Simon Edwards | Obi-wan vs. Anakin from Ali Edwards on Vimeo.
Last week while I attended his IEP meeting Simon got to hang out with his friend Ben. Ben and his Dad had just been perfecting the art of stop-motion and taught Simon the basics. We left there with the name of a small camera and the software (Frame By Frame) Simon needed to make some of his own videos here at home.
The camera arrived over the weekend and he’s been making little videos daily since then. This first one is about 9 seconds long – you might have to push play twice (for some reason I did). So cool.

wow congrats on a fantastic video simon – im a teacher from New Zealand and i’m so impressed by your skills – ( i couldn’t do that!) tomorrow i’ll show my 5 year old son and he’ll think it’s NEAT!
cheers julie
Bet it was so much fun doing that! Give us tips Simon, hehe!:)
I pushed 3 times & laugh!
So nice!

This is fabulous! Really great job Simon! Hope to see more
*thumbs up*
Great work Simon!! I hope you’ll share more of these…so much fun!
Hysterical – thank goodness for Lego, my son is the same age as Simon and we have a HUGE collection of lego people, I think sometimes the sets of lego are bought specifically just for the people they contain !!
Ditto! and I sense some movies coming on …
Way cool! Great job, Simon!
fantastico!!!!! ben fatto Simon!!!!
great!!
Very cool. My kids would love to do something like that. I’ll have to show this to them. Do I need a tutorial, or is it pretty intuitive?
I was thinking the same thing. My nephew would love this but I was wondering how easy it would be to explain to him. Any tutorial would be awesome.
You can find loads of great tutorials on the web; I did a search for “how to make stop motion Lego videos” and found a ton!
Thanks guys.
Way to go Simon! What a great video. I’m sure it took a lot of time to make, and it was well worth it. It’s awesome!
So cool!!! I had to laugh when the head fell down.
Great job Simon! Hope we’ll get to see more. Marie
wow thats fantastic simon,my son who’s 10 would love that, will have to get him the bits and pieces he loves lego like simon, thanks for sharing.

A director in the making!! Way to go Simon. Keep going on these types of projects.
My son just made his first too! However, his older sister had to get her Polly Pocket dolls in with the Star Wars action… He wasn’t too happy about that!
OMG!! This is AWESOME!!
fabulous, ali, pass my congratulations along! now, my son has been pestering me to do this too – i assume you don’t need that special camera and can make them with any (sorry if that’s a really, really, stupid question….)…..
Bravo, Simon!
This is so cute! Now, if he could just train Anna to be his subject!
whoa Simon……VERY cool !!!!!!!
This is awesome!
That’s so cool!!!!
Way cool! Simon, the Director and Screenwriter – quite a future for this guy!
Simon seems to be a natural film maker. I was hooked as soon as they switched on their light sabers! I am amazed at the advance techniques of the changing camera angle. I really enjoyed his story line also. Very dramatic ending!
Great job Simon! Can’t wait to see more
Great job, Simon! I loved it.
Awesome job, Simon! I called my boys from the breakfast table to come and watch it
Wow! So Wonderful, Simon. I can’t wait to show it to my two lego fanatic boys (and my daughter, too!) Great job, and hope to see more!
Nice Simon! That must take a lot of patience! You GOOOO!
Awesome! He is truly an amazing little man. His Mom is pretty wonderful too.
Well, done, Simon! Star Wars is the best.
Simon is awesome!
WAY TO GO Simon! You totally rocked this one. Can’t wait to see the next. Ali you might have a future film maker in the making.
Simon that was fantastic! Good luck with your movies.
AWESOME!!!
awesome video!
congrats, simon!!!!!
That is AWESOME!! My 7 year old is taking a class at school on stop-motion animation and he LOVES it. I just showed him Simon’s movie and he said, “That is soo cool! Is he taking a class like me?” I’ve now agreed that a video camera is top gift for my 7 year old’s birthday..God help us all!
Hi Josie, I’d love to hear more about the materials of this class. Do they perhaps do their own drawings? And is there refernce material. Have noticed that my son’s art is rather more stories than “still life” and am keen to encourage… tx
GO, Simon, GO!
My niece and nephew have been doing this for awhile. I am always amazed at the result.
Way to go, Simon!
How brilliant is that? I will definitely show my 5 yo son tomorrow who is a complete star wars freak! Can you let us know the details of the camera etc. as well Ali?
WOO-WOO – this is wonderful Simon. Well done with the Legos. I’d be interested in knowing more too.
Simon, your stop-motion video is amazing! Thank you for posting it.
Way cool Simon! Love it!
My favorite part was the very beginning when the lightsabers appear and the very end with the headless villain! Great job, Simon!
EXCELLENT stop-motion video. I watched it three times because I too love legos.
On Becky Higgins site she showed a PL idea. There is a site that makes the URL into the “square scannable” thing. Then they printed it out and put it in PL. Then when you flip the book you can scan with your phone and view the video away from the computer.
Hi Debbie. Where would that be on Becky Higgins site.I can’t find it. Many Thanks.
Susan,

Incredible!!!! So cool that this technology is available for kids. When I was young this would have been way out of a normal person’s price range to purchase. Go Simon Go!
