Around The Room | Living With Your Photos + Color Inc Giveaway

I'm a huge fan of living with your photos. Out of albums, off your computer and onto your walls.

Over the years I've amassed quite a collection of family images - many of the recent ones being mounted rather than framed as you'll see below (and above). When I first starting hanging up photos I wanted them to be all black frames with white mats. Now I'm really enjoying the variety of both the framed and simply mounted images.

Around our house I've got quite a few gatherings happening on the walls. Some are consistent collections (meaning all mounted or all framed) and others are a mixture of the two.

The first ones I want to talk about line the hall from our entry into the kitchen.

The images are 12x12 photos are "standout mounted" from Color Inc. (Color Inc is a sponsor of my blog and has been generous with samples for me in the past and as you'll see below. This set I purchased on my own. They are excellent quality and have wonderful customer service.) When we moved into this house I ordered eight or nine of these with the intent that they would be grouped together and I love them.

They are mounted onto the wall using Miller Studio Magic Mounts removable mounting tabs. I tried a couple of other brands and these have worked the best.

You might have seen this image a couple weeks ago. This is in our dining area, between the kitchen and living room. This wall has a combination of framed and mounted images. The one of Simon and Anna in the blue shirts is from Persnickety Prints.

Upstairs I've got a few other collections starting. In the room you enter before coming into my office I've got a large standout mount from Color Inc (photo taken by Tracey Clark). That one is 3o inches x 20 inches.

In my office I've included two Ikea frames with 12x12 photos of me and Chris as kids. I enlarged these 1970's photos on my scanner and they were printed at Scrapbookpictures.com. These hung in Anna's room in our last house.

A little collage in Simon's room that includes photos, Star Wars stamps, and a signed photo of Yoda from Frank Oz.

And this one was in Anna's room in our last house. I didn't recreate it here yet, but it was a favorite in the old place.

In our bedroom I'm just beginning to build a photo wall.

The newest addition is a Framed Gallery Wrap Canvas from ColorInc. As one of my sponsors they kindly sent me this new product to review and want me to give one away as well (with your own photo of course).

Here's what they have to say about this new product:

Love the sleek modern style of a Gallery Wrapped Canvas? Now you can add a frame! Our Gallery Wrapped Canvas Frames will give you that same modern and edgy look you've wanted but with a touch of traditional style to give you a unique shadow box feel to add to any home, work, or studio wall space!

These ready to hang Gallery Wrapped Canvases come with a 2 1/8'' deep smooth black laminate frame. With a 1/2'' floating space between your canvas and frame, each of our hand wrapped canvas prints will be permanently attached with the finest attention to detail. Each piece will arrive properly finished with a wire hanger, bumpers and Tyvek® backing. A true first class upgrade to your studio or home!

These Framed Gallery Wrapped Canvases are really, really nice. I didn't realize when I was ordering it that there's a space between the frame and the wrapped canvas but when I opened the package here at home I was really pleasantly surprised. I'd definitely consider ordering another one.

GIVEAWAY | One Framed Gallery Wrapped Canvas (20 x 14 or smaller) from ColorInc.

I entered a photo of my son in a local contest and was a finalist! They have it hanging in City Hall but I will not be able to keep the display when the year is up....so..I would LOVE to mount and frame the picture this way through Color,Inc.!

I have frames placed throughout our house, but I would like to hang more. We've been in our house for eight years and I still have blank walls. I love your ideas, but a big part of using them myself is $$. So, this give-a-way would be a great place to start.

Oh, I do have one wall with three scrapbook frames in which I switch out pages as the seasons change.

I love the way you incorporate photos into your home. I have been trying to do the same thing in my house. I haven't tried any of those mounted photos though. What a great way to add a twist to the photo wall.

I have picked photos from our vacations and purchased collage frames. Each trip has 10 of the best photos from the vacation. However, I love the way you have different sizes and different types of mountings. I love the canvas. This summer I hope to repaint many rooms and this has given me many ideas to redecorate the walls with photos. Thx for the ideas and the chance to win.

I love how you display your photos. I'm always afraid of doing it wrong. I have a few up but nothing like your photo walls. They're wonderful.

I also love living with our photos, and I've created a few small collections in our home. I'm still mainly in the "all black frames with white mats" phase, though seeing your examples of mixing and matching frames and mountings may help me "evolve" a little faster. Thanks for sharing your photo collections!

I don't live with pictures and I am ashamed. I have plans for 2 photo wall galleries, but it is intimidating me....is it the placement? is it all the holes in the wall? is it the color of my frames? Thank you for the inspiration to just DO IT!

Great post, Ali! Loved seeing all your wall collections.

We live with photos in frames on the wall and on the tabletops. With photos in old shoeboxes and portrait envelopes, in albums and scrapbooks. They're also on my memory cards, various websites and usually at the lab waiting for pickup. Our pictures are everywhere - and I love it! : )

Most of my photos live in my computer. When I'm ready to do a project, I'll print what I need. I have very little wall space - lots of windows and doors. My screen saver on my computer, though, is all the photos I've taken the previous month.

I'd love to make room for one of these prints, though! Thanks for the chance to win.

I *used* to be very good at this. Sadly, I haven't updated our walls in awhile, so they are very dated. Your post has inspired me, but it will have to wait until after our move this summer. Thank you for the great ideas!

I love living with my photos! I've got a big gallery wall in our dining room, a collage poster in my son's room and other photos scattered throughout the house. I've been afraid to do too many gallery walls, but I love how you've got several different ones & I think I'll just have to give in. Thanks for the opportunity to win! :)

I am guilty of my pictures mostly living on my computer although I have recently bought prints which are still sitting in the sleeves on my desk just waiting for framing. I have bought two gallery wraps and a single gallery block from ARTSY COUTURE that I absolutely LOVE!! At the moment they are kind of scattered among the house, but you have inspired me to do more with what I have. I really love the stand outs in your first picture!

We only have one photo wall at the moment. It lives in the hall. We have several of my husbands photos hanging, unframed, from an Ikea rail with clips, so we can swap them out for different ones anytime we want.

Like you, I love to be surrounded by photos. I live in an old house with plaster walls and have decided to lots of groupings of frames that are not on the walls. I love this because I can easily rotate my photos from room to room. I also tend to include lots of old photos of my parents and grandparents and great grandparents. I love that my 5 year old knows all about family members that he never had a chance to meet and part of this is through all of these old photos.

Love the walls! In my last place, I had a wall of photos, since we have bought our house, I have yet to find my groove. But my husband did just build me a custom bookshelf in a little nook, and I plan on filling that up with framed photos...different sizes and colors. I also just won a silent auction item at my son's school fundraiser for a wrapped canvas standout, and after looking at your walls...I think I may be hooked! haha! Thanks for the motivation to hang my photos. I completely agree that they should live all around us and not just in books :)

I hired a decorator when we build our house just to help me arrange and select a few pieces for our family room. I was on a TIGHT budget but she was reasonable and I didn't want to purchase furniture only to find out it didn't fit the room. She gave me suggestions for decorating our walls and when I mentioned I wanted a wall of family photos she wasn't encouraging. Boy am I glad I didn't listen to her. Slowly my photo wall is growing and it's the first thing people comment on when they walk into our family room. I love the framed canvas and will definitely have to visit their site to check out all their products. Thanks for sharing Ali!
