The layout above is available at Designer Digitals as a digital layered template.
As I was working on that layout last week with the hand-stitching I remembered that I had done an article for Creating Keepsakes a couple years ago on stitching (October 2009) both by hand and by machine.
Just looking back through these pages makes me want to scrapbook. Big time.
Here’s a look at those layouts (click any image below to view larger):

These have all been added to my portfolio.

This is perfect for me today because I just sewed on my first layout 2 days ago. I love these pages you’ve done and have most of them in my Ali binder. So fun to see the different ways you stitch on your layouts. I’m hoping to do more of those too. Still learning and trying not to get frustrated when the machine doesn’t work with me. Thank you for putting these all in your portfolio, will come in handy.
You can check out my first sewing page on my blog at http://everydaymemorieswithprojectlife.blogspot.com
My son Sam was helping me too,he loves it. Thanks
i always love looking at your layouts…thanks.
These are wonderful. Thanks for adding them to your blog.
Thanks for all the great (& easy ideas)!
Ali, this makes me want to scrapbook too! These layouts are amazing. Thanks for sharing!
Great ideas! I love the way you incorporate the stitching, but also the way you view the subject matter of your pages.
Fabulously timed post! Was just given a sewing machine the other day and thinking about ways to use it
thanks Ali!
Maybe I can break out thrE machine today while I scrap with my favorite scrappy girls. Might look great on grandma’s pages. She loves to sew.
My sewing machine has a special space, leave it up all the time and LOVE sewing on my pages. Always love your pages.
so wonderful to see some of these pages again!!
I always keep my October creating keepsake 2009 near by when ever i am scrapbooking because I always go to your article in there and get inspired by one of your layouts!!! you rock.
Ali, you make the most beautiful layouts. And the pictures of Simon reading to Anna are completely adorable. Thank you for sharing them!
love your layout havent sewn on my yet. have to give it a try.
oooh, some great tips to try! say, what is the red and black baby chair anna is sitting in on your read2me layout? i think my son would love to hang out in something like that!
It’s a Baby Bjorn Babysitter. We loved it: http://www.babybjorn.com/us/products/bouncers/babysitter-balance/balance/
This makes me want to scrapbook, too. Thanks for sharing!
hey ali, love your layouts, so inspiring!
How did you make these zick zack hearts on the fourth layouts?
I’m guessing she used a heart punch for those….
would love to know which one. have never seen any…
Marissa,
I’m positive it’s the scalloped heart punch by Marvy Uchida. I know Scrapbook.com has them, also, I’ve seen them in Michaels. Hope this helps.
Oh gosh! I really just have to get over my fear of stiching on paper and do it! These are fabulous and giving me the itch to go create! Fun!
Hey Ali — LOVE, LOVE the layouts. You are such an inspiration.
Question fr you — how old/big was Anna before you put her in the Bjorn babysitter? Samuel is only two weeks old so I’m thinking its a bit early to sit him in it.
Thanks,
Autumn
love all the stitched layouts you’ve shared here Ali.
Hope you are fine.
hugs
Ali,
LOVE your layouts! Do you have a source for your fabrics? Or are they odds & ends you have on hand?
I LOVE the added touch they give!
The heart one with the 3 pics is by far my favorite layout EVER!
I loved this one on your Y/T class slides last year. And I STILL think about it! lol. How great that it will now be in your portfolio for instant inspiration!
Thanks for this Ali. About a year ago I bought a sewing machine so, amongst other things, I could machine stitch on cards and layouts. Can I machine in the nice straight lines that I wanted to so badly? No! So my machine has sat doing nothing all this time. You’ve made me realise it doesn’t need to be straight, and I’m going to get my machine out and have another go.!!!
Oh yes! Straight is totally over-rated!
Love, love these layouts. I will be referring back to these for inspiration.
Thanks for posting these, Ali. This was one of my top fave CK articles from you
Glad to see them on your site!
Wonderful, I just inherited a Necchi circa 1950s and am having it conditioned right now. I can’t wait to start doing some machine stitching!!!
AWESOME inspiration!!!! Love seeing your layouts – they always make me want to scrapbook too
Oh so very lovely:)
very fun – I really need to get my machine out and try this out!

How I adore your layouts, Ali! I always think there’s so much love in them – they show how much you love your kids and your family and how much enthusiasm and love you put in creating your projects. So cool.
Thank you!
YOU always make me want to scrapbook!
Thanks for the inspiration!
Oh my stinking heck! You were born the year I graduated from high school. I now officially feel old! Clearly, I am old enough to be your Mother… old enough to be a Gma to a seven year old…. What was I thinking when I could jump high enough with joy when I became pregnant with twins…twins that are six years old.
Clearly, I am a “do it yourself” Grandmother. OY….now I’d better go lie down!
Great to see “new” layouts from you. Love them all and such a treat here on a Monday morning!
It’s always exciting to see “new” layouts from you. I also keep a folder with Ali layouts. Love them all!
I love how you used his spelling test!!! As always, I am leaving your blog inspirated!!!
fab work with the stitching!!!
i sooo love your work. ali! it is so “real” and so touching… your journaling always touch me to the core…
although i haven’t tried stitching, seeing your LOs makes me want to scrapbook! thanks for the inspiration, ali… you totally rock!
btw, i was inspired by your valentines mini book that i made one for my dear hubby. posted it on my blog: http://hippychickmom.blogspot.com/search/label/hippy%20scrapper
thanks for the inspiration, ali!
It was after first seeing that article that I finally took the plunge and tried machine stitching on a page. My machine is quite finicky these days, but otherwise, I think I would do it all the time. It adds so much dimension and texture. An awesome technique.
Thank you for inspiring me!
Love seeing all these layouts of Anna’s baby days! Hope to see more…
I scraplifted your “Generations” layout when I was in your Y+T class, I’ll have to see if I have it uploaded anywhere. It’s one of my favorites!
