Hero Arts Blog Hop

Welcome to the 2011 Hero Arts Catalog Blog Hop!

If this is your first time here, welcome! You can read more about this site and watch a video tour here.

If you're a regular reader your might remember seeing these photos from my recent Thank You Mom post. I wanted to create a layout that showcased just the image of my Grandma Cathy and Anna because they look so much alike!

Here's a peek at the process and how I used the new Hero Arts stamps:

I started out by stamping the Classic Fabric Design (CG245) with cream paint onto kraft cardstock. The stamp measures 4.5 x 5.75.

After letting it dry I re-stamped (trying to get it close to the same spot but knowing it would not be perfect) using Versamark embossing ink. I poured Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel on top and cooked it with a heat gun. The result looks and feels similar to vintage wallpaper.

I had already printed my photos (both photos on one canvas in photoshop), rounded the top corners, and trimmed a sheet of white cardstock to give myself a border. I adhered the stamped/embossed piece right below the photos on the left side.

In the spot on the bottom right corner I trimmed a really lovely piece of Pink Paislee pattern paper. On top of that section I added a shipping tag on which I had typed "Your Great-Grandmother Cathy and you, 2010." I wish I knew the date of the photo of my Grandama - I'll probably call my Mom to get that information.

I did a straight stitch on my sewing machine all the way around and then used a zigzag stitch in between the photos and the pattern papers.

Next I used this Thank You Definition (CG268) stamp to put a light text print right on top of the shipping tag. I slipped a piece of scratch paper under the tag and stamped on top (ideally I would have stamped before stitching it to the page but that's the way it goes).

Here's what the tag looked like after stamping:

The love border is handdrawn using a new metallic pen from Faber-Castell. The butterfly is from Jenni Bowlin Studio.

Along the other edge I added three little word stickers from Cosmo Cricket.

Journaling goes around the edge of the white cardstock and says: Amazing to see the similarities here between you and your Great Grandmother Cathy. Especially the smile. Oh that smile. She would have just loved you so much Anna. She was such a cool Grandma for me. I miss her.

There's that fabulous background stamp once again!! I see that it's everyone's favourite as it is mine! Now that technique to make it look 3 dimensional sooo rocks. That's one technique that I'm adding to my to do list! Fabulous layout too!
