06 | 24 | 2011 friday afternoon

LATE FRIDAY AFTERNOON | Books on a blanket in the backyard while waiting for Chris to come home from work. Kids finding that happy medium between checking out the books and running in circles through the grass.

friday date night

LATER FRIDAY EVENING | Chris and I had our first bike-riding date. We rode our bikes across town for dinner at a Chinese restaurant. Felt super thankful that we live in a bike-friendly town and for awesome weather. Can't wait to do it again.

Erin's Party

SATURDAY EARLY AFTERNOON | Taking photos at a friend's party.

SATURDAY AFTERNOON | The arrival of Grandma. The constant chatter from both kids telling her all their favorite stories they've been saving up since her last visit. I swear it starts the minute she arrives and doesn't stop until she packs up her things to head to her next destination. Lately they've punctuated her visits with serious disappointment when she has to go home. It's never long enough.

SATURDAY EARLY EVENING | Hello Sleeping Beauty. I think she might end up liking costumes just as much as Simon.

waiting

SATURDAY EARLY EVENING | Waiting on the BBQ and finally moving chairs and a small table out to the front of the house.

On Sunday I took just a couple photos, but here's what I want to remember: special breakfast pancakes with Gary & Susan, Chris' BBQ attempt #2 for summer 2011, swimming with Simon at the pool and wearing my goggles and having so much fun diving for toys with him, our hodge-podge dinner in the backyard (grilled cheese, leftover Chinese, nachos, etc), watching Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules as our Sunday night movie and loving how much we all enjoyed it, root beer floats, Chris and Simon jumping on the small trampolines, feeling so totally at home.

These are just super and precious Ali. How fun to live where you can have a bike date with your loved one. I love all the action photos of sweet Anna and all her things. Happy days when grandma comes, so lucky for all of you for the shared time. Thanks Ali.

Do you keep your small trampolines outside all the time? We have an indoor one for our son. We'd like an outdoor one but house insurance company won't allow it. I wonder if small ones would work?

We just got them last week but plan to put them in the garage at night (on days we know it's going to rain at night). The kids have had fun with them so far.

Sounds and looks lovely. My eye was drawn to the Thomas book on the rug as that's where my weekend and week focus is. Planning a Thomas themed 3rd birthday party for my son.

I felt inspired by you recently and have started doing this at my home. And, I love hodge-podge dinners. They happen quite frequenlty here in the summer.

Ali, Anna is so beautiful! I am partial to that name as well since my Mom was a Anna also...I love the book idea. In fact I have a 20 month old great niece who I visited this week end and brought her a book titled "I love you this much" she carried it around and we all had her on our lap to read the book...She loved it! Focus on family time this weekend also which I am getting ready to journal since we had the family clan together...thank for sharing

    hugs

LOVE your Weekend Lens! Love that shot of Anna on the walkway with her crown and belly-button sticking out! Love your gorgeous front porch. My 8-year old LOVES Rodrick Rules too! We have seen it umpteen times already. We laugh and laugh together. Thank you for inspiring me so much!

Ali, it always amazes me how generous you are with all the little peeks into your daily life, thank you for that:o) Here in Nova Scotia we have a vegetable dish called "hodgepodge"! Its when our gardens are ready with new string beans, baby carrots, new peas, & new baby potatoes, steamed together & then smothered in milk & a little butter... almost as good as beet greens!!! Happy Day from the other coast!

My mom and I were just talking yesterday about how we'd like to sell our houses and move to Seattle. we had this conversation as we were pulling up to the IKEA in Phoenix and the temperature in the car said it was 114. If I tried to have a bike date with my hubby we'd both end up in the ER lol!
I love the little sippy cup on the steps of your home in the last picture :)
    Hugs,
    Gretchen

How did you take that shot of yourself holding the heart against the sun? That is awesome! And shot of the blanket and toes I suspect was just taken from waist length?

Hi Sharon - are you talking about the sand dollar? It had a small hole in it so I just held it up to the sun (so that I could see the rays coming through) and then hit the button...one handed camera work :). And yes, looking down at the blanket was shot from the waist.

First time stopping by, and I thought I'd mention your photos are great!

I agree with Renee, I love the porch, it's a must on my next home.
