Week In The Life : Bringing It All Together • The Photos, Part Two

IMG_1044

This was the scene late last week after my photos arrived in the mail from scrapbookpictures.com.

It's always so cool to have photos in hand. I really like how the 8.5x11 photo collage pages turned out and I decided not to cut them out and adhere them to cardstock. Originally I thought I would do that so that the papers "matched" but when it came down to it that was going to take me a whole lot longer and I just didn't want to spend the time doing that when it looked perfectly fine as it was. All I ended up doing was adhering the pattern paper strips and the tabs and calling it good for this portion of the album.

If you are paying really close attention you might notice that the long strip and the short strip of pattern paper are switched (long first vs. short piece first) in comparison with the layered template package. I happened to just dive right in adhering the strips and this is what I ended up with.

Here's a look at each of the photo pages (still working on the baseball card page protectors):

Supplies used can be found in this post.

Tomorrow I hope to have the whole album complete including a cover page, the baseball card page protector photos and the rest of my journaling.

Thank you to those of you who have been emailing me images of your project. I'm looking forward to showing other examples later this week. Feel free to send me some samples of your album at ali@aliedwardsdesign.com. Please put Week In The Life Example in the subject line.

Hi Ali, I just wanted to say a personal heartfelt thankyou to you for the inspiration, encouragement and support to do this project. Although I've not yet completed my physical album, I have gained so much from this project already and my 5 yo daughter was onboard and suprisingly so into documenting our daily life. I know this album will be something we will treasure for years to come.
You are amazing!!! Thank you x

    Happy May and Monday Ali,
I love all your pictures and the way you put it together. I agree that the collage pages looked good as is, I'm still cutting and trimming, cropping my photos so much work but it feels so good and satisfying. I keep re-reading the notes for that week and getting a little teary-eyed. So happy and thankful that I took this challenge with you and have such wonderful memories. I can't wait to do this again, not soon but not too long either. I think each time will be a different season will be a whole new outlook everytime then. I've been using my self-timer all over the place now and because of you I love to be in the photos now, love seeing myself in a whole new way playing and interacting with our family instead of being behind the camera. I can't thank you enough for that Ali. My album is almost done a few photos to crop and then the journaling to finish up and I will post it for you to see.
My potd for project life is my lilac bushes they finally bloomed and I put some in vases around the house and it smells wonderful in here. Reminds me of your lilac's in your Monday's photos. Hope you have a wonderful day and that everyone is healthy and feeling good. Thanks from the bottom of my heart!!

I'm so nervous about my pictures! I made the 5 x 7 (4 shots on one canvas) and I made photo collages on Elements and uploaded them all to Scrapbookpictures.com It's the first time in a long time I've used Photoshop and I'm so psychotic that I forgot to do something and my pictures are going to come back all yucky...
    We shall see...

Oh your photos are beautiful together, you really are a great photographer. I received my prints through the post on Saturday. It's been a long time since I ordered prints rather than printing them at home and it felt wonderful to see my photos, especially the enlargements. I really must do that more often, I guess that's the thing with digital photography, I hardly ever get them printed. I've assembled my WITL album and just have the journaling and the front page to do. Did you follow the same design for the front page as the opening pages for each day?

Great album...I've loved doing this. My main problem with getting things done is I need to simplify and not worry about things being PERFECT...very hard for me. Quick question: How do you document pics you take on a daily basis if you don't do the life project? Like I said...I need to simplify!

This looks so great. To be clear, your turquoise and beige strips are digi papers or real adhered paper? (Either way they look great!)

I enjoyed seeing your album - makes me feel I'm on the right track LOL. I experimented with sending enlargements to Meijers as a poster print and cutting them apart b/c I didn't want the white border my printer leaves when printing 8.5 x 11 (and didn't want to wait for the mail). Results were not great, but I think I'm going to try some with borders, especially on the collage page, as I notice when I put them in the sleeves there is some overlap resulting in a border which doesn't look bad at all anyway. Didn't take many pictures day 1 and 2 so it is interesting working with what I have - embracing imperfection over here!

Just a thought, working on little embellished pieces for my baseball card protectors this week, if anyone has any examples provide links! Amping this aspect up due to lack of good pictures day 1 and 2 :-P

This just further cements in my mind what is so great about your style. I always think that for the most part, the way you document your lives will not look outdated nearly so much as many of the trendy, time/labor/stuff-intensive pages that are (and have been) popular online and in magazines. Simon and Anna will be able to share these with their grandkids and they will still look good! The patterned papers add a touch of simple beauty without detracting from the pictures or the story. Thank you for sharing your work with the rest of us and for providing a wonderful example to follow in this area!

I am so very much a newbie!!
and I'm excited, nervous and loving this project very much!
I have a silly question: when you have your pictures printed do you print: glossy, matte, pro-matte or canvas???
    Thanks in advance!

YES YES YES - perfect is totally over-rated.
Right now I am creating scrapbook pages that detail everyday stories from time to time that go into my 12x12 scrapbooks. I am actually thinking about doing some more photobooks that just celebrate our everyday life throughout the year. Even just one of those per year would be an awesome peek into your life.
