A Day In The Life | Documenting Today

Thursday With Anna
From February 2010.

Happy Wednesday!

Here's my goals for today as I document A Day In The Life:

1. Take a bunch of photos. I feel like I've slacked off a lately. Some of my favorite photos have come from the times when I've been consciously documenting our days (such as during Week In The Life). I'm thinking I'll probably do a combination of iPhone and DSLR with the intent to create a "picture story" (via Henri Cartier-Bresson) of my day. I'm hoping to get some good use out of the wireless remote I recently purchased for my bigger camera.

2. Really capture a written look at the basic everyday details (times, places, events) combined with observations, thoughts and gratitudes of life right now.

I'm planning to add my content to my Project Life album. I created an 8.5x11 layered template for photos that I'm going to pair that with the Daily Sheets (no need to re-write or type all that content over again).

No matter what time you come across this post today (or in the days to come), it's not to late to do this on your own. There's never a perfect day for this project. Maybe you do it for half the day or tomorrow or the next day or next week. You don't have to add it to Project Life. Maybe at the end of the day you look back and see five stories you want to tell. Maybe just one. Maybe you'll create a minibook of your day or a single layout. Or maybe you will post on your blog and capture the content with words and photos online.

Whatever you do, it counts.

I'm doing this today because I need to see, via words and photos, where we are (I am) right now. I need to be reminded of all that is good and loving even in the midst of a major life transition. I've learned over the years that these sorts of projects have a way of bringing that all to the surface and it helps me see the areas I may need/want to make adjustments in daily routines.

To help celebrate today, and encourage you along the way, I designed a digital freebie for you. It includes two PNG files (one 4x6 and one 3x4) and two Silhouette Studio files. For more information on working with digital files check out my links for Getting Started With Digital Scrapbooking.

Have fun today. No rules. No stress.

I did forget this was happening until 8:45, but am happily snapping away now on what is a fairly unusual day in my life, but still a part of my story that it will be good to preserve as very few people in my life see the days like this when I am away on work travel.

This is awesome! This is so doable for me! I have always loved the week in the life concept, but have never finished a whole week yet! I am thinking that an album of day in the life at various times maybe just what I need! Thank you so much for the inspiration Ali!

Have fun today Ali. You are going to love that new remote. I purchased one of those before we went to Disney World last September and love it. I like it because there is no delay with it (vs. using the self timer and jumping back in the picture). Makes capturing the right moment a whole lot easier. Must do this sometime very soon myself. Hope that God shines his light on you today and lifts you up.

I think I will do this Saturday, to document a weekend, and add as an insert into my Project Life album. I think you make an excellent point about looking around in the midst of major life changes/challenges, which we have also experienced this last week around here.... Thank you for the wonderful downloads too! I am just getting into digital elements and I love your offerings on designer digitals!

Thanks for the freebie. Do you use the remote switch with this or just the remote by itself? Ali, pat yourself on the back for the love and joy you bring your family and all of us, even when it is a time of difficulty. You truly shine and light up the world around you!!!!

i saw your mention of this just the other day and decided that i was going to document an afternoon visit to the hospital. not something we do every day, but a place we visit often--a few times a month--seeing various specialists and such. i approached the 3 hour visit with a play-by-play approach. http://throughtrialsiambeingpurified.blogspot.com/2012/02/afternoon-at-childrens-hospital.html

I have a daycare in my home, so thought I would do this and make a little book for each family. Just to give them a really good glimpse into our day. Haven't been excited about a project for awhile, Thanks.
