The End Of An Era | Saying Goodbye To Two Peas

Yesterday I learned that Two Peas In A Bucket was closing it's website after 15 years.

It feels more than appropriate to issue a public thank you for the impact it made on my life.

Two Peas was always more than a shop for me, even though I purchased many supplies there over the years. I know this was true for a bunch of you as well. For quite some time it was my main online home - the place I went for memory keeping supplies, inspiration, education, conversation, industry updates and to share my own layouts.

It was the first place I became aware of what "modern" scrapbooking looked like (this was back in 2002 when I went searching for ideas for Simon's baby book) and it opened up an entire new world for me.

I posted my first two scrapbook layouts there on December 10, 2002 (the one at the top of this post and the one right below).

It was the place I first met so many awesome people related to scrapbooking - including some who became very dear, life-long friends like Cathy Zielske and Carrie Colbert.

It was the place to go to find out what was happening in the scrapbook world (or speculation or gossip and sometimes mis-information as happens on the interwebs).

It was the place I got my start in the industry - sharing layouts as a member and then as part of the Garden Girl design team. I made so many friendships during those years.

I was less active over there the last five or so years as I spent more time working on my own projects and doing design work for other companies. Even then I still checked the General Scrapbooking message board at least three-four days a week to read what was happening.

I'm so thankful to Jeff and Kristina for their passion for memory keeping and for creating a place where we could connect and get inspired and purchase products online and learn stuff and tell our stories. I wish you guys all the best in whatever is next for you and your family.

It made a difference in my life.

We are so sorry to see so many broken hearts with 2peasinabucket closing. I personally have been such a huge fan, same as with BPC, Project life and so many other leaders of scrapbooking in US. If it gives some kind of hope, I love to share with you that there are good things coming in other spaces. We're about to launch the first scrapbooking community in Spanish. Right now the project is in a crowdfunding campaign at: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/vive-scrapbook#home
so if some of you want to help, that will be awesome. Our website will be live coming July 17th, 2014. Hope you understand a bit Spanish. Hablas español?

Such sad news. Two Peas was such an inspirational place to hang out. So much to look at, so much to read, so much to learn, sooooo much inspiration in my life. :sigh: it will certainly be missed :(

Ali, I'm so glad that you posted today about Two Peas because I share in your feelings as well. I went there every day (just as I do here) and feel like I know Jeff & Kristina. I was always "rooting" for them & their small business and it felt like home. I wish them all the best & hope everything is OK for them. I hope they know how much their work touched SO many people. I also hope they get a chance to read this so they can conceptualize that fact. Thanks so much Two Peas, we will miss you:(

I'm so sad too. I loved "Pea-ing" and I was a loyal customer. The Gallery and Message Boards were a place of fun and refuge for me. I wish it wasn't so, but I understand that changes have to happen sometimes.

I'm devastated by this news. :( My big question is WHY? Anyone know why this is happening? We only have 1 scrapbooking store left in Calgary. I can't imagine this industry is suffering?

So, I get the store closing but couldn't the website remain open? If the owners didn't want to maintain it they could sell it or something. I reckon a lot of folks were not customers but used the site for inspiration and community. Is it too simplistic to want that part of the website to still be available? Adding advertising to keep it open? As a novice I really don't know how websites work, but is it possible?

I think it is really sad about two peas in a bucket and closures/mergers of scrapbooking companies. For the industry to survive, we need to purchase product from our manufacturers, designers (like Ali) and suppliers. If "we" don't purchase product, go to classes, pay money for ideas that people share, then people (even amazingly generous ones) can't do it for free and love forever. I suggest that if we want to have lots of exciting new products in the future we need to keep buying them.
Support you LSS, online shop or demonstrator. If you read a forum, also share your ideas. It is participation and community that inspires us all. So, I hope you are all off to purchase ali's products so that she keeps making products and inspiring us all.

We so appreciate you, April and others leading in this industry to publicly thank Two Peas for their impact on many of our lives! Daily I looked for their video presentations. I appreciate all they offered to so many who love this memory keeping life. Two Peas will be missed!

Thank you Ali for this gracious post to Jeff & Kristina and the community they created. Having gone thru a store closing three years ago I have seen what a devastating choice it was for the owner to make, and how hard it is even now for her to talk about it. Scrapbooking is a heart & soul industry, and yet it's a business. I too thank 2peas, as the message boards they provided opened a world of scrapbooking I didn't know existed. I wish them all the best and thank them for providing much more than product in the 15 years they were here!

Two Peas was an amazing incubator for talent -- the list of former (and current) Garden Girls reads like a who's who of the scrapbooking and papercrafting industry (and I'm talking about the real talent here, not the suits). Although the Two Peas site will soon be gone, its legacy lives on in people like you, Ali, and in so many others whose work I've enjoyed and been inspired by over the years. Seeds planted by Garden Girls are still growing all over the world :-)

Thanks for this response to the closing of Two Peas Ali - it was such a surprise that morning I saw my email from them saying they were closing...I feel lost without them after being a part of that community for 10 years...I wish the best for Kristina and all the Garden Girls. I look forward to your response as to what the future looks like in this industry.

It makes mw so sad. I too joind 2Peas back in 2002 and so enjoyed the conversations and inspiration I found there. I too feel like there is no longer a Community Hub for Scrapbookets. I love visiting everyone's blogs, Instagram & Pinterest but its not the same.

I too was completely surprised by Two Peas closing. While I personally never shopped there, I did check out the message boards for ideas/tips.

I've been regularly scrapbooking since 2009, when my father passed away. I made the memorial book we had at his service; and it just inspired me to continue.

Anyway, I hope the fact that not too long ago I came across 2 printed scrapbook magazines at my local Target is a good sign. :) I've not seen one of those in ages, and there were two different ones on the magazine rack.

Oh, I love the way you arranged the baby pics in that layout. :) Gives me an idea of what I might be able to do with some pics of my little nephew. :)

I too really miss Two Peas as I was a new member at Two Peas and also loved visiting the message boards. A number of members started another set of boards at http://2peasrefugees.boards.net/
