One Little Word 2013
One Little Word necklace from Lisa Leonard.
My word for 2013 is open.
Last year I had a great story about how my word came to me. This year it was more of a whisper and to be honest I'm not really sure what it means for me right now, or what it will end up meaning for me 12-months from now. And I'm okay with that.
Open is an attitude and an approach. It's a reminder to live wholeheartedly, to enter the ring, to live the length and the width. It's how I want to tackle this year.
I love that open is an action & a re-action. I can act with an open heart; I can re-act with an open heart.
I want to be open to it all - the amazing and the challenging. Wide open.
Are you considering selecting a word for yourself (or letting one find you)? There's no right or wrong. The main thing to remember is that this is your word. It's not for your child, parent, partner, spouse, sister, etc.
And what do you do with this one little word?
You live with it. You invite it into you life. You let it speak to you. You might even follow where it leads. There are so many possibilities.
I'd love to read what word you've chosen or are considering for 2013. In the comments feel free to simply leave your word as your comment or write a bit about why you are choosing this word. In a couple days I'll combine all the words into a single post - super inspiring to see all the words in one place.
If you’re new to the concept of One Little Word, you can read some of my previous posts here: 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.

ONE LITTLE WORD WORKSHOP
Registration is open for 2013 and you're invited to join the journey.
Each month you'll receive a prompt with a simple creative, writing, or photography project and a gentle reminder to check back in with your word. By the end of the year you'll have compiled the contents of an 8.5x11 album that documents, defines, celebrates and generally makes your word more visible. Workshop materials include printable elements, full-color PDF handouts, and video presentations.
People have been asking me if you have to be a scrapbooker for this class. My answer is no. Even though we are making an album it's really more of a journaling/record keeping/thinking/exploring project. I'm excited to see how people interpret the prompts and make them meaningful for their own lives.
This is not complicated and it's not time-consuming. It's simply a way we can come together to share our experience with our words throughout the course of the year.
The One Little Word classroom opens on January 1, 2013.
I will take my journey in 2013 with CULTIVATE.

My OLW is LIVE. I just want to live a better life...as a better wife, mother, teacher, friend, and just LIVE a better me! I also had a friend pass away recently and her motto was "we chose to fight and LIVE". I want to live the life she would want me to LIVE!

Changed my mind. My word is source! Recognizing I am the source and author of my life and that God is the ultimate source of all. Source as deep intention and purpose. Source as a reference point. Take care of myself to maintain my source- the source of my energy and power. The beginning. The seed I will grow I nourish.

My words for previous years were shine, create and focus. I'm choosing the word Make for 2013. Make it happen...make a difference...make art...make time for myself...make a more organized home...make healthier dinners...make a wish. Each month I'm going to pick one aspect of the word to focus on.
Thanks again for the inspiration! I really love reading all the different words...and the stories behind them.
I love this!!!

Less. I feel like I have enough of everything--but perhaps too much of some things. I want less complaining, less ungratefulness, less negativity, etc. I hope by using the negative word (instead of "more") I will really focus on getting rid of the things in my life that aren't good for me, leaving the healthy things. Less. I like it already.

my OLW is "speak" as in speak up, speak out, speak softly Do not always Speak, speak kindly, etc.
Funny how our words find us!

Great minds think alike, Ali! When I started thinking about my OLW for 2013, many thoughts came to mind. The one word that has stuck is OPEN. For me, open is being more receptive, open-minded, less closed off.

i'm wondering between cadence, tempo- pacing...something like that. I've got flourish and evolve under my belt-- loved each of them. can't wait to do the class.. did it in 2011 and missed it last year alotho i kept it first of mind many times. Would like some consistency to my life now that so mucj new great stuff had happened.

My word this year is GROW. I want to grow as an independent person, I almost chose learn, but decided to incorporate learn within grow, as by learning I will grow! I am undertaking new studies (30years after leaving school), have moved into my own house & started a vege garden, am learning to manage my own finances. I am looking forward to a challenging year, & I know my word will help me focus on what I need! Thanks Ali for helping on this journey!

peace. I'm going to commit to the word peace. Attempt to weave the pieces & parts of my life journey into a more peace driven existence. Attempt to quiet myself, to listen along the way. Enjoy more!...peace it is!

My word for 2013 is grow. My first grandchild, Violet, was born in November and that makes me think of "they grow up so fast!" I also like:
How does your garden grow?
Grow old along with me.
Grow deep roots
Love grows
Growing old is not for sissies
Grow stronger every day
Grow where you're planted
I chose the same. I am a gardener also, so I like the mixture of nurturing and personal development.

well...when I first discovered this One Little Word class through Kim Klassen...I thought 'change' would be my word...and then I decided to use Improve. Focus...sounds great also but I have to go with Improve because I have so many things that need to be focused on that I truly know what really needs to happen is a lot of improvements first...improve on my organizational techniques, improve on my photography, improve my blog, improve my job situation...too much to improve and therefore I know I won't be be able to truly focus...so 'IMPROVE' will be it for me. So...off to register. Yeah!!!

JOY/JOYFUL chose me a couple of months ago. I've been preparing for it by focusing on the flip side of that coin, GRATITUDE/GRATEFUL since November.
Amazing stuff packaged up in these little words.

My word is deep. Not entirely sure where it will take me, but it seems to have chosen me this year. Looking forward to the journey.
