Collect Story Kit + August Stories By The Month

Today's the 10th of the month and that means a new  Story KitStory Stamp, and Stories By The Month kit

This month we are focusing on stories related to the theme of Collect.

To collect can mean to bring or gather together, to solicit and receive, or to regain control of oneself. As memory keepers we are often collectors of photos and words and supplies and we bring those things together to document our lives. What do you collect in your life? What did you collect when you were a kid? This month we are coming together to tell stories of collecting whether they are things or memories or friends or books or thoughts or something else entirely.

Initial story ideas for this theme include:

  • Make a list of things you are currently collecting.
  • Tell the story of a time you had to collect yourself before responding or reacting.
  • Did you collect something as a kid? Tell that story.

Is the lower case type stamp of the new alphas stamp a different size than the small Type stamp that came out years ago? It’s my favorite alpha stamp!

I'm seeing if I can have someone in the warehouse measure them (waiting for it to be delivered here).

The team said the lower case letters in this set are .72 inches tall.

First I would like to say that I absolutely love Ali's work, I have been a subscriber to story kits and SBTM kits physically and/or digitally for quite a while now. I love the story kit this month and the ones before that, the themes are really great for PL album and some for my OLW album too. I'm a subscriber to the OLW class and it's amazing.
Now as for the Stories by the month, well I don't like them, I have to say that I'm really bummed that I can't cancel my subscription (or transfer it to someone else that would really enjoy it since it's sold out) because I don't do anything with them, I struggled to use the April kit, the colors didn't work that well with my Photos, July kit was 4th July themed blue and red everywhere (I'm french). Also Die cuts that are too big and not usable.
And not the least, I appreciated that we could use kits from years before for the same month because the colors matched, now it's not the case and I don't use what I still have in my stash as a result.
That plus the fact that we have things that are repeated from previous years, well I had to say something and I'm sorry for that, not everyone will agree, I know that things always change and it's great but it's not the direction I would have wanted.

Echoing how much I love AE products. I have been a follower and user of your products since 2012! I have also subscribed to SBTM since it was offered and the initial changes this year were a breath of fresh air, however I also have to echo disneygreg82's brave comments regarding the size of the die cuts, and the amount of vellum, and the country specific items which don't work well for me either. I would prefer more space to journal for pocket pages and coordinating generic colourful filler cards, versus filler cards with too many words or drawings. I can just image how difficult it is to come up with fresh new concepts month after month and I totally appreciate the direction so I will continue to support and encourage you and your team (not just with my continued subscription) to keep up the good work! Thanks for your consideration and thanks for this amazing creative community that you've created and support.

Can you please compare the size of this typewriter stamp set with the One Little Word typewriter alpha that is currently in the shop? Thanks so much!

Hi! I don't have it in my hands yet but the lower case will be smaller since this set includes both upper + lower case (it has to be smaller to fit both the upper + lower on the backing). I'm seeing if I can have someone in the warehouse measure them!

Hi! I heard back from the team and they said the the lower case letters are .72 inches tall. The ones on the OLW set are .75 inches tall (I totally thought they would be smaller but am seeing that the OLW ones are more spread out). It is not the exact same typewriter font - the new one is messier with some of the letters filled in.

I liked the change of direction of the Stories by the month at the start of the year, but all the vellum is hard to use IRL. Also, the die cut set this month seems to have the exact same sentiments as March I think it was. I like some repetition, but not this much TBH. Perhaps more proof reading for next year? Thanks

Thanks for the feedback! Some of the sentiments on the die cuts are the same as March (some the same font + others adjusted) but not all. Hear you!

I really don't love vellum die cuts so pls don't use so much in future kits.

I quit subscribing to SBTM at the beginning of the year because I really liked the 7.25x8 papers and the 3x8 papers in the kits. I'm glad I did, because I wouldnt like all the vellum pieces. Just my personal opinion.😃

As a new SBTM subscriber, I’m loving the variety of shapes, sizes, colors and textures! It’s helping encourage me to try new approaches, which is exactly what I was hoping for. Just offering a different perspective. 😊

I love this month's kit it's so vibrant!
I love the vellum and the variety it has brought to my pocket pages - printed vellum is hard to find here in the UK so really enjoying these kits.

I'm loving the changes to this years SBTM kit (especially all the vellum). I agree with some that some of the die cut pieces are really big, especially for pocket pages but have started cutting them down to fit my needs.

One request, with the move to having the 7x8.25" cardstock as an add on (which is great) there haven't been many times in the classes that the contributors use these items in their layouts, would love to see ideas on how to use them (especially in larger album sizes) as I'm struggling to incorporate many of them into my album.

    Thanks!

If you are on the Craft the Story Facebook group there is quite a few inspiration on using these papers within your larger album. I'm posting this morning of how I just add them into my Pl album.

The vellum, Die Cuts and tags have pushed me to be more creative with my approach to my PL album and it sparked energy this year where I've been able to keep my album current week by week. If something is too big for a pocket, I play with it outside the pocket with brads etc for more dimension and fun/playful. I've been inspired to be fun, playful since Ali's approach to her December Daily and I've been incorporating that spirit into all of my projects and have some of my favorite work as a result this year.

As someone who has been scrapbooking for awhile, I enjoy when kits are curated for me. I don't mind being surprised. I know that not every product will be something I would have chosen, but what I like about Ali's company is that there are videos and ideas that inspire me to put things together in different ways. Not every month is a hit for me, but that's o.k. When I want something specific, I go to one of the big online stores to make a purchase. I don't do Project Life, but I am a chronological scrapbooker. I am enjoying the SBTM products this year, and if I can't use something for a specific month, I don't mind pulling from a different month. The August SBTM is lovely, and I can't wait to use it.

Great kits... once again. Happy to see the smaller die cuts for the SBTM & super excited about the 4x4 pockets ~ love using those for travel projects.

Curious if there will be another seasonal paper pack for SBTM?

I do enjoy reading everyone’s comments. I love the changes. Subscribed last year and this year and still love. I love the big die cuts, vellum, bold colors and my fav is when there are matching storycards (especially loved the ones in the Around Here story kit!). The one thing that is not my fav is “the face”, same as in Open SK, I think. And I too would love more journaling cards. But seriously, thanks for providing such a quality product!
