I thought I was exceptional because I am an engineer who loves crafts - cross stitching, floral arranging, scrapbooking.
Several weeks ago, it occurred to me that most women engineers whom I know are just as crafty!
The general engineering stereotype: takes things apart and puts them back together. I think this is the MALE version.
I think the female engineering stereotype should be: follows patterns and creates artwork.

I think being a mom is something exceptional and I am a mom so I guess I am exceptional, lol! I don't think of myself of exceptional though, as most moms I think. They just try to do the best they can for their families. I love your blog Ali! You inspire so many of us to just tell the story, capture the memory; whether it's in photo or word or a combination of either. Just do it and to not leave ourselves out of the story as well! I'm so guilty of this. My mom was also. I missed her in pictures. She was behind the camera. She died in 1977 when I was eighteen, so I dont' have a lot of pictures of her; I wish I did. I'm trying hard to include myself in the story.

I think I´m special in a lot of ways...truely, I think most people are, the hard thing is to be able to admit it. exceptional might not be the correct word - but I just went back to work after being home with my children for 4 years - and as of day 3 I'm surviving ... yeah to all the moms out there who make the choice to stay home with their kids - toughest job I ever had ... and I'm a social worker!

I am special and exceptional simply because God created me to be me! As He did all you special and exceptional people out there! And one of the bests gifts He has given us are our families, who shape so much of who we are - what a privilege to be able to record our lives together! I'm learning to appreciate more and more through this project just how important and precious it is to be able to take care of my family every day.

Something special about me is my high level of empathy. It's embarrasing when watching that foldgers commercial when the son comes home from college (gets me every time). But in terms of friendship and family, an empathetic ear and heart is priceless.
