On The Road
Sitting here in the Philly airport with Tricia working on my scrapbook on the road while waiting for our flight to Athens, Greece and then on to Mykonos for a Cocoa Daisy Destinations event.
Here's a bit of documentation from today:
WAKING : Up at 3:30am (day #2 at that time) to catch a shuttle to the airport for our 7am flight to Philly
READING : The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks (finally finishing it - so interesting) and various magazines
WEARING : black leggings, black ballet flats, gray shirt-dress, dark gray wrap
CAPTURING : Playing with a Fujifilm Instax MINIcamera that Elsie posted about last week
WATCHING : Rented Man On A Wire via iTunes to watch on the plane or sometime this next week
CALLING : Chris to tell him I love him and to find out what settings I should change on my phone for international calling
REMEMBERING : How much I used to fear flying and feeling thankful that things have changed
Excited to be heading to a country I've never visited. Excited to be seeing old friends and making new ones. Excited to be teaching a new Scrapbook On The Road class.
Ready, set, go.
See you soon! Can't wait to be taking a class from you again 4 (count 'em) after the first one at ScrapBowl '06 in VA.
Don't think I'll be scrapping in the airport or anything..but trying to choose my reading and trying to remember to add some stuff to my Ipod before I leave tomorrow night.

We lived in Crete, Greece in 80-82. I am anxious to hear about your trip to Mykonos. We stopped there one day on a tour out of Athens. I just returned from 10 days in France and had made my travel journal/scrapbook and enjoyed using it so much. Have fun.

By now I am sure that you have landed safely in Greece and are already getting ready to start the cruise/classes! I used to travel 85% of the time, for the last couple of years it was international travel. I must admit while it is nice to be home MUCH more, I do miss traveling and seeing the world. Greece was one place I always wanted to go and have yet to visit!
Have an amazing time....though I know you will be working as well as playing.

So right after I read your post about your road trip, I went to check my home page on MSN and this was the top story:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/39211401/?gt1=43001
...something about skulls being found in luggage in Athens....what?
Can't wait to hear the stories..see the pictures and live vicariously through you Ali. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!!

WOW. Hope you enjoy Greece and know that you will post some awesome pictures. Please let me know how you like the Instax Mini because reminds me of all of the polaroids we used to take when I was little and would like to recapture that part of my childhood.

You will LOVE Greece - it's a great country - beautiful to look at, wonderful people, and delicious food - just go easy on the ouzo & retsina you'll almost certainly be offered if you want to keep a clear head for scrapping! Have fun! Wish I was there!

Love the The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. My son is going to University Wisconsin and it is their group read for the year. So much to think about with that book.

Love the Aegean sea. It's been a long time since I've been to Mykonos. I heard it's party central now.
Make sure you turn your roaming off when you are not checking emails etc. Use the hotel wi-fi to save. I had an international data plan from AT & T and still ended up with enormous charges because of accessing the internet. AT & T is now better with their plans, but it's still a bit confusing.

LOVE your pix, and the format for your travel journal. Brilliant as always in your perspective.
Just wanted to share that I was so inspired by your prompt a while back from your trip to Italy where you used "I want to remember..." I used that idea for a trip I took to NYC/New England to share family history with our youngest daughter. I think this is the most meaningful album I have made to date. All thanks to your perspective on journaling. Wanted you to know how much I appreciate and enjoy your blog!
