AE | The Thanksgiving Lens
Just wanted to share a couple of my favorite photos from this past holiday weekend.
I'm in the middle of putting my Project Life pages together for last week and doing all kinds of things behind the scenes for December Daily (including eight days of giveaways beginning on December 1). If you purchased a December Daily kit through Studio Calico the message board is now open. Make sure to sign in with your user name and then you should see it as an option in the list of message boards.
I didn't take any food photos this year. The food was fabulous and I was just enjoying laying down the camera for a bit.
I did manage to get lots of shots of this awesome group of kids. It's so cool and I'm so thankful that my kids get to spend time with cousins throughout the year (definitely wish we lived closer). Love watching the connections between them grow over the years.
The goofy bunch of boys are all about legos right now. Cristina (my cousin's wife) picked up the Lego Creationary game which is really cool - I think it might be just the thing to encourage Simon to build beyond what he sees in the Lego instruction manuals. They also played lots of Angry Birds on the various ipads and iphones that were readily available.
The two girls, Anna and Lucy, are quite the pair. Partners in crime, co-conspirators, great pretenders. They immediately pair up and disappear until something between them heads south (usually that one or the other wants the other one to do something). I love, love, love watching them together.
So grateful for extended family and the love they show.
Funny. I took a photo of all the cousins looking at a laptop on my Thanksgiving post too! I guess it's a sign of the times. It's what kids these days do. ;)

Playing with cousins is the best thing in the world. I remember it from my childhood and I love to watch my kids in those relations that carry us through life and changes!!!

Cousins are great. I'm not sure if my favorite picture is the Life game (love your point of view!) or Lucy in the doorway, sticking out her tongue, with Anna in the background! Thanks for sharing.

Hi Ali! I was wondering what setting you use on your camera to take photos indoors? Your's look great! I generally don't like taking photos indoors because they come out too bright or not bright enough. I also have a SLR. Thanks!
Hi - it depends. I often will increase the ISO to see if that will make a difference - sometimes up to 1200 and even much higher. A lot of it is messing around - trying one thing and then looking at the back before adjusting it higher or lower. The one of the boys in front of the computer was taken with my iphone.

LOVE that first shot and a similar one I saw you post earlier. Are you suspended from the ceiling? LOL What lens do you use? I love your photos are am looking to get a new lens or two this year.
Thanks! I'm looking to get a wider lens, so this is good to know. Just such a fun shot. :D
Hi Jamie - I use a 24-70 and it is awesome at getting really wide shots. I'm just standing next to the table with the lens about 1/2 open.
Ali,
I currently have the Canon Rebel xTi and want to upgrade my equipment, as I've been so disappointed with my pictures (especially indoor photos-the 50mm is too much of a zoom for me inside). I have the standard lens' that came with it (18-55 and zoom) and the 50mm f/1.8. Curious if you would recommend upgrading to 7D or get the Canon 24-70L lens as a beginning step? I'm shooting soley to caputure family moments. Thanks for any advice!

Love all the kids at your Thanksgiving celebration! When I was growing up it was like that. My 2 cousins and I are all born the same year, so we did everything together. Taylor has 2 cousins on my mother's side that are close to his age so I'm very excited for next year when he'll be able to play with them at family functions. :)

Interestingly enough, Lucy is almost more of a mini-you than Anna is.

Love all your photos! I tried to access the DD message board on SC and it is not showing anywhere when I log in. Do you know if it is up and running or will it not show till Dec 1st?
Ooops I just realized I was signing in under the wrong login ID. Looking forward to reading up on DD! Can't wait for tomorrow to start on my book:)

Just finished Storyology and wanted to say thank you. I hated writing in school and college, but always got excellent grades. I thought it took too much time to get everything organized and rewritten (sometimes 3 or 4 times). It took this class to show me I was just making it WAY too hard! The prompts helped me put everything in perspective... and before I knew it my hand was cramping because I didn't want to stop writing. Thanks for the encouragement and keep doing what you do!
Awesome feedback Cheryl - thank you!

Great shots!! I think that will be my next lens investment something in that 24 to 28-70mm. I love my 50mm!! I use that 99% of the time. My Tamron 18-270 not as often. I am glad you had a great Thanksgiving. You are very lucky to have such a great extended family. At my house it is just my hubby, my kids and myself. Apparently that is what happens when you marry someone your mother doesn't approve of.

I took cousin photos this weekend too. We are military and move around a lot, but there are several cousins we've managed to vacation with and/or spend holidays with over the years. They are all teenagers now, but we started when they were little. They are all very good friends and thrilled to see each other whenever they can.
I think it is the memories we make when we are all together that matter and keeps the bond between the cousins strong, esp during the times when we cannot get together. Hey, I think I just thought of a LO, complete with journaling :)

We don't have enough cousins in this family and they don't live close enough, but we do love them when we see them. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!
