December Daily™ 2013 | Day Eight

Welcome to December Daily™ 2013 | Day Eight.

The snowfall that came down last Thursday night is still here which is so crazy for us. On the rare occasions we have snow it's usually gone within a day or two. This year the temperatures have been so low (like -9 Fahrenheit) that there has been almost no melting of the snow.

That means that school will likely be closed for both kids on Monday. Fun for them, challenging for parents who need to get to work (whether at home or out of the house).

Thankful for a warm house, thankful for a fireplace, thankful for food in the fridge, thankful for separate rooms for the kids when they need to be away from each other (!!!), thankful for bringing out my big camera and remembering to use it.

Here's a look at Day Eight:

This one is a two-page spread + a second pocket page that I cut in half and added on top of the second page to accommodate 4x6 photos of their letters (you can see this better below).

The star transparency and the "celebrate" words are from Websters Pages. The Santa is chipboard from Teresa Collins.

I added Hello Santa word art from my Hello Christmas digital set to the photo of them sitting at the table working on their letters.

I used red-line tape to actually stick the two page protectors together - one strip close to the outside edge and one strip close to the seam of the pocket. Can't really even tell it's there. The reason I chose to do that was because without it secured to the other page it was sliding around too much and this secured it in place.

Turning the page reveals two more 3x4 pockets, including the 3x4 journal card for telling today's story.

I added an index tab to the top of the cut page protector and slipped the "dear santa" (from pattern paper in the Studio Calico kit) inside.

Yikes thats cold! I love your use of Avery tabs, they are on my list of products to try. Never thought to secure the page protector like you did - I have been so frustrated with how it sits in the past I have removed it and started the next page from scratch!

Beautiful pages Ali. I need to get me some of those tabs I think. So very cute. Totally loving checking in with your album progress each night.

What fabulous timing, I've spent the last few hours trying to incorporate extra stuff for my Day 6. Your idea to tape the 4x6 pocket is perfect. Thank you so, so much, now I can go to bed (it's midnight here in Melbourne, Australia)! By the way, I LOVE your DD.

Love your see through elements! That Santa chipboard is perfect there. I like seeing the stamp fits the SC labels so well too.

I love the idea of sticking the page protectors together. When I add extras, they do seem to be sliding around too much and this would fix that. Thank you for the idea!

Also, my album is already filling up! I need to cut back on the "extras" and the puffy elements. :)

I have been wanting to do a December Daily album now for the past 3 or 4 years. I love seeing yours come together and all the awesome things you do as a family. This year I actually purchased my album and began putting it together ahead of time. My trouble is I forget to snap pictures throughout the day and get so frustrated in the evenings when I realize this. (That, and I haven't done many holidayish activities yet.) I am hoping to get my act together and make this happen. I am thinking it may come a little easier next year with the addition of our first child since I will want to document her December activities.

In the meantime, until I find my motivation thank you so very much for all of the inspiration- love this project and one day mine WILL come together:) Happy Holidays!

I love that there is no right or wrong way to do Daily December. It is YOUR memory book. If the photo isn't from the day you put it on and you are ok with that, then it is ok! Most years I do a page of address labels from received Christmas cards on a day with not much going on. I also include normal, none holiday photos. Relax and enjoy the process.

I've noticed over the last couple of days that I can't click on the picture to make it bigger and see the details. Is this a new normal?

I live in Georgia and it hardly ever snows here either. My son has his fingers crossed!

It's good to get snow, but it's got to be hard when you live somewhere that it's not normal for it to stick around. I live in the Chicagoland area and I was shocked when the plows weren't keeping up with the little bit of snow we got yesterday (maybe 3"). It's kind of fun, though, when things like the weather don't fall into a pattern and can make for interesting stories to tell and challenges for us to overcome! Thanks so much for sharing today, Ali! I'm going to see if I can get my DD page for today done so I can share it tomorrow! It'll be about snow!

Your pages look great! We've been iced in here in Texas, very unusual, but I have so loved the family time!

I don't quite understand the taping of the page protectors. Wish I could see it in a video :P
It's prob cuz I'm checking from my phone and I need a bigger screen. Great work as always Ali! Enjoy the snow :)

Hi Mallory - I used two very thin strips of red line tape (1/8 inch). One is right along the outside edge of the page protector and the other is right before the pocket area. Really simple.

Hi Ali, I am loving all your ideas and neat tricks. I lucked out the other day at Staples when buying my Avery labels! A pack of ten for .49 cents. I rarely find a bargain! I better run, I want to get some DD in before a busy day at work. I am loving the stories that are happening here everyday.
