For The Love Of Sweet Lily Girl

Our sweet Lily girl passed away peacefully yesterday after an awesome last run on the beach she loved so much.

She was the most fabulous friend and we will miss her everyday. She had a wonderfully full life during her 12+ years with us. She especially loved going hunting with Chris or my Dad, running on the beach, and hanging out with me in my office.

She was my constant companion and was by my side during all the best and most challenging times. I had the thought today that maybe she stayed around (she was very sick in the summer of 2011 but pulled through) to be with me during the time I needed her most.

I am so thankful she was a part of my life.

Love you Lily girl. Thank you.

See more photos and read a post from 2011 about her story here.

Ali, I’m sorry for you loss, these pictures of her are perfect and gorgeous! How lucky for you both to have been friends and be together so long. Love and prayers for you and the family.

I was just thinking about how Lucky I was this weekend to have my dog, will be 3 in August. She too is my companion and follows me everywhere and is squeezed under my chair now as I type this. Funny even though too big but still has to lay under my chair and at my feet.

Thank you for sharing her with us and will miss seeing pictures of her on your blog and in your Project Life. Maybe you could make a little book about her for the kids to have.

    Oh, Ali…
My constant companion passed away in Oct of 2005 and I can still feel what it was like to let him go. If they could have taken the life-force out of my husband and gave it to my dog, I would have done it. I now have to beautiful Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and they live to love, but I don’t think I will ever type or say his name without a lump in my throat.

I’m wishing your family the best, but my heart is going out to the one who will her most.

So sorry to hear that Ali. Sad that these awesome companions don’t live as long as us humans do. (Just realised recently that our Spaniel is approaching midlife and that in the same nr of years that we’ve had her, she’ll be quite old.) Looks like Lily had a full and happy life.

So sorry for your loss, Ali. I hope that you and your family are comforted by your memories of Lily. We lost our 12 year old dog Abby last month after a long illness. Gratitude for the blessings we have been given helps so much in healing the sorrow that comes with loss.

So sorry for your loss Ali. Dogs are such intuitive creatures, such loyal friends, and their loss leaves a void, for sure. Perhaps you’ll have another someday, but Lily will live on in your hearts as a unique and special individual. May your memories be a comfort. oxoxoxo

So sad for you, Ali. Dogs weave their way into our hearts so thoroughly that it is deeply painful to be without them suddenly. It’s an amazing kind of love. I agree with your point that she likely stayed around longer so she could be with you when you needed her most.

Ali, I am so sorry for you and your children. Are you aware of the book “Dog Heaven” by Cynthia Ryland? She also has a “Cat Heaven” book. As hard as it is to lose a pet, it can be so hard for children to understand. As I write, my guy Nigel lays on my feet. We lost our girl, Nelllie last fall. She had an awesome day of playing and running and eating while battling some form of cancer. We chose comfort measures only. She dropped in front of my daughter and I, and went peacefully. Our pets are such a precious gift. The saying ‘I wish to be the person my dog thinks I am’ always gives me pause. God bless Lily. You, Simon and Anna are in my thoughts and prayers.

Oh Ali, I am so sorry. I can feel your grief because I, too, lost my dear old lab friend after 14 years. He, too, was with me through some very tough time, but always faithful and comforting. That was a couple years ago and I still miss him terribly. I’m keeping you and your family in my heart.

Ali, I’m so sorry. I lost my little old man, Barkley, after fourteen years. He was one of the sweetest gentlemen I’ve ever known. After his death I was surprised when I would walk out my office and could hear him following behind! Or when I would walk into a room and could smell his doggy shampoo. Long term pets that live in our homes seem to be a little more “human” than can be explained. Be good to yourself, have ice cream. Again, so sorry, J

Oh Ali, so sorry to hear of Lily’s passing. I never know what to say at times like these, so I tend to say nothing and decided that just wouldn’t do!

It has to be hard to think of all the good times and love when you’re already missing her so much. I agree with you that she pulled through to be there during your toughest stretch. She will be watching out for your still. Prayers to you and the kids and Chris and your Dad as all of you grieve. Love on each other. Peace and comfort to you.

We just lost our seat Gunner, a 12year old yellow lab. I know your sadness. There is a hole in my heart right now. I still come downstairs in the morning and expect to see him in the big chair, where he would watch my every move. The healing is slow sometimes.
    Thinking of you.
