Project Life® 2016 | Week One

Say hello to Project Life® 2016 | Week One.

You guys will be so proud of me (I'm proud of me) because I actually already have Week Two done and will share it here soon.

Also just a reminder that registration is now open for my Storytelling With Project Life® workshop which begins February 2nd. You can read more details in my blog post here (including a bundling code for a discount when you purchase both the class & the optional class kit) or check out the class in the shop here. Don't forget that we are including a free set of digital cards and stamp (all PNG files) if you register before February 2nd.

Part of the reason for teaching the workshop is to re-ignite my own love for this style of memory keeping. It's working

Here's a look at my Week One:

Week One was part at home, part on the road. To document the story of my adventures at CHA (blog post here), I used a 6 inch x 12 inch insert. The front side features a half-sheet of patterned vellum + a collection of word and phrase stickers.

That back is a full 6 inch x 12 inch page of journaling taken directly from my blog post with a few edits.

For my date card I used a digital "january" png file from my Thicker Months set. Below that I used a rolling date stamp + black Staz On for the actual dates.

The "yes, this" card is from my New Year Journal Card Set

On the first half of this spread I added in a bunch of writing directly on the photos - it's one of the simplest and easiest ways to add a little more of the story directly onto the photos. I'm using my AE Precision Pen for writing on my photos. When I write on the photos I'm generally looking at the shapes or blank space within the photo to use as a home for my words.

I embossed the back of the "E" and added a chipboard phrase.

This "I am thankful for" card is actually on the back of one of the cards I used for my 2016 Title Page. I don't usually work on both the front and the back - but sometimes it works out just right.

The vellum "this is our year" is from Studio Calico's Arendal Kit. The light blue "yes" ticket is from a really cool, still available kit from Studio Calico calledNes Verk (the blue Heart Eyes card is also from that kit). Around it I added word and phrase stickers and chipboard from my Gatherings Story Kit™, the Build Story Kit™, and from a Freckled Fawn chipboard set. The white rubber star is either from a SC or Freckled Fawn kit.

And of course, as I do on most inserts, I added an Avery Index Tab along the side. The "joyful story" stamp is from the Cheer Story Stamp™

The "Good Times" card is from my Love Life Journal Card Set and the grey word/phrase stickers are from the Heart Story Kit™.

I have been reinvigorated as well this year with project life. Especially the weekly documenting format....... I got away from it the last few years but man I really love it. I always seem to come back to it. I think it's because it's just so great for getting all those daily stories out without having to spend so much time making a layout. I like layouts and still do them but include them for the bigger stories or something that really speaks to me. I am thankful everyday for Project Life.

Love this!! I always enjoy seeing your PL spreads, and it inspires me to get in my room and DO something (even if that's just simplifying things-which has been a theme the last few months)!
As it happens, we got a foot of snow here in Western NC two days ago- we usually get maybe an inch or so, if at all). So yesterday I got to get caught up on the WHOLE last year, which was waiting patiently to get done! I have YOU to thank for being able to get that much done (literally, I put photos from each month, journaled, and even embellished, a whole years worth of PL, in one day). Crazy to me. And while I would have rather made time last year, along the way, it just didn't happen. And after being in my craft room, and sorting through some stuff, I just decided to do it and see how far I got, since we are kind of snowed in, lol.
Much to my surprise & SHEER DELIGHT, I got the whole year done!
I thank you because you inspire me to tell the story. Yes there are pictures, and some pretty stuff, but the story is what matters...and I reminded myself of that while working yesterday. Now I have an album that is a super representation of our year...trips taken, celebrations, challenges, everyday stuff & more. And I almost didn't do it, because now that we are in a new year, it just felt too overwhelming to take on a years worth of backlog.
I am SO glad I did it. It's more streamlined than my first PL album, which I admittedly got carried away with, lol. But I have good stuff in there from each month. It's perfect! And now I'm inspired to do an album for this year!
    THANKS ALI!

Officially inspired and motivated here! Determined to do a better job of documenting and keeping up this year and trying to find a groove that works for me. Eager to see more of your project life spreads and ways to use all of the fabulous contents from the story stamps and story kits. Also can't wait for the PL class - sure to provide more inspiration. I was debating boxing up all my scrap stuff & letting it go, since I use Instagram and Collect apps for memory-keeping these days. But I heard you say something about using Project Life as a gratitude practice in your own life (or at least that is what I took away), and I just signed up for your class. I'm giving it one more go...

What I think is amazing is that there are all these people who have done Project Life and quit for one reason or another. But it turns out there are quite a few who are missing it. I was hemming and hawing about your class and just doing it., and I found my old Project Life. I loved looking at it. I remembered how much fun it was to do. There is something about it that people are needing and these little cards and photos and stories seem to be filling a need. Add a star and that's a great life.

Please, keep 'em coming! (also just finished and shelved my 6th DD - earliest I've ever wrapped it up - so thank you for DD's too! One of my favorite projects EVER).

Hi Ali ... Thank you for sharing your PL pages! I am unsure how to document Jan 1-3. I have my opening page and then the 4th-10th spread as you show here. But those 3 days, because they fall into the end of the week I'm not sure where to put them ... any suggestions? Thank you!

Yah Ali! Awesome for you that you finished Week 1 and 2. I'm honestly surprised that I finished one whole spread and two small pages already, including my 2016 title page and a spread about my OLW. So exciting and a great reminder as to why we love this project! Can't wait to see more!

Love the airyness and pops of color from the photos. Your simple style helps remind me that its ok to keep it simple, just get it recorded. Love poached eggs, my boyfriend has become the expert on those. A little vinegar and a swirl of the water helps.
Try one on top of some spaghetti carbonara - to die for.
