A Family Halloween

It was a very happy Halloween around here this year.

For the first time since I can remember, I had a costume too.

And so did Chris.

I went as the witch from Sleeping Beauty (it was Simon's choice). I ordered the costume from Disney.com and I have to say that it was a really great costume and one I imagine I'll wear again.

This is Simon (excuse me, Indiana) seeing Chris in his costume for the first time. He's a kid who really loves dressing up so seeing his Dad in costume was awesome.

My sister, Gabrielle and Jeffrey went as "Old McDougall has a farm" (McDougall is my maiden name).

Besides having all my family here, one of my favorite memories of this Halloween will be how excited this little girl became once she got the whole concept of trick or treating. We did one round early in the evening when it was still light out for the littlest kids, came back for dinner, and then went back out again when it was dark.

Anna definitely wanted to come along on the second outing so we put a red sweater on her and headed out. She loved it. She wanted to walk on her own and go up to doors and was running around with all wonderful excitement that really only kids can convey.

She was ready to keep going even when the bigger kids were asking to head home.

We also found out that it's true that our new neighborhood is an awesome Halloween neighborhood. Tons of kids and families out and about. Lots of holiday spirit and decorations and festivities. Hooray for Halloween!

SOMETHING NEW: Look for a brand new downloadable project class to help you document your Halloween (a chipboard minibook) coming from me very soon. I'm putting the finishing touches on the PDF and video and hope to have it posted and ready for purchase sometime today or tomorrow.

What a super fun Halloween for you. Our family does a huge church-wide event for Halloween on our church campuses (6000+ kids running around in costome). Now that my boys are older they dressed as a Muskateer and a soldier and served in the Lollipop Village handing out candy and running a game. My husband was on the traffic team all decked out in his 'traffic gear' and I drove the bus from campus to campus to parking lot picking up all the kids and their parents. I love hearing how others celebrate the holidays. What a special time for you. Oh, and I love your array of pumpkins on your porch!!

DUDE! Ali, way to get into the spirit of things. So terrific to see your whole family get into Halloween.

(After almost seven years in France, I realize that I really do miss this holiday - difficult to re-create w/o the whole community/culture behind it.)

    So cool.

I just love how you all dressed up - even the grown ups. Wonder who had the best time.....you look awesome in your costume ;o)

Indiana looks so grown up. Anna is impressive and she looks so cute - my twins (2 year old) preferred to stay at home - sneaking candy from the bowl by the entrance - much easier and not so scary. LOL!

PS - you have done a great job carving your pumpkins - love the E, great idea!

Great Photos...but, the question among parents at the local elementary school is..."How many bags of candy did you end up handing out on Halloween?" Our answer this year....eighteen.

It delights me to no end...to know somewhere out there, is another neighborhood, in another community, which totally rocks Halloween.

That's amazing Linda! We went through 5 of the Coscto bags (not sure how many that would translate to in the smaller bags). It was awesome.

My sister's friend lives in one of those awesome neighborhoods in Los Angeles -- for them, Halloween is the most expensive holiday of the year. Thirty bags of candy. Plus, five extra just in case. Over 800 kids came a'treating. Madness.

Great photos! Thanks for sharing! We had a fun weekend too...although Dad did not dress up this year and join "Cruella", disappointing to the kiddos, but still SO MUCH FUN!! An entire weekend of Halloween parties and fun!
Glad you got to share it with family!

So wonderful that everyone got involved for Halloween. Everyone looks to have had a great time, and what more can you really ask for but that? Love the costumes, the pumpkins, and most especially all of the smiles.
