Around Here
Around here I'm celebrating that Anna's iron levels are finally in the normal range. She's been taking supplements for quite awhile and was released from them by the doctor on Friday. The best thing about that is that she doesn't need any more blood tests anytime soon. Taking toddler to have their blood taken multiple times is not fun for anyone.
Around here I'm wanting to wear more dresses. And get a pair of white jeans. Must be spring.
Around here I'm adding a few new products to my cart at Two Peas. Especially loving Crate Paper's new Portrait Collection.
Around here I'm wishing I lived closer to an Ikea (it's a 2-hour drive).
Around here I'm so feeling so thankful and humbled for the excitement around my Scrapbook On The Road self-paced class. Thank you.
Around here the piles you saw in my office two weeks ago have multiplied and the space on both my desk and my table seem to be getting smaller by the minute.
Around here I finished reading Mama Zen: Walking The Crooked Path of Motherhood and immediately ordered Karen's other book Hand Wash Cold: Care Instructions For An Ordinary Life. I really liked Mama Zen. It fit me, the place I'm at, and where I want to be. It's actually helped me a couple times this past week when I was close to having not-so-good-mama-moments. There were quite a few places throughout the book that really spoke to me - it's likely that I will read it again.
Around here I walked into the living room on Saturday night to find Simon sitting on the floor snuggling with Lily. It was super precious and special and not something he does often.
Around here I loved listening to Jen Lee's new Story Simple recording over at the Wish Studio. "Rainbow. Rainbow." I love that.
Around here Adele's new album 21 is on repeat.
Your dress looks great, love the photo too. I was looking for some nicer maternity clothes and headed to a pricey store. Ended up trying on a button up dress in a similar style to what you are wearing (obviously maternity though!) but it didn't quite fit right. There is something fun about dresses.
We turn trips to Ikea into a day trip. Arrive when they open, shop, eat lunch (meatballs, yum!), shop a little more later if we can and then head home. Perfect nap on the way home for my son.

Love, love that Crate paper! Thanks for sharing it!
I feel ya...my IKEA is 1 1/2 hours away, which is probably a good thing. I'm less likely to spend all my money there. :-)
So glad to hear that Anna is doing well. She's so precious - love seeing her pics! (As a mommy of 2 boys I especially enjoy the fun girly clothes!)

Ali, I've been following your blog for almost two years now and last week our son, two, was diagnosed with autism. Thanks to your blog, and your willingness to share your stories, it helped me not to panic about the diagnosis but rather to feel hopeful. I'm really hoping your might consider writing an update in your blog about Simon's autism, and what early inverventions you have tried? I've read some earlier posts in the archives, and have enjoyed reading the recent posts about Simon's school work which was very encouraging. Thanks, Debbie, South Australia.

I went to IKEA yesterday and had a ball. Spent 4 hours there all by myself. Sadly it if 2 hours away for me as well, but it was so worth it. I came home all inspired.

Around here, I'm trying to save as many pictures as possible.
Around here, we got water in the basement.
Around here, I'm trying to save as many paintings and scrapbooking pages as possible.
Around here, I'm so thankful for YOU (yeah, you, Ali!) because when I was following your Yesterday and Today's class, last year, I took the time to scan a picture of me on the first page of the Toronto Sun.
Around here, this photo of me on the first page of the Toronto Sun faded away with the water...
Around here, we are sad about the loss, but happy about the new beginning with less things to carry with us.

So happy to hear about Anna!! I love that dress on you, great color and those boots too. Love how you take self-timer photos of yourself. With the kids around I'd be afraid to wear white pants, lol.
I don't even know where an Ikea store is by me but wish we had one close by. Have a good week.

I am so glad to hear that about Anna's iron. I had the same issues.

I am jealous of the green grass...and the lack of several clothing layers and winter coats.

Hi Ali: Love the look, you are rockin the dress!! Glad Anna's levels are up..my daughter has the same, very low iron always..she is anaphylatic for milk protein since newborn when we found out the hard way calling 911 for a 5month old and adrenaline shot to the leg etc.. and she has been poked and prodded alot!! it is torture..i long for the day when it is over..but I tell myself there is always someone who has it worse..too many little ones with leukemia and cancer..i am blessed with my healthy girl!!
Cant wait for week in the life!!

J Jill has some new white ankle jeans.
Sigh of relief I'm sure re no more blood work. It's hard when a child 'gets' what's coming
Weird, but I can still pass out having blood drawn tho in my head I'm not afraid. I fell out of the chair once at my dr. and now they know to lay me down and watch. I keep talking so they can tell I'm not about to leave the table. :)

I love it when you write posts like this, with the repeated words for each sentence. I've taken inspiration from that for the journaling on a few of my scrapbook layouts, and I really like it. It helps the words come easier sometimes. So thanks. :)
I actually have an IKEA in my city (Houston) - but it's still an hour's drive time!
And I'm so glad to hear that Anna is done with her blood tests. I know exactly how hard that is - my kids are in a study for kids on the Autism spectrum, with L-methylfolate. Part of the study protocol is routine blood tests. I totally agree with you, not fun for anybody, but especially for the toddler who doesn't even really understand what's going on.

Hi Ali
I've just come across your blog - lovely. My son was just diagnosed with low iron so I was really interested in this post of yours. I started him on iron supps two days ago and he spat it out straight away. Did you manage to find a supplement that your toddler tolerated?
Hi Louise - we put the iron supplement into her juice and she drank it just like usual.
