The Weekend Lens
This weekend the Oregon coast was calling us as it often does.
My Dad just finished building a set of stairs that go straight down to the beach from their house. This guy totally makes things happen.
My Mom sent this shot a few weeks ago when the whole project was in progress:
And then she sent this one last week when the stairs were complete:
Super inspiring.
Previously we'd walk down the road a few houses to access other stairs. This makes it so much more convenient to get down to the beach. And going up and down those stairs is awesome exercise.
It's also a whole lot easier to get back to the house when the kids get cold, tired, hungry, etc.
On Saturday we were greeted with sunshine.
Later that afternoon we drove down to Bandon Dunes to meet up with my Dad, my brother John and my cousin Rob who were in town for the weekend playing golf.
Simon got to putt a few on the last hole and he was pretty darn happy about that.
Might be time to sign him up for some lessons.
That's my brother John standing next to me in the back and my cousin Rob sitting next to Simon on the bench. It was great to get to connect with them and share dinner at Bandon Dunes.
Sunday ended up being an overcast day which was still perfectly wonderful.
Special times that we never take for granted.

Wow, so amazingly beautiful Ali!! This is also a favourite for me and my family when we fly out to Vancouver to see my folks ... for weeks before I go I dream of the shore line and the possible memories that we will be captured there. As always you have captured a beautiful memory with your family & lovely words too. Happy belated Birthday to Anna WOW time is flying, thanks for sharing.

Oh, Ali! It's so amazing to see open water & vegetation! We just got another 15 inches of snow on Friday, so this is welcome change of scenery! (Our snow banks are almost as tall as I am in most places and much taller in others!)

What a beautiful weekend!!! What a blessing to have such a great family & parents!! So amazing that your dad built those stairs!! Its so great that you could document that & share how proud you are of his talent. My Dad always liked to do stuff around the house & his ideas were so amazing. He turns 78 next month & has been in out of the hospital. My mom passed away in December the week before Christmas. I wish I had spent more time capturing memories that were special to them. Bless you & enjoy!!
I'm sorry for the loss of your Mom.

Ali...do you remember...there used to be stairs down to the beach somewhere near Shore Acres. They were white painted wood with a pipe railing. Wish I could remember exactly were they were...tore out many years ago for safety reasons. Aww...you are so young, those stairs were probably tore out before you were born! LOL! Thank you for sharing a "little bit of my roots"!

Beautiful shots. I sure miss being near the ocean. Living in the cold tundra of the prairies in Canada, after so many years away is hard. Seeing the beauty of the ocean makes me look forward to summer in British Columbia, but to also capture what winter brings on these frigid days. Warm blankets, snuggles, movies, memory making and a good ol'project.
Thank you so much!
