December Daily® 2019 | Story One

Welcome to my first story for December Daily® 2019!

Diving into this project feels like sitting down to coffee with an old friend. There's a really lovely mix of familiarity and anticipation. I'm excited to see what stories pop up this holiday season.

Also, heads up that today is Cyber Monday and my Classes + Digital Products are 30% OffNo promo code is required. Sale prices reflected in shop. Sale is on select digital products and online classes currently listed on the site. Class sale excludes December Daily® Product Play 3 and 12 Hours | December Daily® 2019 Prep Day. Digital sale excludes 2019 December Daily® digitals. Offer ends 12/3/2019 at 11:59pm ET.

If you've never taken my Storytelling With December Daily® workshop I highly recommend that one (and it's totally a steal at 30% off of $15). You might also be interested in December Daily® Product Play 1 and December Daily® Product Play 2 (both feature past year's products but all kinds of fun ideas are included that could be incorporated into an album any year). Now back to December Daily®. Here's a look at how my first story came together:

As many of you saw when I shared my Foundation Pages, I've done quite a bit of work in advance for my album this year. I love that one of the things that does for me is helps me to focus on the words and the photos during the month.

Today's story started with a flip-up transparency I had originally created for my Foundation Pages (included the cut out red glitter #1, the white star transparency from the 3x8 transparency bundle, the gold alpha, and the reason why along the bottom).

At the outset I thought I'd include a family photo for this first story but decided instead to use a couple photos I took during the day and save the family photo for another day. In the video below you'll hear me talk through that along with other decisions I made as I added this story to the album (like using the mini paperclips to hold the transparent page + my first photo together).

I wanted to use 2, 4x6 photos and went back and forth between making this almost into a little multi-page booklet using washi tape. It ended up as just one flip-up with the other pages attached together using the mini paperclips.

The metal "this is December" heart was offered as an Add On to kit subscribers this month

Along the outside edge I added an Avery Index Tab and used stickers from this year's Phrase Sticker Bundle on the inside of the tab.

DEALING WITH THE LIGHT

I also wanted to show you guys a behind the scenes image of the lights I'm using in my office during this less-daylight season of the year (at least where I live in Oregon). I bought these lights about a year ago and they have saved me a number of times when I've missed the natural light window of time here in my office. These ones were right around $60 and makes it so I can work into the evening if necessary in order to get my work done.

I love your first story choice - it's such a good lead in to how the season gets rolling. Also love how you worded the last sentence - that's what this project is all about. There will be light every day, and we will be the seekers of that light, as we choose to dwell on the good stuff while managing the not-so-terrific stuff. Happy December Ali!

I am so very grateful for this project every year, but I have always failed to get it all together, so I decided this year to start with words and pictures recorded daily in an effort to at least get it all down. I hope to keep it up throughout the month and then create an album to store our December 2019 story in.

Yay! It has begun. I so love my December morning routine - coffee, advent calendar, and watching Ali’s process videos. I actually finished my day one ON DAY ONE! It’s a personal victory over here. Here is my IG post: https://www.instagram.com/p/B5lq6pApCce/?igshid=4v4lqfafp38x

Looks great Ali! I love to do flip ups in my Project Life to add more pictures just like this. One of the ways I create the flip ups without Washi tape is to sandwich plain printer paper in between the top pictures so that you can't see it and leave some sticking out the bottom to adhere to the last picture.

Just take a piece of paper maybe 2" by the photo width (usually 6") and adhere about 1" on the backside of your first (outside) picture, then layer the flipped up inside picture on top of that first picture and the paper so now only 1" hangs out the bottom (which is essentially the hidden hinge that will join the top back to back pictures to the bottom). Then take your 3rd picture that goes inside the pocket and adhere that paper that is sticking out of the first two pictures to the back. Now the paper acts just like a hinge, but you can't see it at all.

You may already know this, but I always see you using Washi tape and that looks great too. But if you ever don't want to see the tape, I thought you might like to try this.

Thanks for sharing day 1. First thing I did this morning when I woke up was to turn on YouTube to look for you video. :-)

Love the behind-the-scenes on your umbrella lights. I am always having to delay my photo taking because I have missed that window of opportunity for daylight (no pun intended!). What ceiling camera mount do you use?
