One Little Word 2013

One Little Word necklace from Lisa Leonard.

My word for 2013 is open.

Last year I had a great story about how my word came to me. This year it was more of a whisper and to be honest I'm not really sure what it means for me right now, or what it will end up meaning for me 12-months from now. And I'm okay with that.

Open is an attitude and an approach. It's a reminder to live wholeheartedly, to enter the ring, to live the length and the width. It's how I want to tackle this year.

I love that open is an action & a re-action. I can act with an open heart; I can re-act with an open heart.

I want to be open to it all - the amazing and the challenging. Wide open.

Are you considering selecting a word for yourself (or letting one find you)? There's no right or wrong. The main thing to remember is that this is your word. It's not for your child, parent, partner, spouse, sister, etc.

And what do you do with this one little word?

You live with it. You invite it into you life. You let it speak to you. You might even follow where it leads. There are so many possibilities.

I'd love to read what word you've chosen or are considering for 2013. In the comments feel free to simply leave your word as your comment or write a bit about why you are choosing this word. In a couple days I'll combine all the words into a single post - super inspiring to see all the words in one place.

If you’re new to the concept of One Little Word, you can read some of my previous posts here: 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.

ONE LITTLE WORD WORKSHOP

Registration is open for 2013 and you're invited to join the journey.

Each month you'll receive a prompt with a simple creative, writing, or photography project and a gentle reminder to check back in with your word. By the end of the year you'll have compiled the contents of an 8.5x11 album that documents, defines, celebrates and generally makes your word more visible. Workshop materials include printable elements, full-color PDF handouts, and video presentations.

People have been asking me if you have to be a scrapbooker for this class. My answer is no. Even though we are making an album it's really more of a journaling/record keeping/thinking/exploring project. I'm excited to see how people interpret the prompts and make them meaningful for their own lives.

This is not complicated and it's not time-consuming. It's simply a way we  can come together to share our experience with our words throughout the  course of the year.

The One Little Word classroom opens on January 1, 2013.

My word is fierce. Last year, it was refresh ... and it was a resonant, meaningful, restorative year with this intention clearly in mind, so I was sure to think about it for this year, too. This fierce is the alive, bold, courageous, "just give it a go" kind of fierce ... to be awake to living, laughing, loving with a fierce, strong, full-on energy. No more tentative for this year -- that's over. And while it was right for then, this is now ... and it's gonna be fierce!

I am still working this one over....it is either BE or DO. I selected DO last year after hearing a Steven Curtis Chapman song EVERY TIME I got in my car...."do every little thing that you do to the glory of the one who made you".....this year both words are speaking to me, but for different reasons. Hopefully one will grab me by midnight!!:)

My One Little Word is Embrace Possibilities. 2012 was a life changing year, and I realized that I need to enjoy the ride more and keep my mind and heart open to the things that are out there to experience.

Last year, my word was CARE because I needed to take care of myself, my family, my creativity. It served me well.

This year, I've chosen the word HOPE. It just came to me without a story or a purpose. I like that it's positive and forward looking.

My word for 2013 is SHINE. It comes from this quote:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
    ― Marianne Williamson

As I find myself without a man for the first time in my entire adult life, I need a word to help me move forward and face the challenges of solo-ness. My one little word is BRAVE.

My word for 2013 is Adapt. Many changes are starting in my life now and I have to remind myself to move forward and adapt to it all with courage and grace :)

    Joshua 1:9

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

My word for 2013 has been rattling around in my bones, loud enough to know it was coming but quietly waiting to be heard. I tried on several for size when suddenly the word RELEASE floated through my mind. And it's perfect. Release fear. Release my creativity out into the world. Release old grudges, older insecurities. Just ... release.
    I feel calmer already. :)

My word is CREATE. Not so much as "create" in the artistic form (which I do need to do...lol), but create more time for loved ones, create more memories, create more joy, create more life.

    My word is value.

It just came to me. Don't know how ? But I would say this word means to me what I value the most should always be first on my list. My beliefs and thoughts have value. Thank you for inspiring me.

My word this year is "Home". I didn't know why it came to me until I read this Eckardt Tolle quote:
    h
"Peace comes from being aligned with the present moment. Wherever you are, you feel that you are home—because you are home."
    — Eckhart Tolle
Maybe I'm finally finding my peace.

My OLW for 2012 was fiat, and it was with me all year.
I was thinking about my OLW fo 2013, and nothing was really jumping out at me.
I was talking to a very dear friend of mine about it, and she had the overwhelming feeling that my word should be THRIVE. I'm not sure where it will be taking me this year, but I know that I am about to find out!

my OLW is ACCEPT! it's always been something that i've struggled with from time to time, but i feel like i'm in a better place personally to ACCEPT things, people, and situations around for what they ARE and what they are NOT. i just need to keep this word at the forefront of my mind and try to live it everyday that i wake=up, so that might be difficult at times, but i'm ready for it. good luck with yours this year!
