For The Weekend | Almac Supremo Margarita

Part of my summer manifesto includes making three new drinks.

This one isn't new but it's my current favorite - made even more my favorite because it comes from my parents (and I love that when I read it I can hear my Dad's voice). I shared it last month on Facebook but wanted to include it here so I can easily access it again in the future.

Do you have a favorite summer drink I could add to my list to try? I just saw a watermelon mojito recipe in Everyday Food last night that would accomplish two things from my summer manifesto (three new drinks + lots of watermelon).

Hope you have a great weekend!

ALMAC SUPREMO MARGARITA

Basic Quantities to make one serving (one serving = one pitcher // two glasses):

  • 3 oz. good tequila

  • 2 oz. fresh squeezed lime juice - when you pick out the limes, go for the soft ones

  • 1 oz. simple syrup - to make simple syrup - mix 1 cup water and one cup of sugar in small sauce pan and bring to a boil until liquid is clear - then chill. Usually I do a couple of cups each and save left over in refrigerator for next event. After liquid turns clear then cool it - best to make ahead of time.

  • 1/4-1/2 oz. orange liquor (we used Cointreau)

Triple above ingredients and mix all in pitcher or blender 3/4 full of ice - shake and pour over ice for "on the rocks" or blend and put in a martini glass for "blended." Your Mama and I prefer "on the rocks."

Rim your glass with mixture of one tablespoon of kosher salt and one teaspoon of sugar by placing the mixture on a plate. Rim the glass with a wedge of lime and dip glass in mixture of salt/sugar (it helps to do this prior to pouring your potion in the glass).

5 stars *****

Just tried a pomegranate martini when off last week. Made with Palm pomegranate juice and orange flavored voda shaken over ice, strained and served with a sugared rim glass (optional) and orange slice.

Also, love Sangria. Will Send you the recipes for both red and white.

I discovered my favorite summer drink on the blog Dinner: A Love Story last summer (great website too!). Pack a tall glass with ice. PACK. Then add about an inch of dark rum, and fill the rest with Ginger Beer (had never had before but now see everywhere). Squeeze half a lime and stir. So refreshing!

I made Nojitos just the other day. (http://www.skinnytaste.com/2007/07/skinny-beverages.html). I don´t drink alcohol, but I love mint and lime! It was SO good! (but I vote no to the Sprite Zero, it was just to sweet, and sugar is not really necessary)

    Hi Ali,
I just made a pink lemonade last week. Yummy, non alcoholic, but really refreshing.
