December Daily® 2014 | Day Eighteen

Welcome to  December Daily® 2014 | Day Eighteen.

We finally carved out time to go see Santa the other night and today I'm adding that story and an enlarged photo.

This is one of those where you have to buy the photo. This year there was a sign up for no cell phone or other camera shots (which I respected) and I happily paid for one 5x7 photo. The one that ended up in my book (as a 6x8) got scanned in and enlarged so it would fit my pocket and so I could get all the marketing stuff off from around the edges and I could adjust the color which wasn't awesome. The "2014" icon in the bottom corner was unavoidable so I just went with it.

Here's a look at Day Eighteen:

My kids are so totally growing up.

Originally I had the "18" card in here as a 4x6 (from my  Foundation Pages). I ended up cropping that down to 3x4 and moving it to the top pocket.

You can also see in this image that I added one of those little red stars in with the brad from that was used on  Day Seventeen.

That ampersand pocket is still see-through.

For my journaling I cut a 6x8 sheet of pattern paper down to 4x6 and hand-wrote using a combination of upper case tall letters and cursive letters.

The line was long is basically the "just" of the story.

Holy whoa! So uncanny how similar your Santa all the way out in Oregon (my home state!) looks to our Santa here just outside of DC! Real beards all the way!

And really love the tweaking you did on the photo. While we don't know what the original looked like, I can only imagine the lighting was a bit harsh...what with all those flash bulbs and fluorescent lights in the mall.

I like that they are both in uniforms and that Simon's belt level is showing. It's a little bit of a time capsule of now. I also like the arrow pointing to Santa; a great subtle touch. Your album is a nice mix of one page and two page spreads. Thanks for sharing your creative ideas with all of us! Merry Christmas!

I like how you altered your handwriting in the same story/journaling card. And it emphasized the one part, the line being too long, instead of focusing on a few things. I wanted to ask, this happened to me this week working on my project, what would you do if you made a mistake during journaling? You know a misspelled word, or in my case my hand ahead of my brain. I sort of wrote over it, to "fix" it, but I'm not happy with it. I'm hesitant to use White Out. Anything you could suggest I'd appreciate. Thanks.

I have this problem, too (hand ahead of my brain)...the other day I did it and used a thicker pen point to write over it and make it look bold (like how Ali did a few days back) and then did it with a few other words so it looked like I did it on purpose rather than trying to fix a mistake. :)

I would either leave it and just move on or I would just make a new card ;). Neither is right or wrong. I mis-spell things because I'm going too fast too - I'm okay with that sometimes and not other times.

Thanks you guys. Great suggestions, and great to know I'm not alone. ;)

our mall Santa doesn't allow cell phone/cameras either. I mean, I get they want us to buy their pictures but they're so dang expensive and half the time, the quality is worse than what I could get on my crappy iphone 4. So this year we went to Cabela's - they gave us free pictures, we were able to snap our own if we wanted and the line was non existent when we went. Just an idea for you for next year. ;)

I love this spread. And I prefer the date filler card as the 3x4 over the 4x6! Very nice!

Also, I just want to say that I'm loving playing with DD this year. I had no intentions on working on my album until January. But I can't keep my hands off the supplies!! Everything works so well together and I've already done 5 days! Also, the box it all came in is being used - I used the flap that has your lovely handwriting of December daily on it and turned it into a page divider! Once I find a permanent space to store all the supplies, I plan on using more of the box within my album! Thanks for the lovely inspiration!

even if everything else about this page wasn't awesome... (which it is, actually) ...the expressions on both kids' faces would still make the photo PRICELESS! :)
