I loved reading these words and so excited for everyone and their new journey’s with them. How inspiring all of them are in a list like this.
Just have to say I’d like to know more about the words “bathroom” and hokey pokey and why they were picked.
Dawn,
I was reading comments on the first post for OLW and the woman who chose the word bathroom said that she has a bathroom remodeling project that she wants to start and complete in the new year, so that’s why she chose “bathroom”. It looks sort of funny in the list with all the others!
Thanks Tashia,
I figured that’s what it was about. How great for her to choose this word and all the fun she will have making it happen. Thanks again.
and the hokey pokey one was I believe around post 500 or higher – relatively new. She wanted to “put her whole self in” to remember to dance, shake it all around, etc. to be present and remember to have fun it seems like.
I loved the reason for the “hokey pokey” that is super creative! Good luck to her
Thank you Debbie !! That is an awesome word for the year, what a fun way to choose to be present. Really love reading these OLW not sure how I missed these two earlier, so thanks ladies for the help.
I hope these words work well with them for 2012!!
These are awesome and I forgot to post mine so here is mine: MISSION
I wish everyone a wonderful journey with their OLW. For 2012 I have chosen the word pride.
my word is: S O U L
I chose this word for 2011 and loved what I learned. Hope the same for you. It is such a moving word that I am “keeping it going” along with “hopeful.”
Great list, my word is ACHIEVE
So loved reading this list, how very inspiring and uplifting. Thank you for sharing these amazing words and I wish everyone a wonderful journey with their OLW.
love me
My 2012 word is GIFT.
It is already a wonderful match.
Thank you, Ali, for all you put into this project.

My One Little Word for 2012 is : Pause :
I love this word. Don’t we all need to pause sometimes? Great choice!
Such great words all around, my word for this year will be involved!!
Thanks for sharing all the words!!
Ali, could you please add “goal” to your list. Thank You.
My word is WONDER.
Hi Ali, my word is Energy. Have to go to bed earlier. I started yesterday.
happy 2012!!
My word for 2012 is: purposeful
A couple of my colleagues choose a guiding word every year. In fact, one of them posted this to the other on Facebook and I happened to see it. I’ve decided to join in – my word is rise.
Thanks for doing this! Happy New Year!
thanks for making the list!
love seeing all the inspiring words…
What an inspiring list! I’m looking forward to growing with my word!
I’m still vacillating between two words. Either connect, which is on the list, or glow, which is not. I’m going to have to listen and see which one is speaking more loudly to me right now.
My 2010 word was connect and in that year I’ve made two of the best friends I’ve ever had! Good luck.
My word for 2012: BEHOLD
Awesome! Thanks for sharing the inspiration! My word is: receptive
OLW 2011: RESOLVE
Hi Ali,
After jotting down a list – word after word, my OLW is PURPOSE.
Surprisingly, I didn’t see it on this list.
I hope this word helps some others looking for their OLW.
To me, PURPOSE means:
To live with intention, planned and thoughtfully.
To create/preserve calmness by preplanning.
To truly enjoy, delight in, cherish and celebrate little and big life moments by not allowing chaos rule my life.
My word last year was MOVE.
And boy, did I! Not only physically in location, but emotionally and all aspects… But with it came a lot of chaos.
Happy NEW YEAR Ali!!!
Wishing you and the kids great adventures and moments in 2012.
Susie, I just wanted to tell you I love this word, AND your writing behind it. Happy New Year!
My word is also purpose, I love your writing on it, it touched me and added meaning to my goals for the year.
I also made a list and looked up definitions/synonyms. I was toying with focus, joy, do and create. Then PURPOSE found me and seemed to encompass everything I was looking for this year. I love your writing about the word. Are you taking Ali’s OLW class?
My word for 2012 is comfort. In day one I discovered even more facets to this word as I ran, planned my week, played, did chores and worked on our holiday letter. Hello 2012.
Project is my word…as in finsihing up a bunch of projects…health wise, financially, home wise, and art wise:)
My 2012 word (phrase?) is Well-Being.
2011 was Present
My word for 2012 is GENTLE.
Hi Kathleen (and Ali). My OLW is Gentle; glad to share it with someone else. I had contemplated doing OLW 2012, and up until then, I had decided against it because I didn’t have a word. My OLW came to me on the night of December 30th; my first inclination was to look up the word in the bible. Sure enough, I knew then and there that it was my word, and signed up to take Ali’s class the next morning.
My Word for 2012 is Perseverance.
Mine is efficient!
My word for 2012 is resolve
What an interesting and exciting list. I pray that everyone has a wonderful year where they are able to go through the year living and working with their word. Blessings everyone.
Well, I keep hesitating but I believe my word for 2012 is Thrive. Thanks for putting up the list.
Susan… My word last year was Flourish, which in large part meant thrive to me. It had a wonderful effect on my life.
Thought i had my word..VISION but havent 100% committed to it yet…love the word VICTORY but more importantly when i keep this word in front of me it is a huge part of who I am! I also thought about Dream but now will go and do a little more digging into a few others such as expectation and purpose…thanks Ali for doing this again!
My word for 2012 isn’t on the list yet. It is NEST.
After much contemplation the past two weeks, I’ve finally settled on REFINE.
Gosh, what an awesome list! Truly motivating!!!
Great list of words. My word is not on the list yet. Define is my word for 2012.
It’s already on your list, but I’m choosing COMPLETE. Last year my word was FOCUS, and I plan to continue that word as well.
thank you Ali for posting this incredible list of words – I just picked my word today. After reading about (& very much relating to) Oskar’s “heavy boots in the fantastic novel (& new movie) Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer my word is lighten. I also LOVE your word “up” so simple, so little yet so meaningful & in so many ways.
My word for 2012 is CHOOSE !!
My word is CHOOSE also! Hope I choose wisely!
Thanks for posting the list. My word for 2012 is “loved”.
My word is BLOOM.
I was thinking in terms of taking some areas of focus and interest and really doing more with them (more doing, less thinking). The words I was initially looking at were “develop” and “progress” because I want to progress more in developing certain areas of my life that I’ve been spotty in working on in the past.
But I wanted something more metaphorical than those two words. And I attending my second painting workshop this year, both called, “Bloom True.” So BLOOM seemed like the word.
Bloom was my word last year and it was great. Very inspirational and allowed me to be more creative. Enjoy your journey…
LOVE this project and am so excited for 2012. My word is create. So much plays into this word for me. Thanks, Ali for the inspiration and motivation this year
Beautiful list. My word for this year is ACTIVE.
My word is (Re)construction.
I love reading everyone’s one litrle word. I signed up for your class @BPS
My word is TRY. Thanks for all the inspiration, Ali!
hi ali, last year, i loved it when liz made a little voice message where she read all our words out… and you posted it on your blog. it was pretty amazing hearing them spoken. an affirmation of all the intentions we’re all carrying.
you’re awesome ali, here’s to a year full of ‘up’
xoxx
Mine is explore
Hi Ali!
I´m on my third year with OLW and I had the hardest time ever to choose a word for this year. For 2011 I chose “fresh”,but the last year came to be one of our WORST years ever as a family. I keep thinking that maybe this year we will se some good coming from all the pain and sorrow that we´ve been dealing with.
So for this year I´m sticking with “HAPPY” and hoping that things will settle down and get closure on some things. At least that´s what I´ve chosen right now….
Hi Ali, I am surprised not to see my word. I picked (or the word picked me) a word that is so simple I thought it would be on your list for sure!
My word for 2012 is: ‘New’
New – is the word that I picked also. I thought about restore….but there are some things I wish not to have restored….so NEW it was!
My one little word is Balance- with a full time career as part of a hospital administrative team, volunteer director of a free health clinic and completing 14 hours of post grad work in 2012 I have to focus in balance. Balance will mean time for me and my family. Time to spend not only giving but receiving makes balance.
Great word. I thought that my word was going to be Balance… but Grace kept nudging me, so Grace it is. However, for me, achieving a state of grace will come from achieving better balance in my life… reducing the chaos and the frenzy or rather, not reacting to it so that I can be more calm and centred… happy journeying with your word!
