The Weekend Without Photos
My camera took the weekend off - for no particular reason other than I just didn't feel like taking pictures (which usually means I'm focused on other things).
Things I want to remember:
- Having friends over for dinner on Saturday night. Anna yelling "friends, friends, friends" as they pulled into our driveway. Being so happy to see their son looking bright eyed and smiling (he also has special needs of a different sort). Eating awesome guacamole (via Martha's Speedy Guacamole).
- Simon playing with a measuring tape in the kitchen and measuring everything in sight.
- Taking Anna to Target and listening to her tell me to "put it in the cart" every time she saw something she wanted - which was often.
- Anna going from silly-happy-2-year-old to clingy-whiny-2-year-old in the blink of an eye. Man she was a handful this weekend.
- Chris and Simon going to the golf course that is right around the corner from our house and putting and hitting balls. I am ever so hopeful that this may be a sport he enjoys (without holding my breath). Also driving home with Anna from Target and seeing the two of them kicking the soccer ball in the cul-de-sac.
- Cooking lasagna in the crockpot for Sunday night dinner. Recipe via Stephanie at Crockpot 365. Simon eating his whole portion (hooray). Anna was super happy to eat the simple salad.
- Making at least three trips to the grocery store over the course of the weekend (I'm usually a once-a-week visitor).
- Chris and I both falling asleep on the couch right after starting a movie on Saturday night after our friends went home.
- Chris and the kids parroting the phrase "relax, man, relax" over and over again.
- Remembering how efficient and productive I become at cleaning when we have people coming over for dinner.
- Wanting to have people come over more often. Loving the chaos, the preparation, the life that comes from connecting with others around the kitchen table.
- Simon reminding me, again, that he does not have school on Monday.
Lovely list - sharing your enjoyment of focusing on what's important and being in what's happening right now. Sometimes the camera makes us an observer, rather than a participant...

I love your weekend with no lens just as much as with the lens. Thank you for still sharing how your weekend went. I love hearing about Simon eating good and playing golf. My son plays golf too and his grandpa ( my dad ) is a huge golfer and really hopes Sam will take after him. How funny Miss Anna was for you this weekend, she is growing up so fast. Have a wonderful week Ali.

Ali even without a camera and photo's your words are so descriptive and warmly written that I feel I too was sitting around the dinner table involved in the Saturday night dinner. Thank you for your style and the honest way in which you go about your day to day. I am truly blessed to be able to share this with you through your blog. Thank you.

Love it Ali! My husband is on a trip and he took the camera with him. I am staying at home with my twin toddlers and there are so many things I want to remember from this past weekend!! Thanks for inspiring me on how to do so.

We did this a couple of weeks ago, I was tired of never seeing any of our friends so I sent some spur of the moment texts and fm messages. Our house was full of friends and food, the best! I need to have gatherings once a week to be inspired to keep the house up!

Thanks for the link to Crockpot 365. I was looking at it last night. I have a crock pot and just haven't been able to get the hang of it. I'm going to try the Chicken Parm tonight. Happy Monday!

Excellent weekend - we had my sister and her family ( my niece is just 3, and I so love this age! ). We realized it had been almost 3 months since we'd had company - wow, I had to work to whip the house into shape. Have to make that happen more often. I've never tried the crockpot, but you've inspired me - my daughter has sports stuff sometimes 6 nights/week. Gotta cut down on the take-out.

Love that lasagne recipe, thanks for sharing. Its super helpful on tball nights! Also, can you tell me what online storage company you switched to since Mozy went up on prices. I'm with Mozy and need to switch. I looked all over you site to try and find who you mentioned back in Jan and couldn't find it. Thanks in advance!
Hi Kristi - I'm either going to go with Backblaze or Crashplan (waiting until my contract is up with Mozy).

Golf.
Funny you should say that.
Just the other day I learned that an autistic boy I had been teacher aide to is excelling at golf. He loves it, he's good at it, it suits him - solo sport, precision, concentration almost to the point of fixation. And now it turns out he is representing our region at a national competition for junior golfers and captaining the team. He is 11 years old. It could be that golf becomes Simon's thing - wouldn't that be so great. I see him with his Dad and grandfathers and uncles, bonding, doing the man thing (not to be sexist about golf or anything) growing up.
Or it might be something fun they do together for a while and it doesn't take off.
I tell you this story just to echo the possibility.
Happy Day
Thank you Sarah - golf is definitely loved on both sides of our family. I can see it too :).

I love these times when you can just focus on the moment without worrying about getting a shot of it. Sounds like a fun, tiring, but memorable weekend. hope you enjoy Simon's monday off of school. Our spring break is this Thurs-Mon. We have some fun things -as well as some much needed cleaning planned for those days off.

I agree with what's being said........ I LOVE YOUR WEEKEND LENS but equally I loved reading about your weekend and picturing you and your family doing things....thanks for sharing....it's good sometimes to just be in the moment. Today I was at the beach and didn't take the camera down (it was a little rainy-ish) but just decided to be in the moment (it was hard) but I enjoyed having both my hands to play noughts and crosses on the sand with my 7 year old and pick up shells with my 5 year old. I AM FINDING WITH MY PROJECT LIFE THAT I AM FILLING IT MORE AND MORE WITH MY THOUGHTS AND NOT ALL PICTURES. WHILE I LOVE PICS, THE THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS TAKE MORE DEPTH WHEN THERE IS NO PICTURE

WOAH! I just hit publish on my blog of all the things I want to remember at this very moment. Then I clicked on your blog to see what you were up to and I saw a pretty similar post.
Although, yours was short and precise, and mine was more of a ramble!!!
