and we've been doing this pretty much her whole life. Sometimes we get laughing and giggling so much that we cry! Sometimes we just gently talk before she falls asleep (or I fall asleep!). I always spent time with my kids before they fell asleep, but after 4 boys there is something magical about this time with my daughter.

I really liked the blog post - really hit home!
Thourghout the day there are certain moments that seem to calm me and I feel content. My grown son saying I love you as he goes to study, my cat perching on the arm of my chair, turning her head to look lovingly into my eyes, my husband's playful smile from across the room, ahh those hugs I feel and the saying from a movie - "my cup runneth over".
That being said I am haunted by the "if only's" - if only I would get this job - if only I lost weight - if only I was younger or prettier. Still I battle the worthiness aspect! I have hope!

My favorite every day moment is when we sit down as a family each night at dinner. We have a tradition where we go around the table, youngest to oldest, and report our "high" and "low" for the day. We have such great conversations sparked from this simple activity - and, like at our table last night - it can spark some sillyness and laughs too! Just real, home-grown, simple time spent well together as a family.

I love when I walk outside and hear the birds singing. My daughter at college sent me a text one morning that she opened her window just to enjoy the sound of the birds.

When I am spending time with my friend and we don't need to say anything but look into each other's eyes to know what the other is thinking or feeling and then a moment later smiling, laughing, comforting, or crying. In a way, not so ordinary (as in routine or special) a moment, but to an observer, it would be not much more than two friends together.

Little Man and I are hanging out and he asks me, "Mom, we're best friends, right?".
It doesn't get any better than that. :)
