December Daily® 2014 | Day Ten

Welcome to  December Daily® 2014 | Day Ten.

A couple nights ago the kids and I had dinner with Aaron and he and Anna embarked on some holiday coloring while we waited for our meal. I brought the back of the menu home knowing I wanted to incorporate part of the drawings they were doing into my album. I cropped the drawing to 6x8 to fit in the pocket and added a couple embellishments + a date stamp + a couple identifying words on top.

In addition to the drawing, December 10th is also the day of Anna's school Christmas program. I decided to just leave the pocket empty so I can add a photo from that event tomorrow when I have a chance to print and photograph my project during the day.

Here's a look at the spread for Day Ten:

Many of you know I'm a fan of yellow sticky notes in Project Life®. They work great in this project too as you work your way through the month.

I continue to love the idea of adding "real life" stuff to my projects. For December Daily® it's often drawings, Santa letters, receipts, things I've received in the mail, etc.

You can leave the artwork (or real life stuff) as it is, or add a couple embellishments like I did here. I added the initials "A" and "A" using the letter stickers on top of the plastic ampersand. I stapled the ampersand to a gold foil circle and then used foam dots to adhere that grouping to the art work.

Underneath I added the rubber "merry and bright" banner. Those things are so cool.

Adding a simple sticky note can help you remember what you wanted to document - it's especially helpful when you aren't sure when you'll get a chance to get back to the project.

You also might notice that I moved the transparent 1/2 page to tomorrow.

Hope you are having a great week!

Love the way you are incorporating things from places in your December Daily this year Ali. So sweet and an extra memory nugget.

Hoping to add a little of the children's christmas artworks to the album too, I like how you have cropped it and added embellishments :)

I love the ampersand circle. It gave me an idea for my WITL. I'm going to stamp ampersands on to a blank journal card, maybe using the generation ink technique, and write about how I'm trying to teach these kids about family, we need to stick together etc. The boys have really been fighting lately, and the WITL week was a doozy. Anyway thanks for the inspiration. It's a real good idea to have Anna and Aaron's drawing in the album. I love that. That must have been so sweet. Michelle t

Ali do you ever use a printing service to print the 5.5" x 6.25" photos or do you know of one? Thanks!

I added mine to an 8x8 canvas and printed them at Costco and it worked great.

I've been scrolling through all the posts this week but haven't had time to really read through them. I'm so looking forward to this weekend when I'm hoping I'll have a free 1/2 hour to have a cup of tea and enjoy reading through all the December Daily posts - they look beautiful!

Ali, thanks for sharing your December Daily with all of us. I love seeing how you are making your pages with still young kids! You've given me the idea to take a picture of Charlie's dissertation and adding that to our/my December album, which is more of a journal, although I do have some fun things to add each year I've found. I don't think I've mentioned this, but last year's, after I looked at all my pictures, ended up being all about Christmas trees! I went to the national tree and took pictures of lots of the state trees and even of the tree at Freedom Plaza the "Occupy DC" people had put up for themselves! I may go back and do something with/about the whole Christmas tree thing. Anyway, mine's more a "Journal Your Christmas," I so wish I'd had your idea when my kids were younger! I did think to take pictures of them with gifts from aunts and uncles and godparents for thank you notes though, so I still have those pictures!

"real life" stuff ROCKS; so do post-it notes! but what rocks the very very most is not getting too hung up on tiny details all being done at exactly the same time! (there is NO statute of limitations in papercrafting!) :)

@kristparisi - this really isn't about being behind - it's about celebrating and documenting the season. Don't let my daily posts deter you or make you feel bad - set aside some time and PLAY and write down some stories and just enjoy it :). You can do it.

@krisparisi I have not had a chance to start putting words and pics into the album yet, but I'm keeping a journal and writing something down everyday and taking pics as necessary. It helps me to see Ali's posts because it gives me inspiration for the next day :)

I love that you add real life stuff and I picked that tip up from you. But now the scrapbooks are piling up. I do monthly project life pages with inserts and its 2 for each year. I thought about switching to digital so they are thinner but it's just not the same. How do you add your real life stuff? Oh what to do. :).

Adding children's artwork - LOVE it! Will have to remember to leave space for this randomly throughout the book as we hang our children's artwork up on an art wall. Thanks Ali!

Wonderful page! I have to say, I love that the Scrapbooking industry is finally embracing the real life stuff being included in albums and spreads! When I started Scrapbooking (about 16 years ago), that's all I ever did (I have a book from high school that is essentially a Smash book). But then, the 12x12 format with sketches and floofy took over and Blargh...that's all I could find in stores and stuff..I couldn't wrap my mind around it and I basically stopped doing it. Learning about project life, smash books and projects like December daily and other mini albums brought me back a few years ago and I'm so, so happy that it did!

Also, the post-it note? DUH. I mean, seriously...why didn't I think of that? I won't have my photos printed until the end of the month so that's why I never attempted the "daily" aspect of doing this project. I couldn't wrap my mind around completing a page a day without having the photos in my hands. But, I have them on my iPad and I can visually get an idea of how I want them icorporated and be able to make my pages at night and just slip the photos in once they're printed! Thanks for the daily inspiration, Ali.

I am planning to do Christmas Week in the Life Christmas week. I will be have the grandkids and other family members here from Sunday to Saturday of Christmas week. I've never done a DD before. I thought this would help me decide if I would like to do the DD next year. I like this post! This will be great for the grandkids to do. Thanks

I am new to December Daily. Is it too late to start? Do I have to do something special everyday? That's a little overwhelming! How do I start?! Help!!

It's never too late to start! :) And you can make the project about whatever you want, so it doesn't have to be something special just something about the day or a recent day. Do as much or as little as you want or can. Use Ali's pages as inspiration but it doesn't have to be the same. I'm very busy this December with non-holiday activities and I knew I wouldn't have much time, so I'm using a 4x4 album with a picture and very simple journaling. One day I took a picture of Christmas napkins, another day it was my Christmas playlist on iTunes. Some people skip days. Do whatever works for you! And for me just seeing Ali's pages each day is like a little visual Christmas present. :)

I definitely don't think it's too late to start and it can really be anything you'd like it to be. I choose to do something each day - one little story to document the season or what's happening in our daily lives. Lots of people just do holiday stories and do a bunch of days or stories at one time - it's really up to you - no rules ;). I always advocate for making it work for you and your family.
