I Want To Remember
1 5 M O N T H S : ANOTHER FAVORITE PHOTO SPOT AT THE DINING ROOM TABLE
I want to remember how much noise you make when you're eating. It's this awesome "I love food" noise that sounds something like a motor going "mmmmmmmmmmmm." Grandma Susan says your Daddy used to do the same thing. Grandma Pati says he still makes those noises now and again.
I want to remember how very much you want to do everything your brother is doing. Wands, lightsabers, legos, books, balls and lots & lots of chase.
I want to remember how confident you are in how you hold yourself and the ways your body moves.
I want to remember this little dance you do when you are delighted, arms swinging back and forth as you walk.
I want to remember how when you are unsure of something you come zooming back over to me and snuggle up next to my legs.
I want to remember how rough and tumble you are...and how you get right back up and keep on going.
I want to remember how you dunk your head under the water at the
swimming pool and come up grinning.
I want to remember how much you like helping us let Lily (our dog) out in the morning. You get upset when you don't get to stand at the door, with the door open of course, when Lily goes outside.
I want to remember all the little moments of love I see between you and Simon. Amidst the chasing and the wrestling and the screeching there are a million little hugs and snuggles and gentle love. Tonight, after I helped you down from your chair at the table, you walked around the living room for a bit and then came back to the table and rested your head on Simon's leg. A short breather in your daily adventures; a nice pause. I notice these moments. I adore them.
Love, love , love this post. I wish I had done this with my older son. I will definitely be doing this for my 12 month old.

Thank you so much for these inspiring notes, Ali. I would also like to remember all of the little moments. My Anna is 20-months and has an 8-year old brother and their relationship is similar to your Anna and Simon, I think. My Anna is doing a lot of the same things as yours, in fact, I could probably almost copy your journaling and use it - especially the rough and tumble, the legos, and the delight with the arms swinging, and the snuggling when unsure, and the wrestling and love with her brother. I wish I could remember it all. It makes me tear up just thinking about it!

Oh Ali-good for doing this. My last child is graduating from High School in twelve days. By August all three will be off/back to college. I sometimes wish I would have written down just those types of words.
These written memories will be a balm to your soul someday...ummmmm.

My 2 year old does the same "mmmmmm" sounds - and has done so since the first bite of solid food. I love it! In fact I made a scrapbook page to remember. :) Thanks for sharing and reminding how little things like this may not always be remembered, so I need to make more pages about things like these instead of birthday parties and Christmas presents!

I am so glad I stumbled upon this post. Lovely lovely words. I'm not a mother yet, but am a daughter missing a mother, and I've just yesterday written about that point of view - so to read something so poignant about what a mom sees in her little one is so very heartwarming. Your daughter is sure to cherish these words.

This was such a memorable post. It makes me want to sit down and write one each for my two boys. That's the point of blogging isn't it? Inspiring others do follow in your footsteps!!! Thanks for the memories :-)

And that's why most of us scrap. To remember the little bits of daily life that would have been forgotten later. :)

I made a scrapbook about these little moments from my daughter's first year - a picture for every memory. My daughter is 2 and a half now - and people who say you will remember... you won't if you don't write them down. I love reading about all the things she used to do and if it wasn't written down, I would have already forgotten. My daughter likes looking at the scrapbook too - "There's baby Abby" - maybe we will do that when I get home today:) Thanks for reminding me:)

You are such a good and thoughtful writer. I'm feeling thankful today and you have greatly added to it. My daughter is 51, my son 48-how I wish I had a record of their lives to give them like you are doing for Simon and Anna.
