Book Giveaway | The Beauty of Different by Karen Walrond

Today one person is going to receive a copy of Karen Walrond's lovely new hardcover book: The Beauty of Different.

Constantly bombarded with messages on how to think, how to feel, how to look, it can be very easy to fall into the mindset that we somehow fail as individuals, that we are not enough. But the truth is, those aspects of ourselves that make us individuals are actually the source of our own beauty, our super power. The Beauty of Different explores beauty in eight fresh ways and challenges the reader to revel in her own uniqueness. Combining beautiful imagery, portraiture, insightful commentary, essays, and interviews, this multisensory exploration of what is really beautiful provokes deeper self-discovery. Designed to connect and inspire, The Beauty of Different encourages the reader to reframe her differences, not as shortcomings, but as characteristics of distinction--maybe even superpowers.

Very simply put, this book is a wonderful combination of photos + words. It's interviews and stories addressing subjects such as adventure, individuality, spirituality, and imperfection, woven together with Karen's breathtaking photographs. It's the kind of book you can pick up anytime, read a section or a couple pages, and get inspired to tell your own stories related to the theme.

And the whole concept of different being beautiful...I'm wholeheartedly on board with that. Thank you God for different.

You can check out Karen's Beauty of Different blog here.

In addition, Karen recently came to my house and interviewed me about creativity for BlogHer's Own Your Beauty series. You read her thoughts on creativity and watch the video she created from my interview here.

Also, check out her project "Photovent 2010" - a really cool take on a photo garland. She's got a free download and instructions too.

I am stubborn and opinionated but very open minded at the same time. I take care of those that are close to me.

This sounds like a wonderful book, Ali! I love your book recommendations!
And I also wanted to say that it's really cool you like Harry Potter. :-) I watched Harry Potter 7 twice as well and love it.

I am a straightforward person and will never accept injustice. I'll fight for the truth and stand by people who are treated unfairly.

I work in a non-traditional, male dominated field and I love the difference I am able to make each and every day.

Hmmm...my characters of distinction? My freckles. I hated them growing up. My mother had beautiful porcelain skin with just the tiniest of smatterings across her nose. Mine are almost a mask covering my nose, cheeks and near my eyes. My grandmother called them angel kisses. Love her for that. Now I think of them as a highlight to my smile and I make it a point to find something to smile about every day!

I am stubborn. Don't tell me I can't do something, because I will do everything in my power to do it.

I am in love with being a stay @ home mom. I see it as nothing short of a miracle that I get to be mom to my kids. I try not to take it for granted. I love the title and embrace it fully!

I have scoliosis. My spine is shaped like a S, and I wore a back brace for many years when I was younger. Wearing a back brace and being picked on by other kids taught me to be stronger and not let it get the best of me. My back may be a mess, but I am a beautiful person because of it.

I have curly hair which I hated when I was growing up and I used to blow dry straight piece by piece (took me an hour and a half to do it!). At young adult age I started allowing my natural curl to just be. On good hair days it dries in long spiral curls. Now it's a signature of my uniqueness.

What makes me different and unique is how I see things! I can pick up on others feelings really well to the point where I would almost say I don't always see things, I feel them first. This is good, great, wonderful and weird....
