GO/venture : Permanent

AE_PermanentLowLOGO

My friends Kal and Elise have a fun GOventure challenge happening this week. The image above is my contribution to today's theme: permanent.

When Kal first emailed with the word prompt my initial response was, "Hmmmmm."

I decided to try to forget about it for a few days and see what came from that. Often when I try to "forget" something, something altogether more interesting comes along. In this case all I kept coming back to were more questions.

Being a "word-person" the first thing I did, after procrastinating for a few days, was look up the definition.

per·ma·nent

adj.

1. Lasting or remaining without essential change: "the universal human yearning for something permanent, enduring, without shadow of change" (Willa Cather).

2. Not expected to change in status, condition, or place: a permanent address; permanent secretary to the president.

n. Any of several long-lasting hair styles usually achieved by chemical applications which straighten, curl, or wave the hair.

My second thought: disposable diapers.

Third: Sharpies.

Fourth: Google. Um, yep, it's easy to get lost there for days.

Fifth: I asked Twitter.

On Twitter I asked two questions:
(1) What's the first thing that comes to mind when I say "permanent"?
(2) Is anything really permanent?

Sharpiephoto

From there I took the responses and created the hand-drawn words above (using a Sharpie of course). I scanned that page into Photoshop, traced it to remove the background in Illustrator, layered it on top of a photo of cement and added the title (a free font called Blackout).

Thanks to those of you out there who answered my questions on Twitter yesterday. You made a creative prompt that was driving me a tad crazy much more enjoyable.

I am really excited to see what the other participants created with this prompt.

That's a fun challenge Ali. I asked my 11 yr. old what first thing comes to mind when he hears the word "permanent"...he said, "tatoo". The 9 yr. old says, "a cock-a-roach"! LOL!!

    Is anything really permanent?
YES- Red juice or koolaid spilled on a light color carpet. Enough said!

My mom always taught me (and still reminds me) that everything is temporary. What a great piece you created!

I like what you came up with. I love that you thought of disposable diapers. While maybe they will degrade one day, it sure won't be in our or our children's lifetimes. I use cloth diapers myself and had forgotten you are with Anna. I love a fluffy bum!

I know something permanent. It started back in the fall of 1990, when I met you at my Freshman orientation. :)
and after all these years, what great adventures they continue to be.....
    love you my friend!

You included my Twitter suggestion of 'marker' (not profound or funny, but it was honest!) Wooh, ironically it's probably the first permanent evidence of my Tweets! Thank you.

Such a great prompt! The first thing that came to my mind was India Ink. In my first art class in 9th grade (many moons ago)Sister George Patrice told us "now don't get any of this India ink on your uniforms! It is PERMANENT!" Still remember that to this day. LOL

Another permanent word that comes to mind is record. As in "you don't want that on your permanent record!"

Got a questions!? It doesn't have to do with today's post though. Can you use your digital designs with other programs than Photoshop? I bought the days/months to go with Project Life but not sure how to get them to my pics.
