December Daily 2011 | The Foundation Pages, Part Two

Today I'm sharing my second set of December Daily pages for 2011.

You can view my first set here (I highly recommend reading that post before you start on this one).

I added a link widget to the bottom of this post for you to share a link to your foundation pages. I can't wait to start seeing them come together!

You can view all my images so far (shown in the image above) on Flickr.

And just a reminder, to me this album really comes alive in December when the words and the photos are added (and a few more decorations and bits of life). I can't wait for the opportunity to savor the days of December and document those stories again.

DAY TWO

December Daily 2011 | Foundation Pages

The awesome letterpress number coasters arrived. I've been looking forward to playing with these numbers in my album. These are included with the Studio Calico kit. After finishing my foundation pages I've got three numbers left over that I'll work into my pages during December.

I used my sewing machine to stitch the coaster right on top of the Hambly transparency + ribbon combination.

December Daily 2011 | Foundation Pages

On the page opposite the Day Two page (I look at them as a spread) I added one of the cool calendar pages that's also included with the kit. These are thick chipboard pages with a place for notes along the bottom. For this one I trimmed off the notes section and used Hero Arts alpha stamps and Jenni Bowlin Cough Syrup ink to add the numbers.

December Daily 2011 | Foundation Pages

I'm thinking I might just keep that "loose" within the page protector and be able to pull it out and add to it throughout the month. I used a sentiment from my Studio AE November 2011 stamp set along the top (this is the same one I used on the outside of my album cover).

DAY FIVE

December Daily 2011 | Foundation Pages

Five little glittered stars in one pocket (those were from Prima) + a number five coaster.

December Daily 2011 | Foundation Pages

To trim the 5 I just laid it on my paper trimmer and cut back and forth a few times.

A COUPLE NOTES

  • Hambly has added a page to their site with a selection of transparencies that are great for December Daily.

  • PRINTING | I received this message from Stephanie Beeson Bryan via Facebook: Hey Ali! I just wanted to let you know that I contacted Persnickity Prints today about printing your 6x8.5 layered templates for this years DD. They said the print could be uploaded to an 8x10 canvas so it wouldn't try to make you crop the image and that they would even trim to size too. Wow! Thought maybe some of your other followers who are using a print service might find this helpful!! I know I will definitely be using them!!!

  • 12x12 layered templates and 8.5x11 overlays should be available next week at Designer Digitals (not this weekend). I'm hoping to wrap them up this weekend.

    Loving:
    - Page 15 is my absolute favourite.
    - Spelling out the days, "eleven" looks good.
    - A good quality hand punch (have added that to my wishlist)
    - The calendar. I've used one in the past and I find it a big help when looking back over the whole month.
    - Cough syrup as a product name.
    - $10 international shipping through Persnickety Prints (bookmarked!).

I feel like I cheated when I saw your images on Flickr earlier today.

    Hurry up December!

Beautiful pages - I know what you mean about waiting for them to come alive once you add the photos.

I also wanted to put in a plug for Persnickety Prints... I used them for the first time to print my Week in the Life photos and thought they did an amazing job. I also love the fact that they are waterproof and archival. Will definitely be using them again!

For those of us who only wanted the album...here is one option...Office Max has a chipboard binder 8.5x11 with 3" d rings that can be ordered for under $10,,,shipping is the killer...order $50 worth and ship to store is free. Find some friends!

And Ali is doing a 8.5x11 version of the overlays!!! This way we can use our stash and still follow along.
Love the options available for this project.

Where does Ali say that she's doing the DD pages in 8 1/2 x 11? The last I saw she said she wasn't sure if she'd have time to do that.

I´ve been looking fo an album as well, and I found one from We R Memory Keepers - it is 5,5x8,5. I´m getting the black one and I´ll be bringing out the gesso and embossing powders to transform it!

Ali, just awesome! Can't wait for my kit to arrive.

So if we use Persnickety will there be a way to tell them that the prints are for DD (i.e., no cropping and trim). I've used (and been very happy w/ Scrapbookpictures.com) but welcome the idea of simplifying my printing process if Persnickety is providing this service. How great is that!

Sounds like today is your B'day...Happy Birthday Ali! I love your DD pages. I have a Christmas related question. My oldest is 13 and youngest is 9. Every year I have sent a "photo Xmas card" to family & friends. So after this holiday I will have 13 of these. (Just lookinng to use the actual photos themselves) They are so great to look back on! (Some are in color some are black & white some indoors, outdoors etc.) I"m looking for a CREATIVE way to display these during the holiday season, other then a gallery frame/s. Do you have any thoughts? I'd love any suggestions you might have! Thanks!

I saw on Pinterest where someone made a book from all the cards the received that year. Here is that link....

How awesome would it be to have a book of all your cards!!!

Awhile back, Ali shared another great idea with Christmas cards. Punch a 2" square from every card you receive and create a wonderful collage. I've done it twice now and LOVE it! Would be great in a frame. I keep thinking I'll display the previous year's collages in frames at the holidays. Maybe I'll get to that this year!

Looks fabulous Ali! Can't wait to get started. Happy the weekend is approaching and I might steal a few minutes to prep for my DD.
Was wondering, what size needle and thread did you use for sewing through the thick coasters? I definitely don't want to ruin the coasters by not sewing properly because I have the wrong thread, tension, or needle! I would think one would need a heavy duty needle and thread? Please advise.TIA. and...HAPPPPYYYYYYYY BIRTHDAYYYYYY TOOOOO YOUUUUUUU! :) :) :)

Hi Suz - you know what? I have no idea. I just used whatever was in there - it's not a heavy duty needle. It's the same one I used to stitch on the page protectors. I highly recommend a couple practice rounds on a some spare pieces of transpareny/thicker chipboard before diving in. I did have to push them through a bit - get a little aggressive - but not too much.

Hey Ali and Suz - I was going to ask the same question at Suz. Ali, I have the same sewing machine that you're using and I find it *so* hard to stitch on plastic and anything thicker than cardstock. I'm quite sure that there are instances when I've messed up the timing on my machine stitching on heavier things, but I'm too scared/cheap to take it in for tune-up ;) I just let it "rest" for a while, then stitch on some fabric and start using it again. Such an amateur thing to do, I'm sure!

Ali, do you go really slow when you stitch on these materials? I've wondered if that would help me. I also try to hold the tail threads taught in front of the machine as I start stitching. seems to help with the thread bunching up on the underside.

Honestly, I don't know how the woman who recommended this machine is able to sew all those layers in her books! I've watched her class promo video a few times, and I'm in awe - she's got the magic touch, I guess :)

LOVE those coasters (they're available on etsy, just FYI ;)

Hey Ali, Happy Birthday! Don't know how I've missed knowing you share a birthday with my Daddy?!?! I hope you have a GREAT day! My sweet Daddy would have been 85 (passed away almost 4 years ago).

True confessions: I finished my foundation pages, took all the notes, collected all the bits, took the pictures and never put my 2010 DD together! Shock.....gasp!!!! To excuse myself I did have an eight month with the flu, I made sock monkeys, snow globes with my eight year old.........I'm sure I could think of more :) I'm going to do my best to get 2010 DD album together before December 2011!!!!!! Thanks for inspiring me!!!

So conflicted. Digital or paper? Digital or paper? Last year, I successfully prepped my pages (digital) and completed a 6x6 book by printing my pages every couple of days. It was mostly journaling though with some pictures sprinkled throughout - it could have gone either way.

Argh. Guess that's why we start now ... so I have time to decide ;-)

Have been thinking about ways to mash up DD and my Project Life album and I think this post has given me at least the beginnings of an idea ... use the smaller journaling spaces and make little days of the month cards to put in them counting down the month. Add a picture, a little journaling here and there and PRESTO! YAY for number inspiration :)

    So inspiring!!

Do you (or does anyone) have a suggestion for a calendar page or printable for a 5x7 size? I'm using chipboard covers/bookrings for my album so I don't have the kit but I love the idea of having the month at a glance in the book!

Hi Deanna! My album is also made of chipboard and rings, but it's 6x8. I didn't purchase the kit either because I have so much Christmas stuff, I wanted to challenge myself to use what I have. Perhaps you could use the calendars that come in the Junkitz calendar kitz. It's 6x6, but you could always trim the month off to make it work for you.
