Day In The Life 2013 | April
Tags:Coffee for me.
Breakfast for him.
The pile that needs to be donated. The skirts I can't wait to wear more and more as the weather changes. The high heels I haven't been wearing since my new friend is a bit taller than me.
The toes that need a little TLC and some bright polish.
Morning bath with Barbies.
Breakfast for her.
The ride to school.
The time between meetings.
Lunch from Cafe Yum.
The amazing space that is my back yard. One of my blueberries didn't make it and I need to plant a new one in it's place. The weather here has been insane.
Peonies getting closer to blooming.
At my desk before kids get home.
He's been hoarding homework papers at school so he's playing catch up this week.
Yes.
Seriously.
They had a secret meeting to decide what they want to do this weekend.
He seems to like the new desks too.
Dancing before dinner.
The scene at the end of the day. Laundry piles and dishes to be done. And I'm so very thankful for it all.
APRIL REFLECTIONS
My overall feeling about this project on Tuesday was fun. I just wanted it to be fun and no pressure and not having to try to come up with some cool new way to present it. I just wanted to live it and snap some photos along the way.
That said, it's hard for me not to think about perspective and light and who and what and where and when and how can I shoot this in an interesting way. I'm a creature of habit and this is my lifestyle.
Looking back through these photos today my overall feeling is thanksgiving. This is one of the reasons why I do this - it helps me focus on what's really important and helps me remember where I want to spend my time and energy. It also helps me remember what is real vs. what I manufacture in my head about this and that and the other.
One of the things I'm working on right now is not looking at everything and seeing something that needs to be done or bought or changed. I have a tendency to just continually put things on a mental running list of "what's next" and that seems to be impeding my enjoyment of what's in front of me right now. Finding that balance between need and want and what's realistic. And working on slowing down the lists in my head.
I shared some of my photos on Instagram this time and that kept me motivated throughout the day. I used the hashtag #dayinthelife and I loved seeing so many of you joining in.
All photos were taken with my iPhone 5. All edited with Rad Lab or Pic Tap Go on my phone.

I am going to make a special effort to do one of these ' Day in the Life ' but can't help thinking my life is so boring. No kids at home just animals.Hubby gone all day. Will have to see what I can come up with inside this empty nest.

I'm not saying I'm jinxed, but 2 of the 4 days/months I've done Day in the Life something has broken on my car. Just saying :)

Oh yes Ali. Thank you for sharing. The result of you thinking about all those things (lighting, composition etc) make for magical photos, even when they're not on a layout. Beautiful. And you're right, I think we as women always want to "fix" things or make them prettier or better in some way... Why do we do it too ourselves?!

For what it is worth, l always love how your projects make me stop, think and reflect....
>>>it helps me focus on what’s really important and helps me remember where I want to spend my time and energy. It also helps me remember what is real vs. what I manufacture in my head about this and that and the other.
That's pure wisdom to me....l'm going through a tough time at the moment, and l'm finding that my photography and PL layouts are really quite therapeutic.
as always thanks for sharing in such a authentic way.

A friend has a blueberry farm on the Columbia River and says putting sawdust in the hole when you plant blueberry bushes is key in Oregon... Haven't tried it myself but thought I'd share!

Thanks Liz - I might try that next time. There are three right in a row. They all had fruit last year but the one in the middle definitely looks like it's dead (nothing happening vs. the other two with blooms and beginnings of fruit).

Thank you for your words on your Day In The Life. I haven't done DITL since last year--life has been hard, grueling, struggling for a year now, and we're just finding our way out. When I saw the project was coming up, I thought "Really can't do something extra right now" but reading about how it helps you with your perspective really stopped me (enough to write a comment :)). Maybe it's what I do need right now, and you mentioning keeping it easy helps, too. Thank you for the permission to just be easy breezy.

I find it's really such a great way to get a perspective change :).

Nice. I appreciate your reflections as I was wondering if they were all from the iphone 5. I currently have the 4 and telling myself I don't need to spend $ on the iphone 5, but I am really digging the better camera on the 5! Hoping the 5s comes out, then I can get the 5 cheaper!
Also, I am a reformed type a, list-maker. Trust me, it is hard to change and its constant work to stay present in the moment with little self-chats in the head to adjust. But it is possible. Just have to remind yourself to let go a bit. The wonderful thing is as you adjust you start wondering what all the fuss you made before was about, bcz really nothing is wrong, and nobody notices that you've done anything different!

Hi Ali,
Maybe you have been asked and have answered this question before or maybe I missed it on your blog, but are you doing a "Week in the Life" for 2013 or are you replacing it with your "Day in the Life"? Thank you.

I'm definitely doing it again - September.

Love the points you made about your project this time. I too need to slow down the lists in my head. :) I have to admit that I wasn't really into the day in the life each month at the beginning of the year, but as I've watched it unfold, it's really growing on me. I might incorporate this next year into my Project Life album. Thanks for always sharing your projects and your honesty about where you are in life!
