The Gifts Of Imperfection E-Course With Brené Brown

A few weeks ago I woke up to an email from Brené.

Brené and I have been friends for a 6 or 7 years now and my life has been tremendously blessed by her friendship. I have learned so much from her about navigating in this world and being open. Many of you might be familiar with her for her TED Talk or her books.

In her email she wanted to know if I had an interest and availability to come to her home in Houston to shoot a video segment for an online class she was putting together based on her book The Gifts Of Imperfection for

So after freaking out (as much as I could in my dark office at 6am right before I needed to get my kids up and ready for school) I called my Mom and asked her if she was available to be with the kids (Chris was in China and it was the week of Katie’s wedding) and she was willing and able and excited. Thank you Mom.

So I got on the plane with Kelly Rae last Tuesday morning and off we went.

Kelly Rae and I each filmed one segment with Brené that will be included in the content of the workshop. It was so cool to get to do something together.

In the segment I filmed with Brené we talk about everyday life photography as my personal gratitude practice. We talk about Week In The Life and why I do everyday life documentation. We talk about resilience and the beauty of the simplest things in our everyday life. It’s at the heart of what I d0 and I was so, so honored to be included in this project.

To be honest my most favorite part of the experience was simply hanging out with the two of them on the couch in the evening, eating dinner together and downloading where each of us are at in our lives right now. These are some of my truest friends and I was so lucky to get to spend a couple days with them.

You can read Brené’s post about filming and find out all the details about the e-course here.

PS | While I’m working today I’m listening to her audio CD The Power of Vulnerability: Teachings on Authenticity, Connection, and Courage. It is so, so good and really in-depth.

How exciting, Ali! I read both ‘Daring Greatly’ and ‘The Gifts of Imperfection’ last Spring and they were life changing. I’m still forging through a lot of the “brain work” in my journal that was inspired by reading these books. Like Brene, I have a serious “hustler” that I need to tell to shut-up and make it go sit in the corner.

Definitely considering signing up for this class.

The vulnerability audio CD I’m listening to today is really awesome as another way to digest the material. I also felt when I was watching the filming of some of the e-course segments that what was going to be so great is it’s another way to access her material (via a creative project and seeing her on camera which uses a different part of our brain) vs. reading her words in the books.

What if you were to find out, that as much as I appreciate Brene, that I didn’t sign up until I heard that you were involved? You were the clincher.

    Hi Ali,
It is lovely knowing you are involved in this class.
It was through you that I first watched Brene on TED. And
recently was able to get her book “Daring Greatly”, which
    I have almost finished…loving it.
I was unable to get my hands on the physical book “The Gifts of
Imperfection”, but last night I got the ebook…happy days. I am
now ready to be part of this wonderful class.
